If the intetnet shuts down I'll be ok.  Great imagination and decades safely stored in the wank bank...
you'll just have to break out the emergency HARD-copy paper back up!

Now where did I hide them back in the early 90s...
I seem to remember finding lots of grumble mags in hedges back in the day, could that have been one of your preferred storage sites.

Could be worse. You could be on it wondering if it's going to land.

I am just so glad I have retired from IT, I can see this being a nightmare to resolve locally.
  • I wasn’t able to submit a repeat insulin prescription for our holiday. Luckily our GP is a 5 minute walk away so was able to go in and the receptionist put a manual one through. Still have to wait until it shows on my NHS login but We don’t go until next Saturday so should hopefully be sorted by then.

The amount of time I spent on this instead of just slapping it into Google 🤦

    Hideous day, glad it's over.

  • seems similar to the TSB fiasco of a few years back, an update gone totally haywire, except this affects 'the cloud' where all organisations with outsourced data storage held in the cloud can't access their info.
Technology. we take it for granted, then we're hopeless when it fails. Bring back the 'cash society' so at least one can buy some groceries for the weekend, many/most computerised payment systems are down and no real clue when they will be up and running again
I always use cash where possible and will walk out of a cashless establishment if it’s a non-urgent purchase.
  • Last week, the BBC aired a documentary "Why Trains Crash" https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00215yx/why-why-trains-crash  Unsurprisingly, aging signalling problems is a major cause.  It identified (45min 58s to 49min 38s) a possible solution is replacing traditional signalling with an on-train virtual digital system which tracks the position of all trains at all times, and has the potential to increase the capacity of the system by allowing trains to run at optimum speed closer to the ones in front / behind.

Digital signalling is currently being trialled on London's Northern City Line, with the aim of extending the trial to the East Coast Main Line in 2025.  It is all run from a control centre in York.  Financially, there will be strong arguments for going down this route nationwide.

My concern is the chaos - and possible danger - of a glitch in the digital system either accidental (as with yesterday's problem) or malicious.  Anyone on this forum with other thoughts / knowledge?

On the basis you want that business to have increased costs and risk to its employees from theft?

Strange attitude. You may prefer to use cash but boycotting is a different level.

    Don’t go to The Valley.
  • Been in IT on and off for 20+ years…bit of a schoolboy error releasing an update to a “mission critical “ system on a Friday…!
  • I will only shop where chickens and bushels of wheat are still bartered.  What is this ridiculous "paper money" con?

I've been waiting two months for a blood test now. But the doctors surgery keep trying to book me in for a follow up appointment.

"Don't I need my blood test results first?"
    "Yes."
"Well, when can I get a blood test done then?"
    "We still don't know"
    "Thanks."

I mean, it's all gone black and has shrivelled up now ......

Transport for London's (TfL) computer systems have been targeted in an ongoing cyber attack.

I just received this, I work as a Cyber Security Manager. Reading between the lines it looks like they were affected by ransomware or an attempt. The fact they are letting people know seems very much in line with what the ICO would expect with a data breach.
