  • He’s not a stupid man but a stupid decision. Knows the possible consequences and still decided to jump behind the wheel. Absolutely irresponsible and unforgivable.

he was driving his Mum, you would have thought she would have said something?

    no you're not
  • no sympathy for drink drivers robbed a school freind of a life the night of his 18th birthday. really selfish behaviour imo

I think they have a good chemistry but they tend to do similar stuff. But most of my family love watching them - I enjoyed their takeaway show for the first few episodes of the first series but then realised it is pretty much the same every week. Same with celebrity, was interesting, now will watch the odd episode only.

I guessing it is his illness and sad with all his fame that he hasn't got somebody to stop him doing something reckless and stupid like drink driving. Like you have said, it kills innocent people!

oh I agree. If someone DD kills another person they should be charged with murder in my opinion.

  • I hope he's prevented from driving for a very, very long time. Idiot.
  • Wayne Rooney caused a drink and driving offence not too long ago.

F*ck sake just get a cab.

No one is above the law. The Rich and famous seem to have an extremely high ratio of drink driving offences. Complete idiot's ...you hear about it all the time.

If Ants mental health problem was so severe then he wouldn't currently be working the Saturday nights. If he just found himself in a really bad place then that's another thing.

You don't cause danger to others though!

Ant and Dec appear to be a good genuine couple of blokes that have done a lot of British television.

Time for them to politely f*ck off now
  • No Sympathy here he could have killed somebody, I hope they throw the book at him. As for the Ant/Dec thing well obviously they have a unique Chemistry but their Saturday Night Takeaway is just them pinching stuff off Morecombe and Wise, Cannon and Ball and The Two Ronnies, nothing much original going on in my opinion.

"F*ck him. Hope he gets fired and never reappears on our TV screens again, etc, etc."

We live in the world of Marmite, More people will support Ant and how he is suffering from the pressure of earning 10 million per annum.
Being a high profile person it come with the territory that it will be front page news and everyone has an opinion.
They win multi awards every year and they are ITV dream team. There is no way they will jettison the Geordie boys.
McPartlin will go In the stocks on one of their shows and be hit with sponges of brown muck by the car victims of his madness.
Ant + Dec may change their name to Dec +Ant but their agent will turn this into a positive by showing that Ant is just a ordinary bloke with weeknesses.
Darron Gibson meantime will leave Sunderland in the summer or before if he gets sacked and only his Mother still loves him.
    That's show business.

or he could just be hiding behind the tears of a clown.

I'm not saying he is, just that being on Saturday night tv smiling away doesn't mean he isn't a complete fucking wreck

The money he has, Ant can afford the best quality.

Agree. Reading recently about Simon Thomas having anxiety and depression while he was presenting Super Sunday's on Sky Sports.

He could have fallen off the wagon - I think his illness mitigates a little, but what if he killed somebody? Maybe we can say he was lucky. It will be interesting how the public react and whether there is a PR exercise to get the public onside. I suspect there will be.
  • Is Ant the pointy- faced one or the chubby cheeked one? I've never paid enough attention to antanddec to work it out.

I dont mind Ant n Dec, middle of the road entertainers on a Saturday night, when they've gone they'll be another act that fills that slot, what I do have an issue with is that they have been called a modern day Morecambe and Wise....I mean...really?

    clever!

Take away his driving license forever... Drink drive problem solved.

Agree, I think they are very good presenters and do Jungle and Britain's got talent very well but they are presenters (a skill none the less) but not all round entertainers like Morecambe and Wise.

    No excuse for drink driving.

I have also wondered this but then I think it might also be a case of it being reported more by the press. Working class bloke from the North East drink driving isn't going to make the front pages.
  • I hope he gets the help he needs and the compassion from the the general public that allows him to recover

We can all pass opinions on what may of happened and how we would feel if he had hurt or killed a friend or family member but he never fortunately for him and as such it’s a case of embarrassment and career harm

It’s irrelevant how much money he has and how this should influence his decision making but in truth addiction doesn’t care for status or stature

  • Drink driving aside, I always thought of Ant and Dec as one of the few TV personalities who are universally accepted, even if not loved. I didn’t think they divided opinion at all.
Trust Charlton Life to disprove that.
  • They are not very hateable if that is a word! But some might be bigger fans than others!

Yes but you only hear about it because they are rich and famous.

Not much point in the Sun reporting that Pete the plumber from Welling was nicked driving home from the William Camden on a tuesday night.

I'm sure the proportion of famous people caught drink driving is less than joe public.
    For balance can I just say that;
Darron Gibson, Wayne Rooney, Ant McPartlin and Pete the Plumber from Welling have all been stupid.
Only one of the above can't afford a taxi to work.

  • Loads of people drink and drive but not when way over the limit. He was lucky not to really hurt someone (including his mum). He has had counselling at the Priory but is still unable to cope with his demons, poor sod. I guess it takes time.
  • People like him are supposed to be setting an example to youngsters.

He needs to be made an example of. If he gets away with it, it sends the wrong message and easily led youngsters will think they can get away with it as well.

  • dickplumb said:

Your not alone, it surprises me how they are so popular
Because the vast majority of the general public are easily manipulated by the media to like whatever is put in front of them, until they are nicked for one thing or another
I agree with my fellow moderator. I sometimes find it amazing how easily people buy into things. I think in Ant & Dec's case they are fairly inoffensive and are a good duo for that saturday night family tv slot, but they have also become, in a sense too big, and are too frequent on out tv screens.

If you don't particularly care for them like I do, it can become quite tedious seeing them everywhere
