RIP. An excellent film critic and one who wore his learning lightly - unlike many critics today, who habitually include in their reviews a reference to an obscure film or director who their readers won't have heard of just to show how smart they are.

He was never scathing, sarcastic or insulting.....sensible, polite, and reasoned criticism was his hallmark, he came across as a gentleman and in fact that's exactly what he was......a gentleman.
