  • Curious what verified 15 goal per season player we supposedly have lined up to take his place? Btw- that’s a rhetorical question.🤪

It's football, and Chuks wants to play in the Championship plus strikers in the Championship earn more money.
As said we don't have the leverage to keep our best players or attract guys who can get contracts in the higher division.

Apologies for being sober and not calling Bowyer and Aneke all the names under the sun. AUN is given leeway when not on duty !

The irony is if Chuks had played more minutes we would have been in the play offs at least and may have emulated our Sunderland exploits of the last couple of decades.
Or if he hadn’t hit the woodwork 7 times......four times more than any other player in League 1.
It does seem a shame that we didn't use him for more minutes now.
But if we had, maybe it would have broken him completely and we'd have gone without him for much longer even as a sub. No real point playing the "what if" game.
Football is tailor made for hindsight management and what ifs.

  • Well I'm disappointed because I don't see us getting a better replacement. Hope I'm proved wrong.

Get that Jephcott signed up then I guess.

Who was that player who hit the bar 1.75 times 🤷‍♂️

  • This hot take from an EFL pundit is a bold one. Chuks Aneke or Paul Smyth…
I take it that Gabriel hasn't seen much of Smyth then....

Really ?  Totally unreliable player- chronic lack of fitness let us down hugely in the championship - he arrived overweight, couldn’t cope with the intensity of our training or play and then barely played until after lock down.  Scored a lot of goals as sub last season - imagine if he’d been able to play 90% of the minutes .  If we have any money at all, we can replace him with better .

Short at right wing back apparently.

    Is that Smyth’s CV
  • Lol why would Chuks join Birimingham is Lee is such an awful manager and lost the dressing room?
  • "losing the dressing room is a cliché"

If you have a squad of 25 players at every match, 14 of your squad won't be starting.
(I'm shit hot when it comes to maths !)

Injuries mean some players won't be available for selection and a few under 21's will make the bench.

When Jonny Williams was criticized it would have resonated in the dressing room but most players who get on the field will be content especially if they start.

Professional footballers have to be selfish as so many of their peer group in academies are/were struggling for contracts from part time or full time clubs.

I know and aware of many Players who are playing part time now after being released from academies. They have bags of talent and some will still make it. Baah (bad memories for Cafc !) Released by Palace, played for Kinetic foundation who helped him get his transfer to Rochdale and he has now signed for Watford.

Chuks Aneke will be a great free transfer signing for the Brum even if it is for 45 minutes from the bench. Never been keen on Birmingham but I wish Chuks good health.

i was told and did post at the time LB left that chucks was the only player to send LB a good luck message - if thats true it does suggest he had lost the dressing room and that there is no surprise in this move
  • I suspect LB had his favourites and you were either in or out. His favourites would be the grafters in the team, such as Pearce and Prats, and he had no time for less robust players or those he saw as not giving 100% all game every game, even if more skilful.
Chuks scored enough goals to get himself a free pass with LB, so was in rather than out.
I'm sure a good number of pilloried players were very happy to see the back of LB and the total change of management style under NA was very welcome.
  • Somebody said that Chuks was unhappy at Williams' treatment after the Shrewsbury game but others made it clear he wasn't one of the dissenting voices coming from the dressing room. I certainly recall clarifying what I had heard was nothing to do with Chuks and I think others did too. So if some people think it proves Bowyer didn't lose the dressing room, that is not correct.

Chuks actually was one of the few players to wish Bowyer well when he left so any bad feeling, if there was any was clearly sorted between them. Some people are more chilled about things than others and often the term losing the dressing room doesn't apply to every single member of it.

i was told chucks stepped up to defend williams but also told he wished LB well when he left so maybe patched it up
  • I wonder how many minutes he'll manage for them in 2 years?
More than he will for us the next 2 years.
    Only just...

Unless he's on minimum wage and helps out in the canteen, 45 minutes play in three years is terrible value for money

  • I know it's early days but I'm really starting to get concerned about next season. Aneke wasn't brilliant but when he played he was a threat and scored goals. Our recruitment team have a challenge on their hands, not just cos of Aneke leaving but because our squad looks pretty average at the moment, so they need to be able to muster a side that can challenge near the top of league 1.

Still, it's not even July yet.

Big club, what I always wanted, glad its finally over the line, blah blah blah, judging by these statements he was never going to sign, why piss about with these people, they will only stay if no better offers come along, said it before clear them out now,"this is our final offer" take it or piss off, especially Matthews who only signed as a last resort last season when no one else came in.
Because I don’t really think it works like that, it’s far more nuanced with lots of moving parts.

    - What sort of deal are you asking them to sign? What’s the salary and term?
    - What if they all fall for your hardman approach and sign and, then, on the 1st of July a ton of better players become available but we’ve already done our budget by forcing players to make early decisions?
You have a very valid point, but look at the time we have lost waiting for decisions from these players.Amos is still dithering,do we wait until he makes up his mind before we try to fill this most important of positions, there wont be too many top keepers around at our level.
We start our friendlies in 2 weeks,so far one player has been signed, several let go,and a few more with contracts ending,if we are seriously going to challenge this year, the majority of the squad needs to be settled in long before the season starts.
We haven't lost any time. Our recruitment guys will have been speaking to others whilst these chaps pondered.  Who's to say we didn't pull Amos contract forcing him to Wigan because we are about to announce Mcscotty boy from Pompey.  These things are not black and white

Of course its not black and white, the ordinary punter like me can only guess or surmise what goes on in these situations. But my point is,we will still have a restricted budget, and cant really offer incoming players a deal until the outgoings are confirmed,as we dont know what sort of money we could offer.also, any prospective signings that are any good, will be in demand and will not hang around while our out of contracts make up their mind.

How do you know we have a "restricted budget", are you part of the recruitment team?
We have a budget whatever that budget is.
All clubs have a budget and our recruitment team will work within it.
I am sure that this season they will put together a squad that will be fighting for autos/play-offs.

There are gaps in the squad that will clearly be filled whether that be well or badly. We can't know one way or the other until we see who fills them.

It was a statement from a player. I'll take the player's view over any fan.

Also Birmingham are in the championship and could offer both championship wages and experience.

I fucking wouldn't, have you not heard Ashley Cole?!
  • I am disappointed to see him go......particularly as I thought we did right by him and tolerated his shortcomings.

I felt physically sick at £60k a week.

Possibly the most ill advised AND taken out of context bit of any autobiography ever.
