We were rubbish. We won. Three weeks ago I didn't think we had a team that had enough quality for the Championship. We've shown that both playing well and playing poorly we can get results against most sides, and shouldn't fear anyone. I was preparing myself for a tough opening stretch as the squad beded in. We're second to a very good Leeds side.
Brilliant.28 -

Beeb website report:
Charlton Athletic moved up to second in the Championship after continuing their unbeaten start to the season with victory over Brentford.
Conor Gallagher scored his third goal of the season in the 41st minute to hand the Addicks victory.
Brentford's Sergi Canos almost capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the early stages but shot over the bar.
The Bees dominated possession but could not find an equaliser as their struggles in front of goal continued.

Apart from the obvious three points and magnificent defending I doubt Lee Bowyer will be particularly happy with that. There’s no such thing as a lucky win because we scored and they couldn’t but there’s little doubt that Brentford were the dominant side in that encounter. Steep learning curve for all the club and I expect LB has learned a lot today. Been a particularly hard week with three games and for what is a set of players still bedding in has been remarkable. Once all the teams settle I think we might see a readjustment of the league positions but at the moment we’re there completely on merit. COYR14

if you believe the stats .. we lost 6-0 .. BUT .. still unbeaten and long may it last … sounds like a great all round performance and Lockyer dug Phillips out of a hole .. is that right ?

A nice comfortable home win ,well done boys!!!3

Where was Naby? We surrendered possession for most of the match, and it was the complete opposite of the first forty five minutes v. Forest.
Yes, bodies were put on the line, and it was a valiant defensive performance, but we were very lucky to get anything from the game. The heat definitely didn’t help, and we generally looked a little lethargic. I’m assuming Otzumer wasn’t ready to play again, but a player like that who’s great in tight areas, would have been useful.
Brentford's back four were superb.5 -

Somebody needs to call crimewatch after that smash and grab.11

Eaaassssyyy 😖
Great sign when you still win games after being pummeled for 99% of the game1 -
We looked tired - the tempo of Wednesday and the heat a bad combination for us - Leko in particular looked very lethargic
BUT one chance and one goal - defended brilliantly - every season has gritty backs to the wall matches like that in it - 3 welcome points
Brentford good side who retain possession well - no goal threat though
Bowyer has crafted a side that fights hard even when they are not on top form
Brentford forum is good for a laugh on this match - they are seething !!!18 -

Callum posted this on the match thread. Needs watching again:Gallagher GOAL (with Brentford iFollow commentary) below:Now with added .gif (can't include the Cullen and Williams tackles that were instrumental in catching Brentford on the back foot as I'm limited to seven second clips):

Weren't we playing against a team that had spent over £30m in the summer? Think we're entitled to be outplayed a bit given that. Fantastic stuff. The mindset Bow has created in them is incredible.38

That goal looks even better on the reply!2

Pearce was an absolute mountain at the back today. Lockyer again last ditch defending was top class.
Attacking threat non existent but they defended very well.
Brentford fans on the train made me laugh. Saying we cheated our way to a win - ref and linesman were poor for both teams. Apparently we were the ones diving all over the place.
Apparently they should be beating little old Charlton. Lack of insight. We haven’t lost in nearly a year at home in the league for a reason. We’re also unbeaten this season, for a reason.
Lastly, they said Lyle did absolutely nothing creative all game. If he doesn’t make the run wide, Gallagher doesn’t have that space in the middle.
Make no mistake, I’ve no idea how we won that.9 -

So proud of every single one of those lads out there. They all give 100% and will give everything to play for Charlton. The fans get it and Bowyer gets it. The party hasn't stopped from Wembley and I hope it never will.
Plenty to work on but as a whole should be delighted with another win and our first clean sheet of the season.6 -

Lockyer, Pearce, and Pratley all superb. Great defensive performance3

Posting without nails. Not sure how we won that - what a team performance. Thought we improved when the Rottweiler Lapslie came on and we went 3 at the back...6

On Wednesday we played like Barcelona and drew. Today we played like Burnley and won...that's the joy and mystery of football!
Other than the goal we were terrible in possession BUT we did the dirty stuff brilliantly, countless times Pearce, Lockyer, Pratley etc put their bodies on the line, it was the classic away performance smash and grab, but played at home

And they won't be wanting to sell him.
They'll be very pleased with his development at Charlton.
They don't need to loan him elsewhere if he's progressing well here.

Pearce was my MOTM by the way.8 -
Were we lucky? They had all the possession but Phillips only made two saves, one looked like it was going over. We defended well and carved them open for our goal. They didn’t carve us open like that.
Brentford lost the game when they kept all their eggs in one basket and bid for our striker 2 mins before the close of the window.
Serves them right18
