  • Not sure if it's true though, but he has reportedly been very ill.
  • SOMEONE'S ALWAYS ON MY TRACKS.......

Go well. A legend and a personal musical hero of mine

Is there anyone posting who he hasn't sacked? RIP
  • The word genius is overused but he was a genius....

...don't think he was destined to live to 100 but what a legacy he has left.
  • Can someone enlighten me?
  • Saw The Fall many times live, Mark E Smith liked my brother-in-laws band & they supported them on a few tours in the late 80s - was always an entertaining evening to say the least. RIP MES...
  • I feared the worst when opening this thread. Absolute gutter, RIP
  • RIP Mark E Smith. Sad sad news.
  • RIP
Couldn't handle the music, but what a character.

  • Amazed he reached 60 - had looked ill for years.
  • RIP, saw The Fall supporting The Damned in ‘86, they put on a good show.
  • The Fall were one of my mate's favourite bands and I went along with him to see them a couple of times.
Considering I'm an Indie fan, I have to admit that I never "really got" Mark E Smith.
The last time I saw them he performed the whole gig with his back to the audience, as a anti-hero stance I believe.
    He was certainly unique.

    RIP Mark E Smith.
  • Not sure how but I totally missed this band.
  • Blimey played Fortress/Deer Park not an hour ago off the new Uncut CD. Saw them in 92 I reckon. loved the Rough Trade run of singles in 81-82

You're not exactly into Indie are you ?
  • This makes me sad. Loved The Fall.

Bloke was a lunatic and legend.

  • Absolutely gutted. I never imagined that MES would live to a ripe old age but I never thought he'd go so soon. I've seen The Fall more than any other band. Read his autobiography a few years back the story about the pub being blown up in the was was real food for thought.

    Last orders, arf past ten!

    RIP MES

Infotainment Scan is probably their most accessible album....then it's all downhill from there (or uphill depending on your perspective).
  • Gutted but not surprised. A band who i've listened to daily for over 35 years and will continue to do so. Let's hope he's keeping John Peel company right now. RIP
  • An on-stage delivery like no-one else. Unsettling, yet amusing, and never dull.
I like to think that he will be having a good old natter with John Peel this evening.
  • Gosh...I didn't read @housty's comment until I'd posted mine.
We used to say 'Jinx' to things like that.
  • Rowche Rumble, what a great song that was.
  • C n C hustle one of my favourites.
  • That's a shocker. RIP.

I've had my moments! I've got a few Indie singles in my collection.
  • Blimey, a true rock maverick. Not everyone's cuppa, unique.
