I doff my hat to Steve Gallen or whoever scouted bringing in Krystian Bielek. The guy is not a league 1 player
I thought he was one of our worst players today and managed to redeem himself with the goal
His efforts against Peterborough and Fleetwood certainly confirm your comments though and imagine this was just an off day for him
I thought he looked better once he dropped to CB but the game largely passed him by in the first half. Some of that was down to the way the game was played, a lot of direct balls into channels bypassing the midfield. But it was a great goal and there is no doubting his skill.
I also think as Cullen gets used to the system and as we tweak it to better suit his ability, he's going to be an excellent signing as well.
No idea what happened at the end there. Was in the Southend end and assuming Fosu stamped on Kightly to cause the initial scuffle, Southend keeper quite clearly threw a punch and deserved to be sent off. Overall a relatively even game but buzzing with the 3 points
Well I suppose that was one of those games that so often happens against Southend United that had it all.
It should even have had at least two penalties to Charlton after Page in the first half, Ajose and his shirt pulled in the second, and what looked like one on Fosu where he was booked for diving.
I don't yet know if Fosu went off for two yellows or a straight red in that fracas at the end. Lapslie as a true Addick went over to get involved and stand up for his mates, I think foolishly, and I swear I saw him chinned by somebody (was it their keeper?) Lapslie got booked anyway for being a silly boy, and of course two Southend players get sent off in the big referee finale sequence.
He was a big referee too, seemed to be good and absolutely terrible by turn, the Naby Sarr of referees, weird decisions and behaviour all over the pitch from him. I know why they awarded the referee this game, it was to make him feel svelt when set against the Southend physio and that Southend groundsman working the pitch at half time.
We got better in stages after the first 15 minutes or so. perhaps all that fannying around at the back was to draw Southend's sting, but I kept thinking about Wimbledon away at the end of last season when Bowyer had them doing the same, and we of course paid the price.
On the specific goals, great work from Grant setting up Taylor, and a very nice contribution from Belik with his. The Southend instant response after we took the lead was down to a tangle involving Page and one of theirs, nobody knowing if and what the ref would do, our formation being unhinged, and pressure on the left side of the goal meant the ball went through a lot of people for their bloke to finish.
It could have gone either way, but we dug in, and although I thought Southend were always dangerous, we might have had better players individually and that factor saw us through.
Three juicy point through. A first step in making up for our bad start. However the mouthwatering glimpse of Fosu means losing him again is a real drag, however the five minutes from Igor was better than his twenty five minutes last week. Jason Pearce coming back is a massive improvement, but of course we now have to fret about Bauer.
In terms of individual players, well there would need to be a marked and obvious improvement if and when Steer plays to dislodge Phillips because he is at the least a competent keeper at this level. Solly played the feisty old pro defensive bit, Bauer good until injured, Pearce got booked doing a reducer on their Tom bloke, but it worked and their bloke eventually got subbed. Page was a danger in the first half and played well throughout. Belik had to play two different positions, and he scored too, did very well and a contender this week, Cullen was different to Aribo, unfamiliar with it all, but he grew into the game as Charlton grew into the match, took very good set pieces. Ajose was Marshallesque in his contribution, I'll leave that there. Pratley was subbed for a lovely cameo from Lapslie, but he had been booked and was tiring, but he made a positive contribution.
Taylor scored and Grant set him up, so no particular complaints there, Southend were not in an 'after you Jeeves' mode so both the strikers had an in and out kind of afternoon, but both kept at it and I was pleased with them personally.
Got to be pleased with three league away points, and even though Irritating turned the Southend commentary on and off a lot, however it was quite clear that our very good travelling support was in fine voice, so well done you guys.

Am I the only one who found the Southend commentators to be some of the best this season? I thought they were generally knowledgeable and pleasant. Obviously they were biased, but I didn't find them to be over the top and they gave the referee credit even after he sent off two of their players, and they also had a chuckle at Demitrou not getting sent off.
Admittedly they couldn't seem to pronounce any of our players' names correctly, but I liked the way they said "Fozu."
Just realized it may be the first time some of you have heard commentators on iFollow as it's our first away game on iFollow I believe. I can understand how it's jarring having biased commentators all of a sudden.

Fosu was keeping it in the corner to kill time. He went down. Kightly kicked him trying to get the ball. Fosu got up angry. Turned round to square up to Kightly. As he turned round his forehead met Kightly's who fell pretending he'd been head butt. From where I was Fosu didn't lean in to him,but can see why the ref sent them both off.

See the video above. Knightly booted him. He got up and thumped Knightly. Keeper came steaming in and shoved Lapslie hard enough to warrant a red card. All three straight reds were the right decision. Well done ref.
Hate to say but I dont know what Fosu does to earn a red card there... Pathetic from Kightly to go down as though shot after the cowardly little kick from him!!
Should get the longer ban than Fosu and Oxley for starting it thats for sure

Oxley deserves a long ban, running over to deliberately be involved and then throwing a punch.

Keeper didnt shove Lapslie, he punched him, I saw it as clear as anything

Looks to me the Sarfend player that kicked it off (no pun intended) was trying to deliberately attempt to injure that might be taken into account when the FA look at the tape.No excuse for the retaliation but that would make me want to lash out if some fucker was trying to end my career possibly. News I heard was that the Sarfend players were told at halftime that Sarfend Rock had doubled in price and that's how they pay their bonuses.
Watched on I follow on my I pad on my sunbed in Vilamoura My wife has accused me of being a total embarrassment as I literally went loopy in front of some bemused people by the hotel pool for the winner Well played lads

Charlton win
Palace lose
West ham lose
Come on millwall make it perfect.

Time to start practising a jab and move technique I think though
Bowyer said it was a headbutt.
