arguably the weakest premiership ever.  Arsenal are in 5th place and they are an awful side, Palace 6th who have barely no attack, Zaha aside, who is hardly prolific.  Sheff Utd have the joint best defence and no disrespect but they are a pub side

I agree that, City and Liverpool, aside it's a very poor division this year. I had a freebie for the Bournemouth v Norwich match at the weekend. Neither side looked anything but bang average and it struck me that, right now, I'd back us to beat them.

Bit harsh really. They more than matched Liverpool at Bramall Lane a few weeks back and should've won.

don't get me wrong, I applaud them, Chris Wilder has done a brilliant job and shown you can get results with hard work and tenacity, they beat Arsenal cos they wanted it more, even though to be fair Arsenal were rubbish.

However, my point is this Sheff Utd side is a Championship team who 10 or 15 years ago would have been out of their depth at this level.  Who remembers the days when teams came up and played to finish 4th bottom?  You had mini leagues and the bottom sides put out reserves against the top teams and only focused on the 6 pointers (Wolves were fined for it)  now you can come up with a championship side and beat the top teams

So... Bowyer can do a Jimmy Seed, then?

Surely it’s much better that the league is closer,  top two apart , with anyone capable of doing anyone .
Calling  Sheffield Utd a pub side is an insult cos they’ve gone up the right way without the lavish spending of some , good on em
if we go up what are we brazil1970 or dog and duck
  • What Chris Wilder has done at Sheffield United is remarkable. Not the most talented side by any stretch, but it just goes to show you what a side can do if they're willing to put in the hard work and effort.

On another note, Emery needs to sort it out. Luiz, Sokratis and Kolasinac are a disaster together. You have Holding and Tierney sitting on the bench. Pepe looks like a 72m version of Gervinho. How can you leave Ozil at home but prefer to play Willock and Saka. They're kids and clearly not ready. There's zero creativity there.

The ability of promoted teams doing well in the Premier League isn’t all down to a weakening top flight.
The level in the Championship has gone up significantly over the past 5 or so years.
without a doubt the strongest 2nd tier in the world and more recently, stronger than many top divisions too
How come?  There's not more money in the championship but far more in the Prem, how come the standard has got closer despite the finances widening?

Sheff Utd can get to 9th in the prem and spent nothing, they used to say you need to spend 30-50m to compete in the premiership?  I remember teams used to have to yo-yo for a few seasons, then consolidate, now teams come straight up and stay there without even spending
  • There's considerable more money in the Championship.

Teams can finish bottom of the Premier League and come into the 2nd tier with over 100 million in rights fees and they know if they spunk that there are still 2/3 years of parachute payments coming.

I'm not saying championship teams can compete (on a consistent basis) with the top 6 or 7 in the Premier League, but certainly all the teams below are fair game to teams promoted from the Championship

Not correct, that's only parachute payment. Which in theory should make the gap bigger. Eg. teams that go down should have the best chance to bounce back straight way. It just doesn't work like that for some reason?

I completely agree the premiership is a bit odd at the moment, a massive gap between the top 2 and the rest. I think Liverpool have been lucky, but due to Citys inconsistencies they have a great chance to win. Liverpools defence have shown their is a clear weakness imo and they are one of the best defences this season lol

Spurs, Arsenal + United, WTF is happening to them all right now? its like they are doing all they can to give Leicester and the other sides a chance to get in the top 4. Arsenal last night were shocking, Sheffield United did ok/well but only because Arsenal were bad IMO, Defence same old, Pepe (How much?)  + Xhaka leading from the front, not really sure what he offers and was glad he got taken off. PS- Imagine how Aubemeyang must feel right now, or even Lacazette, not sure why they still don't start them both and build around that. 3-5-2  with the right people eg. Bellerin and Tierney wingbacks

The sides come up, actually go for it now in comparison to the past. I do think that might be a difference but you still would expect the main sides not to lose 1-0 away to one them generally.

Didn't they break their transfer record three times during the summer? Think Mcbirnie was £20m and Mousset not much cheaper.

It often goes the other way in that a lot of the sides that come down either have players on big contracts that they need to get rid of, or have players who don't want to play in the Championship. So whilst on the face of it they 'should' go straight back up, they often need a season or 2 of re-adjustment.

Fulham for example lost half their team in the summer and it can take time to adjust. I'm actually surprised they kept hold of Mitrovic but i guess that's only because they have a rich owner and can afford to pay him a fortune, he's on a reported 60k a week so in normal circumstances a Championship side wouldn't be paying that.

Stoke and Sunderland are perfect examples of clubs who haven't been able to cope with the squad overhaul usually required at championship level. Swansea needed last year to readjust and are now on the way back.
  • On the subject of Arsenal, it looks like Emery is trying make them a typical Spanish side with technical players, possession football, passing it to death, which may have yielded success at Sevilla but as last night proved teams who defend deep, press and and hit on the break will get results against them.  They had so much time and space yet did nothing with it.

Can't see Aubameyang hanging around after this season
  • Ouch double blow for Southampton

Goal for Leicester and a red for Bertrand in the build up
  • Wow... talk about double punishment in a way!!

Leicester go 1-0 up and Bertrand gets sent off after a VAR review when he was seen to go into a challenge studs up (catching the Leicester player)
  • I don't particularly like Var  but 100% correct decision there
  • Apparently they showed the decision on the big screen too so left the fans in no doubt why it had been given
  • Do like watching this Leicester team!!
  • 3-0 Leicester

    Boos at St Marys

  • Wont be surprised if the Southampton Manager is on a tight rope

Could see another 5-0 win here
  • Sky just showed fans leaving

Seriously 20 minutes in and fans going home
  • I've picked Leicester on the beat the bookies thread.
    😁
  • Is 3rd an unrealistic target for Leicester this season?

I'm sure they’ll settle for top 4 though
Keep this form up and Leicester could be welcoming back Champions League football.
  • The boring bowl derby, their grounds are the same except for the colour!

great chance for Leicester to get top 4 this season

Wont surprise me if that does happen
  • Southampton unlucky there...

Shame on the fans who have already left, least their team havent given up!!
  • wouldn't mind if Saints went down, they are statistically the most boring team in the premiership
  • Wont be surprised if the Southampton Manager is on a tight rope

Could see another 5-0 win here
Okay didnt expect it before Half-Time!!!
