TBH Fosu being banned for 3 games may be good thing. We were worried about him being rushed back and breaking down again, well now he’ll have another few weeks to really strengthen and come back raring to go. And we have Jamie Ward to cover
Cullen - class Bielik - different level Lapslie - class Front 3 of Grant, Ajose and Taylor - class Phillips - assured under the ball, growing into the shirt Fans - superb
Flashes of brilliance from Fosu when he came on and Vetokele looked lively.
What is the full lyrics to this, can't make out the middle part properly!
Lee Bowyer had a dream to build a football team he had no money,so had to get them on loan he built from the back Lyle Taylor in attack we're Charlton Athletic we're on our way back, do,do,do

Much better performance and just about deserved the win although some getting carried away.
Everyone contributed and put in a decent performance, certainly hope Bauer isn't badly injury although Bielik is immense wherever he plays. Cullen dead balls a real bonus, best we have had for quite a long while so suspect we will get more goals from these in future. However glad Bowyer spotted Solly was outnumbered on numerous occasions as Cullen was getting sucked inside. he brought on the energetic Lapslie and this considerably helped. Never quite sure why Karlan isn't appreciated more. It was his pace running the channels causing them problems all afternoon and created the first goal.
Watched on I follow on my I pad on my sunbed in Vilamoura My wife has accused me of being a total embarrassment as I literally went loopy in front of some bemused people by the hotel pool for the winner Well played lads

Literally came on to say this it's like you read my mind!
Really good away win that. I was at the opposite end of the stand to where the melee took place but I saw in real time that dick of a keeper swing for Lapslie. Rest of it I couldn’t make out.
Phillips was calm and came for pretty much every cross. Didn’t really have much to do.
Whilst if he is scoring goals we can’t complain too much, I do wish Lyle Taylor would challenge for the ball more rather than wait for a freekick every time.
Definitely far more dangerous when Fosu came on. His first touch is immaculate and we’ve really missed someone running at defenders with good close control.
Igor I think we are all desperately hoping he finds some form.
Defence when fully fit is one of the strongest in the league imo. We don’t give that many opportunities away but then make one big mistake.
The ref, for another week, was an absolute twunt. Did anyone else think we got away with one on that Pratley challenge where he basically flykicked the Southend player behind the knees.
Done every away game so far this season, with atmospheres like that I’ll keep on going.
An unforgettable away day, that's for sure, and our 1st of the season.
The match was played at speed with thrills & spills galore....the majority of the latter ignored by the Man in the Middle if committed by a player in a blue shirt...but what's new this term ?
My overall memory of the afternoon will be one of an exciting game which we shaded by virtue of 2 good finishes & some resolute defending at the other end.
I thought all our lads had decent games, including Ajose who often gets a deal of criticism whilst our new Josh, our loan Gunner & our latest Captain (nearly) Fantastic excelled.
Bow & JJ have definitely instilled a fighting ethic in this squad ( of the right kind) & it's heartening to see players determined not to be muscled off the ball. This is no lightweight squad, that's for sure and what a difference it makes.
So, a very decent performance all round witnessed by a very vocal following that did us proud. Non stop singing and chanting, which it seems the lads fully appreciated. The noise when our 2 goals were scored was unbelievable ! It reminded me of that generated in the Olympic Stadium ( spit!) when Mo Farah won his last race there in the 2017 World Champs. At that time, our grandson couldn't believe the intensity of it which meant he couldn't hear his own contribution....it really is a weird feeling but one I hope to be experiencing again & again.
Finally, a couple of things others may not have mentioned.
The singing of " Charlton's no 1" to our Dillon - something he may not have heard before, bless him.
Lewis Page clearly limping off at the final whistle - a worry but maybe due to cramp following a full on 90+ minutes ?
And SCP. Part of me was surprised that he didn't receive some kind of "tribute" from our end but then again, it probably wasn't the appropriate time or place. Noticed that he & JJ had a hug & few words before kick off as expected. Felt slightly sorry for him at the end of the match in that the support we gave our team & Bow today is something he used to enjoy.....
When a rousing chorus of "We want Roland out !" emanated from the faithful, I wondered whether this Legend might have quietly joined in on the touchline.
I wasn't too far away, kightley booted Fosu, Fosu jumped up to confront him but this caused the clash of heads. I don't think Fosu meant to butt him.
From the replays i've seen it looks like Kightly made a complete meal of it, i don't think Fosu was trying to headbutt him. Their keeper was off his head though, no need for that.
Sorry, their goalkeeper physically punches George and is lucky he’s not on a gbh charge! If Powell tries to back that up like the ‘gent’ he’s supposed to be then we are deluded in calling him SCP
Good win and a lot of positives to take out of the game it seems. Can’t be 100% certain but looked like Fosu deserved his red to me, but not as much as the keeper.
Still not convinced by Phillips that’s 3 goals I think he should have stopped. Not writing him off but think Steer is worth a game.

