Saw him when he first came to the UK, he was supporting Nils Lofgren who was rather too busy with bouncing off a trampoline antics whilst playing guitar on stage, and I preferred the Heartbreakers set much more. It's quite a back catalogue. RIP Tom.
I can't believe how moved I feel about Tom's death. I am not usually like this but I must somehow identify with him - I'm similar age and a fan since I was just over 20. I first saw him at The Marquee Club in Wardour Street where he played two nights as a 'Surprise Artist'. I got tickets for the first night and was so wowed by his performance that I got tickets for the second night. I am not sure if I knew anything about him at the time. Strangely, one of the last times I saw him was at The Marquee in Cork, which was a marquee just outside the city. His greatest performance for me was where he played a series of nights at a small venue in Chicago - probably my favourite gig ever. The last time I saw him was at the Royal Albert Hall. I didn't go to the Hyde Park show this year as I hate big venues, particularly outdoor ones. However, I have enough memories to last my lifetime. A great artist, performer - his music will live on. Wildflowers is playing as I type.
