Regarding Israel if you criticise the State of Israel it doesn't make you anti-semitic. If I wanted to run a recruitment campaign for ISIS and hezbollah then Israel's doing a great job in the Gaza Strip.
I've listened to politicians on the extremes of both sides of the Arab-Israeli dispute and it doesn't seem there will be a solution any time soon.
But holding it to different standards to other countries in the region is. Which is the point.
If Israel does something bad then I'm not sure why it shouldn't be criticised? There seems to be a narrative amongst some that you can't criticise Israel because its neighbours may do stuff that's even worse.
Maybe all the faults in the Arab-Israeli conflict are only on one side? As far as I can see thete are problems on both sides and work needs to be done.
No, never said you can't criticise Israel. Try again.
Never said all the faults in the Arab-Israeli conflict are only one side either. I think you need to look at Corbyn et al for that chanting slogans about the obliteration of Israel at the Labour Party conference or Corbyn being happy to meet his friends in various terrorist groups such as Hamas and Black September but refusing to even shake the hands of Israeli Socialist MPs.
Funny how a Saudi dissident being murdered by his state security services becomes a thread about Jeremy Corbyn chanting slogans about the obliteration of Israel. I know which of those two things really happened.

We should wait until all the evidence comes out before we condemn anything or antagonise another power.
Ooop, sorry was reading from Corbyn's notes after the skripal poisoning.

Yes, so do I. "From the river to the sea". Remember that?

It's almost as if the only country in the middle east Corbyn et al are concerned about is the only democracy and the one which isn't openly homophobic. All the other misogynist, homophobic and terrorist or terrorist supporting states are OK because they are "anti-western". But what can you expect from a "friend" of terrorists happy to go on Iran TV (and take their money) with terrorists and holocaust deniers, lay wreaths at terrorist graves and make Muslim Brotherhood signs.
IS this the same country that Theresa May sells weapons to?
Iran? Not sure to be honest. Or do you mean Russia, another country that Corbyn was happy to take money from the state TV company.
Sorry, completely forgot that Corbyn was PM for a second.

I'm not to here to argue about Corbyn or his supporters or be an apologist for them. I've simply made the point that Israel shouldn't see itself as above criticism and is part of the problem as well as the solution in the Middle East. If parties on both sides of the divide won't negotiate then nothing will move forward.
Israel doesn't have great relations with its neighbours - its possible that there are issues on both sides. I can't see an easy solution but surely there are ways of not escalating conflict and disenchantment. If someone criticises some of Israel's actions it doesn't mean they are an apologist for Hamas, Isis etc.

I fully understand there is antipathy towards Israel from a lot of its neighbours and that this has been going on since Israel was created. Israel hasn't always helped itself by some of its actions which have helped provoke the situation.
There is a huge variety of opinions within Israel but it sometimes feels the hawks within the government want to provoke their neighbours. The worse the relations are between Israel and the Arab world the more likely an escalation of conflict.

Thankfully, no Corbyn isn't PM and hopefully he never will. Strange that this is now a debating point. Isn't he the great peacemaker, the greatest PM in waiting ever, the vanguard of the new socialist dawn that awaits or maybe he is a demi-god who must never be criticised.
The Arab states refuse to even accept Israel's right to exist. How much more provoking the problem can they do? There was a two state solution set out in 1947 by the UN which Israel accepted by the Arab League didn't. The Arab League vowed to "drive the Jews into the Sea" The same sea Labour party conference attendees chanted about while waving Palestinian flags.
If Corbyn wants to deescalate that maybe he could speak to both sides. That is the excuse given when he speaks to terrorist "he speaks to them to make peace" ha ha. So let him go to Israel and broker a peace with both sides. Only he won't even shake hands with them.
I find it amazing how anyone can have a pop at Corbyn for his views but is then happy to turn a blind eye to our actual PM, Theresa May, doing business with them and keeping very quiet on the Kashoggi situation, all because they hate Corbybn. Ridiculous.

