Charlton for me yesterday - now the winter rainfall's dried out, it's becoming quite a fast course again.

He poodled round in 55 mins with his dad and his grandad, who runs in the 90-94 category!

I don’t think there’s anything that examples Parkrun better than that. The Olympic Triathlon champion jogging round 809th out of 821 with his grandad at Bromley

I had no idea about that. Just saw a pic of him on a connections strava run. As you say, nothing examples park run better than that, or running in general.

Our usual Shorne Woods but with both grandsons plus daughter who completed 1 of 3 laps for her first attempt.  Next was a rush home and 50mins for 4 showers and toast before leaving for The Valley.

At least you were very clean before arriving at the Valley even if 4 showers seems a bit obsessive.

I run 5k nearly every saturday but not as part of a park run, out of interest what drives people to run at a specific time with loads of others? Is it getting a recorded time, for the camaraderie or a pleasant push to get it done or what?

All the above. I just find it hugely uplifting, with a much higher feelgood than running on your own.

Yes, to all of those reasons plus the occasional bacon sandwich afterwards.

More seats than usual near me were occupied so the 4 showers must have worked !

Went for my first run in about 9 months yesterday - have had a stint of post-viral fatigue, seemingly triggered by a jog, after a bout of covid last summer. Have been easing back into activity very gently for a few months but hadn't crossed the psychological barrier of running again until now.

Touch wood seem to have been fine since, and just as I was finishing my very slow 2km I got a booming COME ON YOU ADDIIIIIIIIIICKS from a passing car (was in the yellow mesh shirt). Put a big smile on my face!

Well done mate. Gotta start somewhere and sounds like you smashed it. You’ll be up to 5k in a few weeks 👍

Took the 8 year old to Avery Hill this morning for him to make his 5km debut. Killed it with a 28.11 to come first in age group (not sure how many under 10s run to be fair 🤣)

First Parkrun of the year for me. My 3rd slowest time but with good reason as doing 20 miles tomorrow morning for marathon training 😬

Got back on the London tourism trail with a trip to Osterley parkrun - good run, lovely surroundings. Six more to do (though that number will probably grow before I do them all).

Back at Beckton today. My other half ran her fastest time in over two years and we both ran PB's for the course. A happy day in the sunshine.

    Osterley is a nice one.
I did Ingrebourne Hill today prior to plodding to The Valley.
Whereabouts are you expecting the number to grow?

I went to Hackney Marshes. It's 2/3s on grass and flat, so quite quick at the moment as it's nice and dry. It's really cool seeing all the football matches taking place across its 70ish pitches (plus cricket and rugby).

Very close by - Greenwich Peninsula seems to be making some progress.

Also some talk of one at Mitcham Common.

    Great effort, nicely paced too.

Ingrebourne Hill for me this morning, across the Thames at Rainham.

Nice run, but at least as many tourists as locals with a first-timer (one of the best-known parkrun tourists) giving the first-timers' briefing. Really odd vibe about the place.

Yeah I did it last week and there was a bloke who’s really active in the Lon-done group doing it.
I was embarrassed that I recognised him!
Nice little run though, I did South Norwood today which had annoyingly become my nendy so I had to see it’s dirty name every time I looked at the app.
I was planning to do Charlton today as I’ve not made it there for PR yet but my Waterloo trains were up the spout so had to jog home from the station and break out the pushbike for the nendy…stressful morning….

After finishing between 20:06 and 20:12 four/five times, I finally went under 20 at Bromley yesterday - 19:36 which I still can't believe.

Bromley's winter course has a couple of weeks left if anyone wants to chase a PB. The summer one has too much grass.

PS South Norwood & Ingrebourne are both a bit skanky. They're similar environments and speeds actually.

Been a long time since I did South Norwood, but you're right. At least South Norwood feels a bit closer to civilisation, despite its proximity to a certain football team.
