whats people plans before hand only been the once and last time made the mistake of heading for that shithole the fleur de lis, in the end the ques were so ridiculous i had to behave like one of the locals and buy cans from the shop next door.
were considering heading to dartford for a spot of breakfast blinding little cafe down from the stage door pub then heading to rochester.
Rochester is a good shout, minus one boozer there. The Eagle!
your not gonna be there after a drink are you?
We went on a pub crawl during the summer last year.
My two Charlton mates wanted to go in there, but I refused. Anyway, after me being called all sorts of names I said I would go in there but I would not part with any money. Two rounds later we then went across the road and I got them in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I bet you had a voucher or something for the pub it was your round in.
It's amazing they've been allowed to keep that away stand all these years, it's an accident waiting to happen.
not having a roof is bad enough but that "temporary" stand has been sitting there for 14 years.
Though it was put there in 98? Considerably older than 14.
according to Wikipedia they ripped out the old terracing in 2003. they did demolish their other stand in 98 and took a couple of years to replace it. (medway stand) also at the same time they got rid of some of the away section.
Rochester seems to be the shout which boozer has morning KO in?
The Crown at the Strood end of the high street will have the early kick off, you will see it as you cross the bridge over the Medway out of the right side of the train. It's a couple of minutes from the new Rochester station. The City Wall will also have it, that's closer to the station and is next door to the Eagle. Rochester Bar is between the Crown and the city wall and is massive now, you shouldn't queue for a drink there. For anyone not too bothered about the early kick off the 2 brewers is a shepherd neame pub opposite the city wall and tiny, you'll get a choice of beer in there but the bar staff are pricks and will see it as punishment to serve you as they are used to only having 10 people in there all in their favourite seats.
Also not far from the station you have a sort of trinity of pubs. The Jolly Knight will have the football on and is one of my favourites, it shares toilets with Ye Arrow which is more roomy, has some smoking hot barmaids and a really nice back yard that is overlooked by Rochester castle. Wedged on the side of those 2 is the Kings Head which I personally think is shit, takes ages to get a drink, poxy layout and expensive.
The weatherspoons is down the other end of the high street and well, it's a Wetherspoons you either like them or you don't and I don't.
The Queen Charlotte is about 15 paces down from Weatherspoons if it is open it normally has the football on, it used to have strippers in the cellar bar downstairs for a bit of wet nose but the tosser who owns the Casino nightclub ruined that fun by opening a strip bar of that and doubling the price so no more strippers at the Charlotte. Oliver's bar is almost opposite the Charlotte I doubt that will be open at that time of day, it's one of those bars that looks pretty but the layout is dreadful. Do decent food though apparently.
There are a couple of pubs I've missed off but I've given you a fairly decent and honest locals guide to having a skimish in Rochester high street.
Those that hang about for a bit afterwards could try the micropubs which are very close to the old Rochester station. The flippin frog is my favourite, tiny little place on the elevated section of the bit of road that links Chatham and Rochester high streets. The Northern Seaman is opposite one gay pub and next door to another. All three are decent places to have a drink and a reacharound.
Moving into Chatham you aren't spoiled for choice, The Prince of Wales has always been a shit pub trying everything it can to not be a shit pub, it's ok but a lot of the local shitcunts will be in there, the new weatherspoons opposite that is actually a decent pub. They enforce a strict no tracksuit policy and are trying their hardest to keep the shittier elements of Medway out. If you go outside for a smoke you will get accosted by local celebrity beggar Billy the quid. He is one to avoid and tell to fuck off.
For those really stringing out the day in Medway, The Command House is another place that used to house pound in a pint strippers in the basement and was always a sqauddie pub, it's had some money spent on it and is a lot nicer to look at now. Only been in there a ha drink of times since it's been done up and had decent quality lager and the door had been replaced on the shitter.
Stretching beyond now and heading the long way towards Gillingham towards the dockyard Ship & Trades is a nice place to go now I'm in my 30's however I thought it was full of ponces when it first opened. Says more about me than the establishment which is bloody expensive for a beer is pretty nice and has nice seating areas on the Medway basin where you can take your mind off the price of a pint by looking at the boats resting in the marina. Before being annoyed by the massive shadow cast over what used to be a suntrap by the big tower block that went up.
Me, I'm going to be a few thousand miles away on holiday so the local watering holes will appreciate he income in my absence
Chatham also has a pub a 30 second roll from the stationmeaning you are only 1 stop away from Gillingham. The Alexander. Now this place changes owners more often than I change my underpants.
It will either be good selection of really nice draught beer and lager or they will have one pump working which will poison you. No inbetween with this gaff. You can also pop put for a smoke and view the statue of Thomas Waghorn pointing towards the river which is often adorned with a road cone on his head.
To get a cone up there is a rights of passage for much of Medways youth and I'm proud to say I achieved this is November 1999 before falling off and knocking myself out.

Any tips on where to park please Carter?
In relation to where mate? If it's for Gillingham then park up in one of the town centre car parks and you are a slow 10 minute walk from the ground loads of the street parking is permit holders only near the ground and station. There is a social club the station side of the ground which will let you park for a couple of quid or a School (Woodlands I think) that do matchday parking too
If you mean for Chatham than park in the station or one of the town centre car parks of which you will find plentiful spaces
Thanks mate. Sorry, I meant for the ground so will look at one of your recommendations or the car park at Gillingham station. Cheers mate.
There is a bit of free parking within walking distance of the ground. But you have to get there crazy early. My girlfriends grandparents live on the nearerst road thats not permit holders only and get right royally pissed off by all the football fans parking in their road.

Do you know of a decent offy as I don't like paying pub prices?!

They should do what all good people do who buy a property close to a football ground & then moan afterwards.......put a couple of bins in the road outside, or a plank of wood across a couple of bricks or just stand outside & give dogs abuse to all & sundry that dare to legally park on the highway. It works in Charlton !!!

Wagstaff should have had a straight red in the same incident as Lee Martin. They both committed violent conduct on the same player.