Great 3 points nevertheless!
Powell made the statement about being surprised Oxley was sent off 20 mins after the game, so can't have seen the video.
Oxley should get a long ban for that punch. Like you say, could've been up for gbh if he'd made full contact.

He said he's watched it back and is surprised he's sent off
"But, having reviewed the incident, Powell was shocked the Shrimpers shot-stopper was dismissed.
“The ref said Mark grabbed their player round the throat,” said Powell.
“He does push him but as we all saw there must have been between 10 and 15 players pushing each other at that moment so to be honest I’m quite surprised he sent Mark off.”
Oxley will now serve a three match suspension while Kightly will also be sidelined after clashing with Fosu in the far corner of the pitch.
“I’ve seen it again and I’ve spoken to the referee who said Michael Kightly kicked the player on the ground,” said Powell.
“I’ve seen it and I think he does a bit of both to be honest" "
Please don't make excuses for the man, gentleman or not he's seen the footage again and still claims he's "surprised" his player got sent off

Maybe Powell should have done an Arsene Wenger ..... and said that he didn't see the incident nor seen the video yet.
That would have been diplomacy. But then, he was playing to the Southend audience.
Glad we came back there as a draw would have started to look like relegation form. We've still not properly beaten a team though. Both our wins have been squeaked 2-1 wins with late winners, and we can't keep surviving by the seat our our collective red pants. Still, that end to the game was hilarious and I can only hope we were trying 35 yarders just to see if the left back in goal knew what he was doing. Good to see Igor back but I would have liked him on a bit earlier.
we've still not been properly beaten either, Sunderland away, Peterborough at home, late goals winning it for them, 2 teams aiming for promotion.
I personally think that under the circumstances, Bowyer and Jackson are doing great, making us hard to beat.
My worry is, that an underperfoming club could have their attention drawn to Bowyer and be tempted by the fact that they wouldn't have to pay compensation.

Half watched on iFollow, half listened to the Valley Pass commentary.
After a slowish start I thought we were the better side first half but continued the familiar theme of appearing to dominate but failing to cut open any clear chances.
Second half we got the goal we deserved but then poor goalkeeping cost us our lead. Not all his fault and I really want to see Dillon do well, but that’s 2 very preventable goals he’s failed to save this season. Needs to do better to justify his continued selection.
After they scored I feared the worst but we rallied and Fosu made a real difference with his pace and ability to go past players and break the lines. So disappointing to finally get him back only to lose him straight away, but I can kind of forgive him because it showed some steel and a refusal to be bullied.
An important win that stops an average start to the season from turning into a poor one. Given the injuries and extended wait to get transfers done, to be in touch with the top six at the end of August... well... it’s a lot better than I had mentally prepared myself for, let’s put it that way.
To add to the Charlton connections at Southend, I hadn't realised that Damian Matthew was Powell's assistant. Quite strange to see him without Alex Dyer
I hope all the miserable gits on here are actually reading this thread. before the match there was so much I'm not going... blah blah... shit football... blah blah... shit ground...blah blah.... moan moan. Well let's get this right at 5pm there was not a better place in the world to be; we were there, Charlton were the greatest team in the world with the greatest fans in the world. Let's keep the moaning to the right place. Great club. But still "we want Roland out" to get back to where we belong
What a day !! Great atmosphere.....great fans.....great win !!
we started slowly in both the 1st & 2nd halves, but grew into the game & finished the stronger. Overall I think we deserved the win - had a goal disallowed (marginal offside) and could have had apen w hen Ajose was pulled back but I agree with the ref that Fosu dived & deserved his booking (cut it out lad - you're too good for that)........I wonder if gets a 4 match ban for picking up a yellow as well as a red card...lol.
I thought Beliek had another great game (no idea what a previous poster was on about) and his goal just capped it all off. Cullen also played well - some great passing & linked up the play well too. Front 3 all put in a shift but once again I just wished that Taylor would concentrate more on getting the ball than trying to draw a foul. Shame Fosu is going to miss a couple of games (assuming the checkout cup counts as one) as he made a difference when he came on. Felt Sarr was unlucky to get dropped but Pearce did play well although his booking was needless. Rather than blaming Phillips for their goal I think the blame lies more with our players switching off when Southend got on with the game after a dubious free kick & caught us napping. But can't complain after grabbing 3 much needed points.
Golfir Jnr almost lost his voice with all the singing & put today just behind Pompey last season as the best away game he's been too for atmosphere & excitement. Only problem now is that he wants us to go to Luton at the end of the month, but it co-incides with the Ryder Cup & I'm now very conflicted. Ho hum....
