  • Fingers crossed he’s alright.
  • bear with this story .. BT has a 'Savage Show' at midday Saturday .. today, Hoddle and the usual suspects were taking part in a 'fun' quiz .. the penalty for not answering a question was to cuddle or at least hold a giant lizard, a live one, or a python brought into the studio by a 'reptile expert' .. (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP) ..
Hoddle got a question wrong and absolutely freaked out at the prospect of holding a giant lizard, about the size of (say) a medium sized cat or dog .. and I mean he FREAKED .. this can have done his blood pressure no good at all .. get well soon Glenn

FFS. Unfucking believable if thats true :(

Responding well apparently. Fingers crossed that continues
  • Specialist treatment dont sound good though

    Heart attack perhaps?
  • I wish him well.
Adored him as a player. Maybe the best English midfielder ever.

Along with Gascoigne, best in my lifetime. I went to a few Tottenham games in the early 80s, when Charlton were away, to watch Hoddle.
  • From what I've been told tonight, he had a massive heart attack and was kept alive by BT staff. Been in theatre to have three stents inserted and is currently in intensive care.
  • That's what I heard too @JohnBoyUK

Get well soon Glenn. You're too young for this.

Of course Glenn's younger brother Carl died very young 10 years ago. Let's hope it's not one of those hereditary conditions that are so hard to diagnose. Along with Keegan, Brooking and Bryan Robson he made up my four football heroes.
    Speedy recovery Hodd.

I didn’t know Carl had died. I’m sure he sold me a car once many years ago.

This is why first aid should be taught in schools and workplaces - it should be compulsory. It can save lives.

I imagine sports studios are well equipped and trained medically, as the people working there will be used to this.

No, didnt mean that at all. Nothing would surprise me these days. What a way for it to happen.
  • Will always remember Glenn Hoddle taking a corner in front of the Covered End in 85, FA Cup Replay, loads of trouble before during and after, he was showered with coins and picked a few up, tucked them in his socks and winked at us....seems a lifetime ago, great player, his goal at Watford and the volley V Forest stand out from my youth.
  • Confirmed as a heart attack, but I think we already knew that

Just another example of the 'media' going for the shock effect .. Harry Redknapp did a runner as far away as possible from the animals .. Robbie Savage for whom the programme is named, to his 'credit', took hold of the lizard, as apprehensive as he (Savage)looked .. what the lizard thought about being held by Savage is not known.
without being flippant, Hoddle looked in trouble after the fiasco, red faced, breathless and shocked .. I thought at the time, 'he's not putting this on'

I hope he's ok, one of my biggest fears is to die at work and one of the best midfielders England has ever produced should not leave the earth like that

    Get well soon Mr Hoddle

Thankfully it WAS at work or the thread would likely have gone in a different direction.

Yeah I agree, I hope he's on the mend soon

Yes mate, exactly. What happens when it’s you or me at work?

Good to hear he’s doing well.
Cracking player. Remember these two goals in particular:

  • That's great news, onwards and upwards Mr Hoddle

That second one is sublime, never seen it before (did people not know how to defend before the 1990’s?) - thanks so much for sharing.

When I looked at this thread, these two moments sprang immediately to mind.
I searched “hoddle volley”on you tube, and they were, I think, the first and third videos there.
I remember them because I quite liked Forest back then (I was 8 and thought Brian Clough was amazing) and remember seeing the one against Shilton thinking bloody hell, that was good. Im pretty sure the Man U one was the same season, because I’m sure I remember pundits arguing over which was better. I even remember them pointing out that the Forest one never touched the floor from the spurs goalie to the net.

Hoddle made quite an impression on a young lordromford that year. I could easily have slipped into supporting Spurs, but Clough and his European miracles prevailed for a couple more years until my old man pointed out the error of my ways and turned me to Charlton!
    Thanks dad! :anguished:
  • Think the first one was on a Sunday and the first “live” game as ITV and BBC started to show a few a season from that point and our very own Colin Walsh might have played (possibly a sub) but my senile brain might be making that up .
  • And this one as well. Lyle Tayloresque
