After 35 overs Leewards Hurricanes 131/6
Kent going well1 -
Good to see Ivan Thomas in the wickets again. Hopefully, with Donald's influence and injury free, he could turn out to be that quickie we so desperately need.3

151-7 (41)
Gidman 3-290 -
LH all out for 1891
-
Kent won by 9 wickets with Zac Crawley ending up on 99 not out.1

Great stuff, lads.
Hoping to take in a few one dayers/ T20 matches this summer. Only managed one last year.1 -
Watched most of it on line - struck me the Sir Viv Richards square was not the easiest to bat freely on.
Most of the Leeward Isles batsmen stuck around into the teens and lost their wicket the moment they tried to attack.
As with the Blake knock the other day Crawleys innings was a mixture of hard graft with moments of real class. Could have been out a few times with a few false shots and was dropped in the 80's. Dickson and DBD also grafted well.
Bit unlucky Crawley did not get his ton. At the start of the over with the side needing 4 to win Crawley could only get a single to take him to 99.
The bowler then bowled two wides and two fast full tosses to Dickson who hit the first back to the bowler and inadvertently hit the second into the leg side and turned down the run only for the ball to run to the boundary leaving Crawley on 99*
I am not sure about the quality or intensity of the opposition but they are getting good time in the middle and appear to be eminently more disciplined and organised than last year. Donald appears to be having a positive impact.
Missed Claydon who had some economical figures but watching the other bowlers they do appear to be bowling to a specifically tailored game plan. Thomas was erratic though did bowl some genuinely quick and a couple of unplayable deliveries.
Thought Gidman looked very ordinary when he started but he gradually got into a rhythm and increasingly caused the batsmen problems. Held a good line and length in his later overs.
Denly too offerred something different and could have had a couple of wickets.

It all seems very early, playing such matches 2 months before the season starts. It would be like Charlton playing pre season friendlies in June!0

It is but pre season training would be going on anyway - just not in such warm climes!killerandflash said:It all seems very early, playing such matches 2 months before the season starts. It would be like Charlton playing pre season friendlies in June!
It's also the opportunity for the players to get to know Donald and for others to stake a claim for the start of the season who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so e.g. Thomas and Crawley.1 -

The early bowling was aimed outside a separate set of stumps outside off stump.
Equally the variable bounce and speed limits stroke play. It has been the same for all four matches.
This wicket looks a bit greener than the others and the young indian left armer (he played for India U19s) bowled with good discipline. Credit Crawley for himself showing good discipline and battling through it but not for getting out to a straight one having finally got himself set.
Denly needs to get his head down and bat through
Although any one hitter may come off it is simply not a wicket for expansive cricket. Anything over 180 should be competitive but I am not sure including 3 spinners ( including Denly) was based on the wicket or simply giving Riley & Qayyam a game.

151-5 with just over 10 overs to go.
Gidman out for 22 and Denly 72 not out0 -
Denly out for 96
201-6 off 462 -
209-8 off 48
Rouse and Riley out0 -
215-9 end of innings
Thank goodness for Denly (96) given the second best was Crawley (27)0 -
Seeing that Denly has been playing in the BBL for the last few weeks, I guess he ought to be more up to speed! Indeed he hardly needs a preseason0
-
On that basis he will be a spent force once he gets back from the Pakistan Premier League!killerandflash said:Seeing that Denly has been playing in the BBL for the last few weeks, I guess he ought to be more up to speed! Indeed he hardly needs a preseason
