He wasn't told he can't have a backup to Solly. Read his quote in full- Anfernee's performance told him he doesn't need another fullback

Mavididi is seen as a wide player who can play up front - but he is unproven at this level. There is a ridiculous level of potential but that doesn't guarantee goals. He could be Thierry Henry-esque or he could be Ali Dia

I have just watched the post match with Robinson, at 3.35 or so his comment on signings (regarding right back) was I've just been told you're not bringing..having another one'.
Robinson goes on to say 'd'you know what my answer to that was?'.
I can't remember what he went on to say but his report of such an exchange is telling.
If it is true, as @Swisdon claims that Karl is 'calling the shots', doesn't what he said suggest a slightly different picture? On a raw level it can be seen as Robinson asks Meire for stuff and she says yay or nay to his requests, simple. That Meire would have told him 'no' so soon after her seeing Djiksteel play is also interesting, unless she had also brought Duchatelet into the conversation between the end of the game and the press conference because he had been watching on his feed.
Robinson then describes what he said next as an 'answer'.
So I have bolded two bits, the 'collaborative' aspect of this issue is she tells him and he answers, presumably following Robinson requesting something in the first place.
None of this is unexpected in that no manager gets everything that he asks for, yet it also doesn't feel like Karl is calling the shots either. For example it is reasonable to assume that Karl had midfield in mind for Djiksteel and still wanted a right back, i wonder if he was able to go into the ins and outs of those thoughts with Meire/Duchatelet before he was told.
On the balance of what Robinson thinks is best football wise, and what the regime thinks is best, it does not strike me that Robinson is 100% allowed to call the shots.
Anyway even Karl would've wanted to get the goalkeeper situation settled by now and it hasn't been. Doesn't sound like he is in the position of authority some would like us to believe.6 -

I think Dijksteel is 20 so ought to be in and around the first team now. We have some great young players, Aribo, Konsa, Djiksteel and Fosu -we need to make sure there is as much quality and experience around them as possible.5

He's wanted 2 keepers since May. Rudd was preferred but he chose Preston. Rudd said there are times that the fans can piss players off when they are being told they are not fit to wear the shirt or are just shit in general. No idea of that played a part in his decision or if it was more about money.
David Martin clearly had other options to try out as he didn't go on the second trip to Ireland.
The fact he then came back but has not featured in either of the friendlies tells me there is something not right. Robinson knows all about his ability and presumably all about his salary so I would guess he is either out of our budget and a long negotiation is happening or we are looking elsewhere.

He's no more calling the shots than any of the previous managers. Probably the only difference is they aren't signing players over his head.
It isn't rocket science, the board should give him a budget and let him get on with it, but that's just not happening.15 -

I know this is the time of year when we try to look forward to the season ahead and appreciate there is still a month before the window closes, but this all feels like deja vu.
Yet again we will start the season with significant gaps not having been plugged and I honestly don't think that will change materially by the time the window closes. Different manager but still the same pattern of behaviour in terms of timely execution of deals. If we will continue to depend on the scraps filtering down the food-chain, the past is a good indicator of the likely end result.5 -

No - Karl said he wanted a wide player, Mavididi specifically and KM thought a striker was a more urgent requirement. We all know we want both but then we don't know the budgets.

Of course Rudd chose Preston over us, in the same way he would almost certainly have chosen Preston over Blackburn or Wigan, most players want to play in the highest league and biggest clubs they can manage. This is someone who played several times in the PL in 2015/16
The Martin and Reeves situation is bizarre, both have managed to go all summer without new clubs. I can only assume that they are after more money than clubs have been prepared to offer

LOL - I mean how many goals did he score for us? We rave about his terrific run where he failed with the final but most important part of actually putting the ball in the net. I think goals are what is goingto hold teh team back next year, so it might be worth trying to bring some into the side. Mavididi may be the solution, but it would be a risk! 0 -
