    Two and eight is an old dice gambling term, a game much like craps which was played sine the 13th C in England. A right 2 and 8 is not rymhing slang it is to with being an idiot gambler.

    Like so much rhyming slang, things have changed over the years, as this thread has pointed out quite well I think.

    As such, 2 & 8 to me & mine was always rhyming slang for 'state'.
