Think it’s time that this sinks away from the top of the forum.
Respect the right for people to raise these concerns despite the fact it’s for most of us a nagging irritant that annually accompanies what should be a festival of sporting enjoyment. It’s a bit like someone whispering in your ear the symptoms of gonorrhoea whilst you are on the job.
Despite this, I think everyone has contributed in a respectful way but I can’t see what more can be achieved on this thread and the likelihood is it will just go round in circles.
Entirely agree AFKA. Now, let's talk about rodeos .......
Following the deaths of seven horses at the 2016 Cheltenham Festival, Jenny Hall, Chief Veterinary Officer of the BHA, said: “We will work with Cheltenham to assess all of the incidents that took place this week. We have a good relationship with the RSPCA and World Horse Welfare and, as always, we will work with them to ensure we continue we do all we can to make racing as safe as possible.”
Lessons have not been learned and the evidence of last year (four deaths) and this (six deaths) demonstrates the need for an independent regulatory body.
Animal Aid's petition to government, calling for the establishment of an Independent Regulatory Body to oversee horse racing in Britain has over 90,000 supporters. Another 10,000 supporters will present us with the opportunity to debate the issue in Parliament. The deadline is 13th August.
The racing industry and the Tory government do not want an independent regulatory body. They want the status quo to continue. I invite you to sign the petition and circulate it far and wide. Thank you.

A review into the deaths of horses at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival has warned that welfare issues threaten the future of the sport.
It had been reported that six horses died in the 'festival', in March, but it has been announced that a seventh horse, Melrose Boy, was put down as a result of an injury sustained in the meeting. Three horses died in the final race.
Nick Rust, CEO of the British Horseracing Authority’s said "Parliament has recently sent a clear message to our sport that we must raise our ambitions for welfare further".
Pressure was put on the BHA - and the racing industry - following the success of Animal Aid's petition, which realised a debate, on the issue of injury and death to horses at British racecourses, in Parliament.
The number of deaths on British racecourses remains unacceptably high. 182 horses have died this year.

Erm, I've lost my patience now and won't say anything further. Fuck sake.

We will now gather our evidence and prepare for a debate in Parliament.
