Charlton v Accrington - Player Marks

  • Phillips - 8 At least two crucial saves. Charlton's number one

Solly - 7 Normal consistent performance and good captaincy to ensure no change of mind by the officials by 'protecting' the lino after the penalty decision

Bauer - 7 Solid throughout and unceremoniously removed a couple of Accrington thugs from the pack kicking him on the ground

Sarr - 8.5 Looks a cut above sometimes. Loved it when the gloves were ceremoniously removed as he strode over to take a long throw only to actually only throw a few yards to Solly.

Purrington - 7 Largely untroubled and looks reasonable at the level at first sight for me.

Bielik - 7 Did the bread and butter work that he does well.

Pratley - 7 Big improvement on last week.

Cullen - 7 Played a if he had never been away.

Williams - 7.5 Constant threat coming forward. Hope he can stay fit.

Taylor - 7 Very quiet first half by his standards. Instrumental in the second half though. We will miss him. As I said on the post match views losing him for 3 or more matches will be season defining and not in a good way.

Grant - 8 Worked hard and once he started running at their defence late in the first half you could see the anxiety creep in. Extra 0.5 for converting the penalty in trying circumstances.

Reeves - 8 Not a fan but the job of a sub is to make an impact and he certainly did that yesterday

Ref - 6 Difficult match with Accrington's shenanigans but he should have booked a few more of them earlier
  • Phillips - 8 big saves, great shot stopper
    Solly - 7.5 Solly
Bauer - 7.5 showed passion and calmness
Sarr - 7.5 hilarious moment with the gloves, love Naby
    Purrington - 7.5 solid
Bielik - 7.5 off the ball work was great, hopefully his balls still work
Pratley - 7 solid but change was needed
Cullen - 8 on the ball a lot, great to have him back
Williams - 8 so much talent and passion
Taylor - 8 ignore the wrong decision to be sent off, caused them so many problems
Grant - 8.5 that took bottle, big moment
Reeves - 8.5 changed the game when he was introduced, great to have him back

    Ref - 2 weak
  • Great to see the much maligned Sarr and Reeves get such good reviews, long may it continue.
  • Phillips - 8.5 Great game
    Solly - 7 Steady
Bauer - 8 very solid, commanding
Sarr - 8 first-choice now. Loved the wind up throw
Purrington - 6 a little shaky but need to allow him to settle in
    Bielik - 8.5 a real battler
Pratley - 7 not a fan but thought he played ok
Cullen - 7.5 good come back
    Williams - 7.5 exciting player
Taylor - 6.5 missed a clear chances and passes and then sent off so a below par for brilliant Lyle
Grant - 8 bottle with that pen. I thought the delay would make him miss
Reeves - 9 MOTM brilliant from the moment he came on. Competition for places in the midfield has made him up his game.
Ref - 4 allowed game to get out of hand. Should have booked all of the AS players fronting the linesman
  • Phillips - 8- two good saves. kept us in the game.
Solly - 6 passing poor particularly in the first half.
    Bauer - 7
Sarr - 7 the long cross balls very poor, but defending excellent.
    Purrington -6
    Bielik - 6
    Pratley -6
    Cullen -7
    Williams -6
    Taylor - 7
    Grant -7
    Reeves -7

  • Phillips - 7.5 Very good throughout, and two excellent saves
Solly - 7 Decent game from Sols
    Bauer - 7 Did OK
Sarr - 6.5 Some long passes missed their mark, but generally defended well
Purrington - 5.5 Not the best home debut - offered little in attack (although nearly scored with his header) and defended averagely
    Bielik - 7.5 Involved throughout
Pratley - 6 Didn't really need him but he tried his best
Cullen - 7 Good return if a bit rusty at times
Williams - 6.5 Good on the ball but went missing for stretches
Taylor - 5.5 Was having a poor game (by his standards) even before the sending off
Grant - 6 Pace troubled them and good turn and shot but little other service
Reeves - 7.5 Very positive contribution when he came on, and always looking to attack
Ref - 4 Fairly weak throughout, and seemed to take the option of trying not to upset anyone by not giving anything; the lino had other ideas though!

