How did we not score there???1

We're going to be gutted here if they nick an equaliser. We should be well clear.2

Well, great to get 3 points off Palace at home. Looks like it’s going to be another workmanlike season but if we defend and Whitehouse keeps putting in performances like that we’ll be alright. McAteer stood out and was the difference today, look forward to seeing more of her3

And breath!
Great start.
Thought we were much better in the 2nd half.
Well done girls ♥️2 -
Rode our luck a bit there, but Whitehouse was determined not to concede and kept us in it. McAteer, Hutton, Bradley, and Mason all excellent. Well done cafc!4

I thought N’Dow looked very good at the back as well.6

Really solid, resilient performance and a great start to the season by beating that lot.
Sophie Whitehouse picked up where she left off last season by making some really good saves, but only one of them was from a chance where I genuinely thought Palace would score – they opened us up down the left, but not only was Whitehouse equal to the shot, she also kept it from going behind for a corner. Elisha N'Dow was imperious in defence, and Ellie Mason had an assured debut too (once I'd managed to tell her and Jodie Hutton apart – they really do look similar from a distance).
In midfield, I think Mia Ross will take a bit of time to get back to match fitness. She looked a little sluggish at times, and Flannery was a big improvement in the second half, scuttling around like Josh Cullen and giving the defence much better protection. Likewise, Mary McAteer offered more than Karin Muya, and she came so close to scoring when her header came off the underside of the bar. I was slightly less impressed with Lucy Fitzgerald, who spurned a golden opportunity when clean through on goal and looked a bit lightweight at times.
Our goal came from really good pressing from the front, as we won the ball back high and squared it for Emma Bissell to fire home. Bissell and Amalie Thestrup had a bit of a thankless task in the first half as we struggled to create much (the one big chance fell to Hutton on her right foot inside the box and she blazed it over the bar), but both showed encouraging signs of what they have to offer. Gillian Kenney did well when she came on and looks to have a bit of class about her – a good pick-up on early evidence.
Katie Bradley was sent off late on after picking up a second yellow for time wasting, but that shouldn't put a downer on a great day. Karen Hills was proactive in her substitutions, which played their part in us beating a decent side, and the new signings look like they'll improve us as a team. So I think there are lots of reasons to be optimistic that this could be a good season – after all, it's not every day that Charlton beat Palace 🙂
