Messi is a world class club player and a terrible international one. Never thought i'd say that.
His back is fucked from having to carry the rest of the team
Ronaldos back is ok
Yeah he is finally having a good World Cup, before this year he had 3 world cup goals
To be fair; Ronaldo has a Euro Championship title too
How many world cup goals does Messi have despite being surrounded by the likes of Aguero and Higuain?
5 is the answer by the way.
Ronaldo has 7, 4 in this tournament so far!
Messi is certainly more of a team player, but Ronaldo has far more desire at International level.
I like him, I love his silky natural style, but Ronaldo works so much harder to be as good as he is. Messi is treated like a Messi-ah by his managers who make him the focal point of their line ups.
Normally for a world cup I reckon it's between Brazil, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Seeing as Italy aren't even in it, I'm thinking Spain based on what I've seen so far, but none are looking invincible.
If it wasn’t for Lionel Messi then Argentina wouldn’t have even been at this year’s Worlds Cup.
It’s really sad though that we have one of the greatest players of all time on our screens to watch on a weekly basis and many just can’t help but pick faults when things don’t work out or make boring comparisons to another player.

The media taking photos of our tactics earlier is probably one of the most pissed off I’ve been in relation to football news. More than the Yann sale etc. I knew what they’re all about but Southgates really thrown a line to the media and so far it’s been great. Then they do that. Fucking cunts.
Agree - I don’t get our media and the England football team. Their attitude stinks.
Looking back at how they treated managers in the past..... their treatment of Graham Taylor is one of the most despicable treatments of a human being by the media I have seen.
All set up for fake outrage and over assessing of our performance to sell rags. Proper pricks considering the people that report actually like football.
You sound surprised. The football media make me fucking sick - always have done. It's pathetic.
I’ve been naive but the acceptance of the squad to media this year with darts matches etc etc almost lulled me in. More fool me the cunts.
I thought Messi looked low on confidence tonight, possibly for the first time ever - certainly the first time i've seen it - that penalty miss in the last game has definitely affected him. There was about 3 occasions tonight where the Messi we all know would have pulled the trigger outside the box and scored a worldy, but he passed it up each time and either tried an impossible run into a crowded area and lost it or passed it sideways, or got taken out.
He still played some beautiful balls on the break but he just seemed to drop deeper and deeper the longer the game went on and everything just seemed to pass him by.
Just checking the stats, both Messi and Ronaldo have 5 Ballon D'ors each, the most by any player, and 5 runner up spots, with Messi just ahead due to a 3rd place in 2007.
I imagine Ronaldo will be favourite to win again this year, which will put him ahead, something which will really please him!
Pablo Zabaleta; intelligent, articulate and a fantastic grasp of the English language. By far my favourite pundit so far. Then at the other end of the scale you have Prattice Evra, what a knob.

Why do you have to swear so much? It's not big (Lol) and it's certainly not clever.

Biggest realistic story is England defeat. Squad is up against it. I will never understand our media.

If it didn't result in more sales, they wouldn't print that shite, though.
Laughable people are pointing at Messi when things go wrong, he is just one player after all.... The team just wasn't good enough, quite funny they dont do anything with the amount of talent at their disposal, sound familiar?
@Dazzler21 not sure why you were attacking Paulie when he never mentioned Messi, and a couple of other posts, bit unfair.

The problem is, many of the press put a good story before success. I find it disgusting but most other people seem quite understanding. The story about Sterling before the tournament was a disgrace. Fortunately, Panama are bad enough that knowing the team won't be an issue!
As for Argentina - it is unfair to say they are a one man team - it is more accurate to say they have 6 to 7 weaker players.
If Belgium v Tunisia is a draw btw - we would have a chance of putting the Belgians out with a decent victory! Currently, I would say the big teams in danger are - Argentina of course - They really don't need an Iceland victory today, Germany - Sweden knocked out Italy in the play offs and with a fair wind could get a result against the Germans, Portugal - Iran showed against Spain that they have enough about them to give Portugal a tough game. If Ronaldo has a bad game it isn't impossible for Iran to win and that would very likely send the Portugese out.
well tbh he might regret his decision. I'm sure southgate would of picked him especially cos of his palace connection.
will he get another chance to go to the world cup? if he's still playing in 8 years time then probably yes as that's when the stupid decision of expanding the tournament to 48 teams will be but before that he's only got one more shot and I don't know how good Ivory Coast will be compared to other African nations.
You can't blame Messi for last night, the team selection and tactics were awful.
Enzo Perez wasn't even selected in the initial squad, was called up because of injury to Lanzini, he even had to do extra fitness work because he'd been on holiday.........then he gets picked to start the 2nd match when you have Banega in the squad.
He drops Di Maria, and leaves Higuain, Pavon and Dybala on the bench until the 2nd half.
He plays Mascherano in midfield when the guy has been playing centre back for about the last 5-6 years.

Let's be honest, neither are Tony Watt.
Even more so tonight.

Blame the fuckwits that buy those rags.

- Apologies @paulie8290 had some early drinks following some bad news then sat in a strop watching the game last night...