Phillips - 8 One great save and a tip over.
    Solly - 6.5
    Bauer - 7
Sarr - 7.5 So involved. Immense smother prevented a goal.
    Purrington - 7 very tidy.
    Bielik - 7.5 class
    Pratley - 7 everywhere
Cullen - 7 very good for not match fit.
    Williams - 7.5 Busy bee.
Taylor - 7 Clearly irritate the opponents. Never a red.
Grant - 7.5 Plus 1.5 for a sublime penalty under real pressure.
Reeves - 8 Absolutely brilliant today
Ref - 4 Lost control. Sent the wrong players off.

Just wondering what the lol was for @Siv_in_Norfolk ?
  • Phillips - 7.5 not a great deal to deal but two world class saves when cold!
Solly - 7 normal Solly game. Had a difficult one as had to deal with their physicality but hats off for protecting the Lino.
Bauer - 7 solid at the back.
Sarr - 7.5 from the sublime to the ridiculous. This guy is brilliant. Loved his fist pump at the end.
Purrington - 6.5 struggled some times. Can’t cross but will get better.
Bielik - 7 composed in the middle. Hope his bollocks are alright.
Pratley - 6 don’t think we needed him in a game like this. Defensive minded playe
Cullen - 8 oh how we’ve missed him. Just controls the tempo of the game so well.
Williams - 8 superb in the middle. We need promotion so badly otherwise he won’t be ours next season.
Taylor - 6 not his best game. Not sure what he done to get sent off... just looked like he was on the floor getting stamped on.
Grant - 7.5 again, not his best game but to step up right at the death and put that penalty away takes balls
Reeves - 8 completely changed the game and the sub was made at the right time.
Ref - 2 an extra point for listening to the Lino. Completely lost control of the game. The Stanley lot we’re making sure they left a leg in at every challenge from the first minute.

The most satisfying thing about this win is we kept going. We kept playing football whereas they wanted a fight. We let our football win the game.... and then once the game was won, we had a fight. Brilliant to watch.

  • Phillips - 8 crucial save in the first half. If he could just improve his distribution with his feet, he'd have an even stronger case to keep Maxwell out of the side.
Solly - 7 Mr Reliable. Know exactly what you're going to get, and nice to have him back on the right again. Particularly good on the overlap in the second half.
Bauer - 7 Solid performance. Good at spotting danger early and keeping attackers with their back to goal.
Sarr - 7.5 Also solid and spotted danger well. Good going forward and tried to create width from the back.
Purrington - 7.5 A fairly average first half, where he didn't always get in the right position. Much better second half and got forward well. Nice to have a proper left back in the side again.
Bielik - 8 Such an important player for us and hoovers up a lot in front of the back 4. Will be a quality player in a couple of years and takes a lot of pressure off, despite the odd mistake.
Pratley - 7 Much improved from his last home performance against Sunderland. Solid and reliable.
Cullen - 7.5 Slipped back into the team well and will only get better once he is back up-to-speed and fully match fit.
Williams - 7.5 Always looking to go forward and very comfortable on the ball. Endeared himself to the crowd with a determined performance.
Taylor - 5 One of his poorer games for us. Always a class player but guilty of showboating at times, rather than playing the simple ball. I love the player, but he does also need to start improve his first half performances, rather than only really imposing himself in the second half once he's got the measure of the opposition.
Grant - 6 Very calm to slot away the penalty. Was slightly wasteful prior to that but his pace always caused Accrington trouble.
Reeves - 8 Came on and made a difference. Always comfortable on the ball and looked to switch the play and find space wherever he could
Ref - 4 He never had control of the game. We all knew before the game that Accrington were going to try and get away with niggly challenges throughout, and the ref failed to assert his authority early on to show that such tackles wouldn't be tolerated. I am certain he was just guessing when deciding who to send off after the brawl.
