Interesting that we’ve signed two players this week from teams in Scotland.
Is this a good sign? Whats the standard of women’s football up there?

It’s a sign we aren’t paying good wages. There are bargains to be found of course but it does feel a bit like doing it on the cheap

Wouldn’t have said centre back was a priority but then if Skeels and Mason aren’t anywhere close to coming back then it saves us having to put Newsham or Ross there if we’re short. Lobato has looked good since coming in but Pearse has injury history so an extra body back there makes sense. Still not sure what role Lockwood will play but either way we need a bit more in attack to make our play more fluent

What I've seen of the top division is pretty good, although not WSL1 level. Not sure if it's still the case, but I believe most of the clubs are only part-time.

Today's game postponed because of a frozen pitch.
  • Do they just not turn the under soil heating for the scheduled women's games at stadiums?

Was due to be played at Colchester not Portman Road so would be surprised if Colchester has under soil.

She is left footed and tall so maybe something different.

Elisha N'Dow has been good this season but her knees are strapped up for most games.

Only one WSL2 game is going ahead today (Nottingham Forest v Bristol City). Durham v Sunderland and Newcastle v Birmingham are both off. Southampton beat Portsmouth 4-0 yesterday, and Sheffield United v Crystal Palace is scheduled for tomorrow evening.

Next Sunday for the cup match, London Bridge/Woolwich line closed all day for engineering works and I think Charlton Station closed from what I've seen.
Assuming thats correct, are parking restrictions lifted on a Sunday?
Or do we have to beware like for a  Saturday?

Residents' parking doesn't apply on a Sunday. When I drive to women's games I usually manage to park on Floyd Road.

18 Jan: Swindon Town, home, 2pm. FA Cup round 4. At the Valley. £7 adult, £5 over-65, £2 under-18. Tickets from usual website. Women's ST holders must buy a ticket but get it half price.
    25 Jan:
Newcastle United, home, 2pm. At the Valley. £7 adult, £5 over-65, £2 under-18. Tickets from usual website.
1 Feb: Sheffield United, away, 1pm. At Bramall Lane. £10 adult, £5 concession. Tickets from here.
8 Feb: Nottingham Forest, away, 2pm. At the City Ground. £12 adult, £10 over-66, £7 student or under-18. Tickets from here (not on sale yet).
15 Feb: Durham, home, 12 noon
At the Valley. £7 adult, £5 over-65, £2 under-18. Tickets from usual website.

As usual with Durham there's a mutually-agreed arrangement where both home and away games kick off a couple of hours early, nothing to do with the broadcast deal it's just to let the players get home at a more sensible time afterwards.

I'm going on Sunday. Will be my first Charlton womens games (have been to the lionesses and Arsenal - don't ask).

A mate from Uni is mates with Swindons assistant manager so we are heading down. What stands are open and is there any segregation? I ask because tickets are provided through said Swindon contact.

Was gonna ask about parking but seems that's been answered above.

What players should I be looking out for? What's the story of our season so far? I know we are unbeaten but anything on how we've played/expectations? Any other nuggets of wisdom or tactical insights to make me seen knowledgeable in conversations? 😉

It'll just be the West Stand Lower, and there shouldn't be any segregation, though the away fans tend to congregate towards the south end of the stand.

In terms of how we play, I wouldn't expect us to play free-flowing football or score masses of goals, even though Swindon are two divisions below us - we've only scored more than 2 goals in one game this season, against Watford in the last round of the FA Cup (which is kind of mad given that we're 5 points clear at the top of the league!). But we've always been really solid in defence, and we've only conceded 5 in the league all season, so we should be able to control the game comfortably.

It's kind of hard to think of any absolutely stand-out players for us this season, because it really has been a team effort with everyone playing their part at different times. Charlotte Newsham at right-back and Jodie Hutton at left-back are key players for us both in defence and in attack (though Newsham played on the left in the last few games before Christmas, with Hutton further forward), and I've been impressed with Keira Flannery in the Coventry/Cullen/Dobson role in defensive midfield.

