Charlton will have to win promotion if they want to secure Ahmed Kashi to a new contract

Charlton will need to secure promotion to the Championship to retain any hope of securing Ahmed Kashi on a new contract.

The midfielder’s deal is up at the end of this season and the South London Press understands that Addicks hierarchy know that they stand no chance of negotiating a fresh terms if they are still in League One.

Kashi spent 18 months sidelined with an Achilles problem but resumed pre-season training in the summer and has been a first-team regular – forging a strong understanding with Jake Forster-Caskey.

The French-born ballwinner has one cap for Algeria and winning further international recognition is a major goal, made harder while playing in the third tier in England.

Charlton paid a small fee for Kashi in 2015 to snap him up from Metz and he was a strong performer in the opening months of the Championship season before being ruled out due to injury.

Where is this taken from? - Not really surprised.

and the South London Press understands
  • Nothing of surprise in that then!
  • Unsurprising, much much too good for this league
  • Add, mageniss, Holmes, Reeves, Marshall and Bauer to that list. Will be sold for small fees in the summer if we don't go up.
  • Top player who is too good for this league, half expecting him to be bought in January tbh. Promotion is paramount to keep hold of some of our better players.

It will be decent fees, other than Kashi, but would mean yet another rebuilding summer. This summer we kept the core of the team and thus were able to progress gradually rather than having to start again

Last year of contracts, would imagine most would push for a move, with KM negotiating, it won't be decent fees.

Besides, we could sell them for all the money in the world and a nominal amount will be re invested.
  • We just need to make sure we win promotion simples!
  • Best bet is to get promoted and have this bun fight in May

Absolutely no point in us selling him in January as if we did that'd effectively kill off any promotion hopes
  • Yeah, not unfair on his part, he's too good for this league. Could easily play in the Championship, and maybe even in the top tier in France. Not getting promoted would mean we'd probably risk losing Bauer, JFC, Kashi, Holmes, Magennis, Sarr, and Konsa (who we may lose either way).

Just hope Kashi is enjoying his time here, continues his form, and if we do go up, he wants to stay.

best to sign a second competent striker then, PDQ.

  • If he manages to finish the whole year injury free, I wouldn't be surprised if a higher level French club took him on.

Can't see us keeping him. He was too good in the Championship too.

  • I suspect he’ll be off back to France whatever happens. He has a track record there which probably guarantees him a starting birth at the right club. I can’t see a Championship club being particularly interested.

With a bit of Arak and hashi we all get mushy fir Kashi
  • Call me old fashioned, but personally think he's owes us another year after he spent 2 years recovering from injury on the club's money.

He used his salary to pay for his own treatment as the club couldn't or wouldn't diagnose him so sought out a specialist had the treatment and has now rejoined us and looked relatively solid!

Is this fact or speculation ?

Well if that is true then it changes things a bit, but how do you know this?

Whether or not he paid for his own treatment, I think he would have a very good case that there was some not great recovery management or diagnostics from us at various points. Can't say I blame him one bit if he wants to move on.
  • promotion this season is pretty vital for a lot of things involving CAFC .. failure to get up ?..
our best players will be gone ..
anyone with any cash who was genuinely interested in buying the club will probably walk away ..
many fans who have given Ro&Kat the benefit of the doubt this season will revert to alternative Saturday entertainment or restart protests ..
and I for one will not be prepared to undertake another season of many expensive weekends away watching another bunch of imported players probably under another management team go through the trials and tribulations of this division .. one can have just too much of forever rolling along the M62 and other assorted MWays to far away places with strange sounding names to watch 3rd tier stuff
  • I think almost goes without saying, he’d undoubtedly get in to some Ligue 1 sides.

A very good point indeed, though there's little mileage in obligating any player who doesn't want to be here.

Kashi is not nearly as good a player as many Lifers imagine. The bald facts are there in the SLP: we "paid a small fee" for him. Note the 'small'. He has "one cap for Algeria". Note the 'one'. For Algeria. At the age of 28.

He's been out injured for most of the time. Of the few games he has played, I have watched every one at The Valley. Kashi is a very ordinary defensive midfielder in a very lowly division. He receives the ball in a deep position and carries it sideways. He doesn't send killer passes to the striker, and I've never seen him cross the half-way line.

If Kashi wants to go, it doesn't matter. We can do far better.

Do you ever watch the game? And if so where from? "Never seen him cross the half-way line" Totally incorrect.
