KR saying post Norwich that he wants a keeper and a winger. The coaching team are going to discuss Stewart tonight.
That sounds fair if he's talking about before the first game of the season in 10 days time. There's still over a month until the transfer deadline closes, I'm sure we'll pick up a loan player or two in that period, especially as we currently only have 1.
Quite likely that plenty of league one and two clubs are waiting for premier league and championship clubs to decide who they're prepared to loan out
The minimum we need is goalkeeper, left back cover and a striker. I suppose when Robinson talks of a winger he means Stewart and with the loss of Marshall that makes sense. If we don't make credible signings in the next seven days we are taking a risk with the season, and it feels the same as usual not a fresh start after learning from mistakes.
I don't listen to KR interviews any more. I love his passion, enthusiasm and positivity but my goodness he contradicts himself every interview. I actually beleive what he says less than what KM says. I really would not get focussed on how many players he talks about or whom as it changes by the day or week and rarely anything actually comes of it.
But this means player a promising youngster out of position. Not good for his development?
The best way to develop a young player is to play them out of position IMO.
At youth level or friendlies I can see sense in that. At first team level it might be sensible for certain players, like putting a centre back at full back. Other than that surely most players need to play in their best position though where they are most comfortable?
Whoever it was is a genius to decide that on Dijksteel's first appearance at RB in a preseason friendly - famed for being just like a competitive fixture.
With 2 players for each position, I assume we are being left short at full-back because we have 5 CB's. We have the 8 defenders we need, but we have a LB who is always injured and 5 CB's.
I never expected us to sign 2 more FB's, but I wouldn't mind someone who can play both positions, even on a loan until January.
I reckon we need a GK, STR, Winger, attacking midfielder and FB cover, making 5. The FB and Winger can be short term deals to cover injuries, but the other 3 are needed desperately.
New Keeper Dikjsteel, Bauer, Lennon, Barnes Crofts, Jackson New winger, Aribo, KAG Novak
I see the 2 signings KR mentioned meaning those are 22 at the minute, with RCC, Sarr, Watt also at the club. Page and Marshall not considered as out for a few months.
Have to say, look at how weak that second team looks. Still need another attacking midfielder and striker desperately, otherwise we just won't score enough.

I did mean at youth level and friendlies - As a coach I see parents who moan when you are not playing kids in the best positions - I see kids unwilling to try other positions. The ones that develop and improve are the ones open to it every time.
I we'd signed another Right Back it would be a case of "There we go, typical Charlton. Stifling a youngster for some has-been"
Damned if they do...
We have Barnes, Konsa, Regan Charles-Charlie-Charles and Dijksteel that can play there. I doubt many other League one teams have options like that for cover or a full back Whilst they are all relatively untried (except Konsa) ...they are all very good prospects.

exactly, not against us relying on some promising youngsters to cover. It's not as if the first choice RB isn't good enough, even if he is not the same player he was a couple of years ago.
The problem is that they are trying to spend as little money as possible, not saving it for the more important positions.
Anybody that thinks they are going to see four new signings before the season kicks off need to take off the rose tinted spectacles.
Gobinson has been banging on about "four coming in" for weeks now then all of a sudden a couple of youngsters look promising against Norwich and he down grades his requirements to two players needed.
Watch this space for a comment after the Ipswich game with a further down grade to "one player needed as the youth have stepped up to the mark"
Gobby is the perfect mouthpiece for RD and KM, a match made in heaven.

The money can be better spent on striker(s)
PROSPECTS:- The tactical mentality that has us where we are (Konsa excepted as he is proven but is a centre back). It is easy to lose sight of what it takes to be successful once you stick to a certain formula. We are so over reliant on our academy to fill up our squad that it is over done. I have said it before, but in general we overrate our players and that is most evident with our academy products who are ill equipped to be successful in this league. The point in their development that they are thrust into the first team with a handful of others at a similar stage is not what a club with serious ambitions should be attempting. It is set up to fail and fail again.
Money can only be better spent if it is spent wisely and spending on cover for Solly would be wiser if it avoided throwing yet another developing talent into the mix. Too many youngsters that are still unproven is not going to move us on as a club, especially as the moment one proves that he is good enough, RD starts an auction. They don't all make it to the auction stage and those that don't tend to fall short for what we need.

I heard he recently had a tyre puncture but he wasn't off the road for long.......
So who did tell him?

Edit: nope, it was Crawley I was thinking of.