It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts after the game!

Only the west stand is open. There is no segregation but away fans tend to group towards the Jimmy Seed end.

You can add hospitality in the 1905 Lounge for a very reasonable price where you can buy food and drink and get to sit in the Director's box.

Sophie Whitehouse the keeper has been the stand out performer. There will be 2 players signed from Hearts in the squad.

Hutton, Bradley and Newsham the standouts for me. They all have the ability to make something special happen. Hillsball is like sufferball on steroids though. Even against much lower opposition it won’t be exciting

Hutton, Newsham and Whitehouse are the ones who are a cut above the rest. I normally would say Skeels as well but she's injured. The thing about this team is they are absolutely miserable to watch and don't create much at all but they're essentially wizards. They are brilliant defensively and can shut out much better teams and then always seem to be able to score exactly the right number of goals to nick a win. We've only won by more than one goal twice this season. If we keep a clean sheet we only bother with the one goal, if the opposition score at any point we'll get a second before going back to sleep. That's only against good teams though, when we're expected to go on the front foot and beat a terrible team it just won't happen. We've managed to draw against Ipswich, Portsmouth and Sheffield Utd despite them being the axis of god awful while we've beaten all of our closest rivals, including beating Birmingham and Newcastle away. It's not like Charlton are a great counter attacking team either, they'll just randomly score, often off a Hutton set piece of some description. It is in it's own way extremely entertaining, they're basically doing what Nathan Jones is trying to do but at a level where they're topping the league while being actively quite bad with the ball.
We're all hoping a few more signings with a bit of flair or control in midfield might come in this month. It's great though, I haven't seen a Charlton side play in the top division for nearly 20 years and this is the closest we've been since.

Away fans often go for the front part of block F because it's right behind the away dugout so good for kids getting autographs etc. The club steer visitors towards block G but you can move around freely and no-one cares.

There's always at least one bar window open inside the West Lower. We're not part of the experiment with being allowed to take alcohol into the stand which some of the women's clubs have been doing; the rules are the same as for the men's games.

Having watched a few games this season, the side doesn't feel as strong as last season but has an ability to win games. Basically to do what is needed. Defensively they are strong and Hutton is the main player IMO. It would be a surprise if they didn't get promoted especially as there are two automatic spaces and one play off one.

My only problem with the playoff if we end up in that is the current bottom 3 are Liverpool, West Ham and Everton, and even with them having terrible seasons and us being unbeaten for a year, I'd expect all 3 of them to turn us over pretty easily.

They'll turn over anyone tbf. Was in the pub the other day my friend said the standard between WSL.2 and WSL is like getting promoted from League One to the Premier League.

Birmingham have signed Norrköping midfielder Wilma Leidhammar for a reported €315,000 euro fee, breaking both their own and the WSL2 transfer record.

The other promotion-chasing teams really are loading up. Even in our position at the moment, getting promotion is going to be unbelievably tough.

It is. We need to start taking care of the teams towards the bottom and keep our incredible unbeaten run against the top sides going. Hopefully all the financial big-hitters will start taking points off each other. To get promoted from this division on our comparative budget would be unbelievable.

Don't be embarrassed watching the lionesses and the Arsenal first (it is quite common for those sides to be the first experiences of women's football).

I am expecting cup games to be different to the League- no offense but Swindon will be like Watford and Karen will probably play a rotated side to the ones you would see in the WSL (might play the new women to give them game time).

I would say enjoy the day, Cup vibes. The Royal Oak is a cute pub round the corner, Charlton Cafe is a friendly place as well (as far as I know it is non segregated for Women games) if you want a drink, or a bite to eat before. 😊

My friend, that goes to the Women's games, made that comparison on the upbeats walk between Karen Hill and Nathan Jones when I first took an interest in the Women's side.
