Breathless. The club spirit is immense. Bowyer is immense. What a result.
Pearce was immense.
Really impressed with Gallagher in his cameo. I rate Albie as well. They both changed the midfield. J-F-C was well off the pace. Sarr was horrible. Dillon looked composed in goal. I rate him as well. Pratley was a steadying influence. I like Lockyer.
As I said on the thread... People need to start believing in this Group of players... Yes we've a small budget, yes our players are up from League One but as they showed today, they bloody well make up for it with damned guts and effort - Every single player in a Charlton shirt should hold their heads high tonight, yes there were mistakes from a couple of players (I'm going to try and leave names off when picking faults this season) but that was bound to happen, they've gone from playing in a slower league to one where its just a little bit faster at times but they'll learn as the season goes on and will no doubt be valuable assets at times whilst it'll be others who'll fuck up!!
The positives showed and at times we really hurt Blackburn on the counter, could easily have won 3-1 but for a nice stop from the Goalkeeper to deny Forster-Caskey (scoreline probably would have taken the piss a bit too much) but we cant be too greedy with second place can we...
Tom Lockyer and Anfernee Dijksteel both had great games, the latter certainly showing why you've the likes of Middlesbrough and Bristol City after them whilst you had Jason Pearce and Darren Pratley showing exactly why they're in the team with their valued experience - Conor Gallagher whilst not getting much time to shine showed glimmers of another gem that Bowyer / Gallen have unearthed
Sign some other names this week and our season could get very interesting
This league is a Division like most split in two; Blackburn are a team who'll be in our half of the table, Stoke may be not... As I said in the Match Preview though, when your newly promoted its about getting points (and a win) on the table as soon as possible before doubt and confidence start to creep into play, well we've done that so lets bounce on to the next one!!
Hands up, humble pie for me, fully expected Blackburn, had them in my last man standing at work to take comfort in watching us be poor.
Our defense was very good, only thing we lacked was a bit of height but they were very organised, we actually looked better with a 4 I thought and I think Bowyer might stick with it now. Lockyer had a very good debut imo, we simply can't let Dijksteel go, he's so good, you can tell he just keeps getting better and better as well. Pearcey was influential, great performance from him, everyone else did their bit too, fair play to Phillips again, another calamity at the back and he bounced back with confidence (obviously it was less his fault this time)
We really are a s**thouse side. Great game management by the lads, Blackburn commentators were fuming
That was fantastic.... so easily could have been 3 at the end, Morgan's close control is terrific, Gallagher looks like a top-quality player and this will give the potential loanees really believe it'll be a decent season, also the crowd for next week will get a boost after this ...
Didn't see the game but FFS what is Williams doing in the box defending a corner. He should be lurking towards the halfway line, taking a guy out of the mix to cover him.
Get in ... watched on VP and this was a result built on a solid performance by the midfield and defence. Pearce was immense and lead by example. Blackburn hardly had a sniff and if it wasn't for the freak own goal, it would have been a perfect performance. From memory, we had six very good opportunities to score and we took two. The young lad from Chelsea fitted in nicely and was unlucky not to score and Albie 'he's one of our own' Morgan set up JFC with a sublime pass.
If we can get in the five players that Bowyer wants and if we can stay injury free, based upon this performance, we could just maybe have a half decent season ... Maybe
There was a good video made by Mundial and Ladbrokes that was tweeted on the OS.
Bold quote by one distinguished fan saying anything is possible. Far too early but whatever we in may lack in ability, experience or depth what we do have is grit.
Still need more players and just maybe this win will encourage a few more clubs to allow their players to join us.
I'll be slated for daring to say anything negative about the demi God Sarr but I'm still not convinced. Pearce and Lockyer please Lee.
Taylor's contract needs to be sorted. We need his goals and don't need any uncertainty from a key player.
They dominated us for most of the game but they didn't have many (if any) clear cut chances and their goal was an unfortunate OG.
Whilst we didn't have as much possession, we had a few good chances (Taylor just after our first, JFC 1-on-1, etc.) and the build up to Purrington's goal was excellent. They had more possession but we were more threatening with the little we had which is promising.
All in all I'd say we deserved that win.
Defensively excellent. Purrington showed again what a player he is and that he is more than just a 'Mr Consistent' or a '7/10 each week'. Pearce, Lockyer and Dijksteel looked more than comfortable against Championship opposition.
Bowyer is a class above, gutsy performance, midfield worked their nuts off after a dodgy first 25 mins. New Chelsea lad had about 5 touches but all looked quality. Pearce was immense.
Enjoy this win but anyone who gets ahead of themselves is deluded. Smashing start from a very hard working group. I hope that Morgan doesn't go out on loan and can learn in house from the bench. Good for Conor to get a feel of a victory straight away and the sheer hard work that will be needed every week. Pleased for the away fans.
Another 37 points and we're safe! Trust in LB. Yes we will have reversals but we will surprise a few teams as Lee has instilled a mentality of never say die.
Wow not going to lie didn't see that coming after half hour. Fantastic gutsy performance, reminded me of when Curbs was in charge when we would go away somewhere and grind out a result against all odds. Defence was very good and worked their socks off, especially Pearce. Midfield struggled as we all expected them too. Desperately need 4/5 more players. We were poor for the first half hour of the 1st and 2nd half. We wont get away with that week in week out.
Didn't think much of Blackburn, for all their possession they didn't create very much, I know we can't go on about the past but if we had last seasons midfield I think we would have won comfortably.
Well done to Bowyer and the boys cracking start to the season, now to bring in those players to strengthen us.

Don’t tell him charlton life, lets all just enjoy the moment eh..
This team honestly, they're fantastic and just don't know when they're beaten or when to give up. Massive result. Well done all and the fans who managed to go, huge well done too because it was loud and clear. So happy now. We really are going to surprise teams and the management team we have as well now, it has got to be right up there with the best we have had for a long time, Powell's time was unreal, and so is this. I know it's a long way to go yet, but you can just see the togetherness, the spirit and it's going to win us a lot of points this season.
Dijksteel, Lockyer, Pearce, Purrington, Williams, Taylor, all very good. Morgan and Gallagher off the bench helped us so much too, the latter looks a good player. We need to of course learn to play the ball quicker at times and up the tempo, but with a few more additions, we could do quite alright.
Kicked the season off with a bang, and it feels so good.

Prediction was 1-1 Lyle with a clever flick changed that!
Really good signs...
Surprised and impressed
SofaScore app glitched out... END THE SEASON NOW!
well done boys! Can’t wait to get back to The Valley next week

Fuck off to the Roland!

And he knows it.
He was doing really well second half of last season at left sided CB in a back 4.
And that built his self belief to Beckensarr proportions.
But left CB is Pearcey's position - and the Nabster is never going to dislodge the old warhorse after today's showing.
