Big league matches you've seen. (Not Charlton.)

Palace v Burnley 1979. Palace got promoted and I had a great day. Obviously before our animus.

I was there. Only one cheering Burnley on in the Palace end. (Quietly).

    Left before the end.

Still their biggest crowd for a home game.
  • Arsenal 4. Man Utd 5
    Sat before Munich air crash

    Cup Spurs 13. Crewe 2.
    Replay on Wed night 1960
  • Not league games but in 1989 was in the Swindon and Blackburn ends at selhurst as Palace came back in the second legs from 0-1 and 1-3 first leg defeats fffs in the play offs .
Also went to white hart lane courtesy of a freebie from bookies and was in a box when , i think , Arsenal won the league with a point at Spurs during their invinvcible season and Spurs equalised late on but the celebrations were bizarre from Spurs fans , oh great a draw and your rivals have won the league at your ground during a record breaking season , weirdos
  • Liverpool 4 - 3 Newcastle - quite an entertaining game

    I went to this one.

I attended Roger Manwood school and virtually everybody at the school interested in football was going.

People should know that the reason for the big attendance was that Burnley brought 45K.
  • Tottenham v Everton around March '85.

Everton won 1-0 to virtually seal the title to stop Tottenham winning it.
  • Seen Hamburg v Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin v Hannover.

Off to Turin this weekend for Torino v Parma.
  • Barnet v Crewe 1991. Barnet's first ever game in the football league. 7-4 to Crewe. You can't get much bigger than that! (In terms of goals)
  • 7-6 Charlton Huddersfield beats it though.

Did you enjoy it? Bit before my time

Fat Stan, with Fry as manager

I wonder if a ticket tout would be allowed to own a football club nowadays.

Me, @GlassHalfFull and @Er_Be_Ab_Pl_Wo_Wo_Ch went to that too. We went in the away end, crazy match!
  • Few seasons back when Leicester won the league, went to Spurs against Man Utd with my uncle who is a Spurs supporter. They beat them 3-0, enjoyed it to be honest.
  • I went to a Rangers vs Celtic game at Ibrox in about 2009, Bougherra and ZZ both played but I can’t remember the score...
  • Chelski v Boro -Relegation play off game that followed 'The Battle of the Bridge'
Was with a few non supporting Chelski mates.Never known such an intimidating atmosphere.Kicked off big time at final whistle as Chelski were relegated.Happy days
  • Early 80's went to see Palace V Arsenal....supported the Arse for the day with my mate who supported Arsenal....who won 1-0.

I went to that one as well. A tad hostile.
  • I went to Chelsea vs Spurs in 1970 - Martin Chivers played very well in Spurs 2-0 win - as a mate was a Spurs fan and Charlton were away. Over 60k in Stamford Bridge that day.

  • Only ever been to 1 professional game that didn’t include Charlton.

    April 2010
    Peterborough 2-3 Newcastle
  • Only non Charlton games I've been too have been Welling games - Once got asked by someone from scouts (yes I was one) if I wanted to go to a Palace game one day, put the phone down on him
  • It was a cup game rather than league - Olympiakos v AEK Athens - late 90s. I was doing work in Athens for Intralot on their new football fixed odds business and I was a guest of the owner of Intralot and Olympiakos, Sokratis Kokkalis.

I was so glad to be with the owner which gave us some protection, but the experience was unreal - I've never seen anything like it at a football match before or since. As we drove away from the stadium (with a police escort) the area around the stadium was like a war zone!
  • I went to the Emirates to see Arsenal v Man Utd last December.

United won 3-1, Pogba got sent off. Was one of the best PL games of the 17/18 season.

Great fun sitting in the Arsenal end while they are losing.
  • Can I have a cup game? Watford v Liverpool FA cup 1/4 final replay, 1986.

Terrible refereeing display from Roger Milford (nothing new there). Denied Watford a clear pen (although Barnes scored from the free kick anyway), and Ian Rush dived for the equalising penalty that took the game to extra time. Rush scored the winner late in extra time.

I wasn’t at that one but that was just after our 1-1 draw there pushed them into the play-offs. The Mayor of Middlesbrough got beaten up - no surprise, given the lack of segregation in the stands.

Dad took me to that. For a long time I couldn't figure out why we went to that game, but today I get to say "I saw Chelsea get relegated" so I guess he was right to get us tickets.

Also got to see my one and only football riot that day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elEnkcp6RcE
  • England v Poland in 1973. We were right in line with Norman Hunter’s mistake on the touchline. You could have heard a pin drop on the tube on the way home.

I also saw all the Euro 96 games at Wembley. Some cracking games after the dull opener against the Swiss.
