Shrewsbury wanted this more than us. The look on Paul Hurst's face walking off at the valley was that of a man that would win at all costs. Ajose. We needed a Mendonca, and on reflection got a bit of a donkey. So wanted him to kick on but he just hasn't got it.
Just a step too for me, but Bow and Jacko have come out of this with flying colours and should be given the opportunity to give it a real go. To take a side with a mentalility instilled by the verbal enigma Karl Robinson and get it with a sniff of the championship is some achievemnt.
If anything,I'm glad this has cost Duchatelet a few quid. No more than he deserves.
In terms of blame, both Roland and Robinson are guilty, as Robinson likes a certain type of lightweight, tricky player which has left us vulnerable every time we play a physical team. Today we were bullied, the referee should have punished more Shrewsbury players but, it was clear that he was prepared to allow a more physical contest than the Charlton players could live with.
A word of support for JFC. His set pieces were rubbish, but he never hid, gave 100% in midfield, where he seemed to be covering holes left by other players and was DEVASTATED at the end.
Thought we did ok but just don't have enough scorers in the team. Had the ref did his job in the first half might have been a different story. We need the takeover to happen now and the issues to be addressed.
It could have been very different had the penalty been awarded and their player sent off for the elbow on Bauer.
But ultimately we just weren't quite good enough, no great surprise really, until Bowyer took over we weren't good enough to get into the play offs let alone win them.
I'm just so pleased that the silver haired bloke behind me won his Guinness Record at half time - a much deserved award, if somewhat niche.
''Most negative human on earth'' (who cant decide if it was the players, the ref, the lino or Bowyer who was the reason for our defeat). One candidate one winner. Thank goodness the tear gas put a few tears in my eyes.
Shrewsbury edged it with the necessary nous, off the ball fouls and playing to a weak and ineffective ref. something we should have done second leg to win nasty.7
Trying to play like Barca ain’t going to get you out of this league need to go out kicking throwing elbows and whatever it takes as the ref will let you get away with it
That's more or less what I concluded, although I will elaborate:
We have too many players who look suitable for the French Ligue 2, and would probably get a team promoted into the Ligue 1 (as Kashi did for Metz in 13/14).
We make nice short passes, get the ball forward quickly to the final third, and then slow it down and try to work our way forward slowly from there. One goal will get you a win or a draw. This is Ligue 2 France football.
However, we are in the English Third Division. You are allowed to leave in a sly foot when the ball is gone and trip up your opponent. You are allowed to accidently whack someone's face with your forearm. if Shrewsbury were in Ligue 2 in France they would finish every match with eight men and get relegated to the 'National'. We would probably get promoted.
We need to get tougher. We have too many softees who are expecting Ligue 2 France refereeing. Play the game to the league you are playing in.
The ref bottled the sending off because it was early - he gave a foul so he must have seen it. The penalty was a clear handball - when he missed that I sort of knew that was it. It frustrates me that with the type of players we have, we seem so reluctant to drive into the box. A goalscorer has to be top of the list! Defensively we are there if we can keep the players we have!
Back in February I thought Shrewsbury were possibly the best side I had seen this season. But over these 2 play off games I am less than impressed. In the final third in both games we were not good. But they were average, very good at defending our limited attack, but not much more. The time wasting in the first leg, the number of fouls in both matches just takes away the gloss of their win for me. Lee Bowyer imho was a bit silly to do their team talk for him by saying his players were better than Shrewsbury's but I think Paul Hurst was very smug in both games and of course couldn't wait to ram those comments back in reverse. Not keen on his team and I would not mind playing them again next season to again see which team has the better players.
Amos is a top keeper, would soften the blow if the takeover comes through soon and the first bit of news is that man on a perm contract. Pearce and Bauer were fine cant say much, both full backs ditto. JFC wasn't good today just like last time, burnt out maybe? Konsa was naff, we either need to sell or play him at CB, he's below average elsewhere, Mav crap, KaiKai crap, Ajose made good runs today I thought and looked like our most threatening player in parts but ultimately we didn't have anyway good enough to feed his decent runs. Big Josh was that just Big, knock downs and header wins but ultimately no intelligent plays and no chances, Fosu is Fosu, silky and our number 1 priority next season along with Amos, we really need him and lastly Aribo, I would say our MotM, controlled the ball well, got forward. I will say I was near the front and the goal blocked my view a bit but that's how I saw it.
Lastly the Shrewsbury fans, very scummy and hope they don't go up. Saw some ugly stuff outside the ugly pig on the way home, had like 20 odd pond life surrounding my car and surrounding some young Charlton lads. I wanted to get out and intervene but probably not a good idea as I was with the girlfriend and there was a lot of them about, police were genuinely dreadful. Also don't think I've ever disliked a goalie as much as theirs, I thought Amos took the piss with time wasting but theirs was something else.
If there's any justice they will get thumped at Wembley and we relegate them next season.
Didn't expect to get into the playoffs so it was a bonus being in them.
Don't deserve to be in the final after the 2 legs.
Thought we would give it a right go today but looked like we treated it like any old normal game.
As much as I like bowyer, I can't agree with his post match interview that the players gave it 100% over both legs. No urgency and never looked like scoring.
Will also add that I didn't rate many of their players attacking wise but I would love us to sign Beckles and Nsiala. Rocks and would be some addition to our defense
There’s a sligh touch of crazy gang Wimbledon about this Shrewsbury side. You respect what they’ve achieved with minimal resources, but it’s hard to love them

We're slightly less bad under Bowyer than KR but have no attacking threat. Beaten by a very average but well organised Shrewsbury side.

In the end we didn’t create enough clear chances because we didn’t have the bollocks to do so.
We should have made more of the fouls we took as well. I don’t like it, but it is effective...

Would rather of lost against these then st Wembley personally

Disappointed.
