Cocktails

We have threads on beer and spirits, but where do you all stand on cocktails?

I work in a cocktail bar up in London, so have a vested interest in this subject, but has anyone got a favourite cocktail, or a cocktail bar that they go to? And if you are reading this and don't like cocktails, what is it that puts you off?

    Vodka Martini, shaken.... Not stirred.

Well they never taste as nice as a pint of Guinness.

A good old G and T is my favourite!

I’d take a decently prepared Long Island Iced Tea over a pint of lager any day. Had one in Crete last year that was phenomenal, lovingly made by a bartender who obviously knew his craft.

Pornstar or French martini are faves of mine

Love a good Margarita. Always set a challenge to the barman when on holiday to make my top 5. Currently in first place, undisputed for 12 years, is the Coral Reef Club, Barbados. Top notch.

Margarita..lots of salt around the rim.of the glass.

Pussers pain killer and you won't get one of those in London.

Rarely drink cocktails but do enjoy the occasional Mojito

Pornstar. If I'm drinking cocktails i will often just go through the menu and not stick to just one.
Sex on the beach is alright, cocktail not bad either.

A good friend of min owns Liquid Chefs the mobile mixologist who make some of th most amazing cocktails, we recently was on the tour with them and Schweppes for their new product 1783 launch I think I fell in love with Gin due to the guys at Liquis Chefs’s and what they managed to do

Very rare for me, last time was 5 years ago, Marbella, cocktail bar on the beach, banana & rum concoction, very nice

    Car bomb
    Flaming zombie
    Long Island iced tea
    Caipriha
Gin and slim with a few slices of cucumber is a cin cin

The caveat to these is that they have to be done right, sugar free mixers need to be used. Unless you are in some cattle market shithole then the sugar is needed to destroy the taste.

A place in Mauritius did head and shoulders the best Caipriha I've ever had, I had the best long Island iced tea in manhatten and for a Flaming zombie that was in a mental little club in soho about 10 years ago

Had a few Long Island Iced Teas over the years in The Long Bar in Raffles Singapore. Very nice drink.

Love a cocktail but can’t beat a proper Pina Coloda when you’re on holiday.

Cocktails should only be served in establishments offering table service. They take far too fudging long otherwise....

Espresso martini for me. At Christmas a good old champagne cocktail goes down a treat too.

Used to love Rumours Cocktail Bar in the 80's.

Whisky Sour - The best ever was in the American Bar in the Savoy thirty years ago. I still think of it now.
Martini - stirred, not shaken. Shaking breaks small crystals of ice into the mix giving it a cloudy appearance as well as diluting the booze.
Negroni - A cocktail for grown - ups.

Some good drinks listed there, negronis and old fashioneds are what I like to call proper bartender drinks.

There are so many great cocktail bars in London nowadays, if anyone is looking for places to go, Dandelyan, Swift, Three Sheets, Mint Gun Club, London Cocktail Club, Calloh Callay, Cocktail Trading Company, Burlock, The Alchemist and Trailer Happiness are all worthy places to check out

Pussers pain killer is a great shout.

Like pretty much any rum cocktail. Other than that:

    Pisco sours

Bloody Mary with plenty of Worcester sauce - the only hangover cure that works for me.