I'm not really here to discuss Corbyn - I think you've made your dislike of him clear!
I'm not here either to argue about the Arab League as I was just trying to make the point that Israel doesn't help itself sometimes in the way it behaves towards its neighbours. If I had hostile neighbours I wouldn't try and provoke them.
There are issues on both sides - if Israel or its supporters think there is no blame on their side and that they couldn't have done things differently then that's up to them.
Irrelevant of who is at fault something needs to be done to improve relations - if both sides won't negotiate we can stay as we are.
Uk government will do nothing. They are happy to continue selling the Saudi government the ability to bomb Yemeni civilians, so doubt this will make much difference.
I find it amazing how anyone can have a pop at Corbyn for his views but is then happy to turn a blind eye to our actual PM, Theresa May, doing business with them and keeping very quiet on the Kashoggi situation, all because they hate Corbybn. Ridiculous.
straw man if i've ever seen it.
Everyone on this thread is condemning the kashoggi situation and saudi arabia. The point is what saudi arabia is doing and other arab nations is arguably worse than the government of israel is doing.
The original point was that you are anti semitic if you hold israel to a different standard than anyone else.

Yes, so do I. "From the river to the sea". Remember that?
I was unaware Corbyn had been chanting that. I'm really surprised that didn't make more of the news given there is just a little bit of bias in the press.

Clearly it was chanted. Clearly it's anti-Semitic. You've said that he was doing it. I don't believe he was, because there are dozens of media outlets waiting for a chance to have a pop at him on this very issue and if he had they would have. I think there's a difference between being present and not challenging something and participating in it. Labour's focus on Palestine is out of all proportion, but in part that has been because different wings of the Labour party have chosen it as a battleground, in a way that they wouldn't over say, Western-enabled Saudi atrocities in Yemen.
And even as Trump spins on behalf of his Saudi pals, there is no way Kashoggi wasn't murdered by the Saudi state apparatus. In no way do I think Turkey are entirely neutral (and there's a bit of stretch for one of the most hostile places for journalists in the world, Turkey, to be taking the moral high ground), but I don't think they are making it up and are probably pretty incensed it has happened in their country.
I have no doubts that Kashoggi was murdered in the Saudi embassy. I don't think anyone really does do they.
So Corbyn was there, but he didn't join in but he didn't challenge it despite being the "most anti-racist person ever" and you yourself accepting it is anti-Semitic?
A chant about a Palestinian state stretching from the river Jordan to the Mediterranean sea, ie all the land that now makes up the state of Israel. So the chant, happily repeated while waving a Palestinian flag at the Labour Conference at a mainstream meeting is calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.
So even if we give Jeremy a pass on this one what about the hall full of Labour party members, no, hall full of Labour party representatives chanting an anti-Semitic chant? At their conference? In public?

Do I?
Well, you haven't respond to the "river to the sea" chants comments so by your own logic you are turning a blind eye. Isn't that how it works?
Hadn't seen them. I'm going back to the football threads anyway.
I find it amazing how anyone can have a pop at Corbyn for his views but is then happy to turn a blind eye to our actual PM, Theresa May, doing business with them and keeping very quiet on the Kashoggi situation, all because they hate Corbybn. Ridiculous.

Ok, Turing you back on them rather than a blind eye. Same difference though.
Genuinely hadn't seen it, so no, not the same thing.

Ooop, sorry was reading from Corbyn's notes after the skripal poisoning.
Trouble is Hamas, many other Arab states nd some of the Corbyn left don't think Isreal should even exist so hard for them to negotiate.
the point is corbyn and his supporters go off their rocker on israel, but are much more muted on the crimes performed by other countries in the region. Can't be because of the ethnicity that makes up most of israel, can it?
I fully understand there is antipathy towards Israel from a lot of its neighbours and that this has been going on since Israel was created. Israel hasn't always helped itself by some of its actions which have helped provoke the situation.
There is a huge variety of opinions within Israel but it sometimes feels the hawks within the government want to provoke their neighbours. The worse the relations are between Israel and the Arab world the more likely an escalation of conflict.
Everyone on this thread is condemning the kashoggi situation and saudi arabia. The point is what saudi arabia is doing and other arab nations is arguably worse than the government of israel is doing.
The original point was that you are anti semitic if you hold israel to a different standard than anyone else.

In public?
Q: Did they say if Khashoggi is alive or dead?
Pompeo: “I don’t want to talk about any of the facts; they didn’t want to, either"
Q: Did you tell the Saudis of repercussions if they are found responsible for harming Khashoggi?
Pompeo: “We talked about the importance of completing the investigation.”
Q: What if it finds the Saudis were involved?
Pompeo: “We talked about the importance of the investigation."
Pompeo: "They promised accountability for each of those persons that they determined as a result of their investigation deserves accountability.”
Q: Even if it’s a member of the royal family?
Pompeo: “They made no exceptions to whom they would hold accountable."
