No tubes to Putney Bridge on Saturday

edited October 2019 in General Charlton

District line

On Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October, there will be no service between Edgware Road / South Kensington and Hammersmith / Wimbledon / Kensington (Olympia). This is due to track replacement work. Use alternative Tube, local or replacement bus routes.

See the latest status updates on London Underground, including a map of closures.

You can go by Overground/train to Putney or Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith.

It's a good 20 min walk from either to Craven Cottage.

Presumably you can bus or cab if required.

Thanks for letting us know as I had planned on getting the tube from Victoria to Putney Bridge. Might now think about driving. Main reason why I drive & dont use public transport. Always seem to be cancellations & delays. Well done tfl.
  • Waterloo to Putney.  Takes 15 mins. Why would anyone use the tube (or drive), for this fixture!?

I'm driving for this fixture. I live in West Sussex an cannot be bothered with paying ridiculous rail fares on top of the £45 it'll cost me to attend the game in the first place.  (Me plus a two and a half year old)

Be careful at Waterloo. We all know what happens down there at the weekends...

Waterloo to Putney.  Takes 15 mins. Why would anyone use the tube (or drive), for this fixture!?
Because Putney Bridge tube is twice as close as Putney Station.

Because our train line doesnt go into Waterloo.....but it does into Victoria.
  • But apart from all those reasons has to be Waterloo to Putney. Pubs and walk or bus from Putney.

    @Covered End thanks for posting.
Google says it is 30 mins walk from Hammersmith station, 1.5 mile.
Hammersmith is on Piccadilly Line. If you go into Charing Cross you can either walk to Piccadilly Circus and catch Piccadilly line direct or take tube from Charing Cross and change after one stop. From Victoria take Victoria line one stop and change at Green Park; Piccadilly Line westbound.

From Hammersmith Bus station stop C there is apparently a 220 bus (to wandsworth) which takes you within 6 mins walk of ground.

Alternatively there is a 430 bus that goes from South Kensington to within 6 mins of ground.

TFL are running replacement bus services from South Kensington but you may have to change and wouldn't recommend relying on these.

Personally looks as though Hammersmith best option for most.
  • ...or stay at home and watch it on the box.
  • Go to Hammersmith and much of the walk is along the riverside path.

Putney station to the river is through the shopping centre (5-10 mins max) then cross the river and through the park to Craven Cottage.

    Not really worth worrying about!

So......its a train to Victoria  & then tube to Green Park, change to Piccadilly line to Hammersmith. Then bus......

And you wonder why I dont just drive from A to B.  Climate change protesters take note  !!

  • Victoria - Clapham junction - Putney

    really not that complex.

Although would imagine a load of knobhead spurs fans about as they have Brighton early ko with Leeds Away at Millwall - the met will be busy this weekend

Train to Victoria, District Line to South Kensington, then Piccadilly Line from South Kensington to Hammersmith is quicker. Then 220 bus/cab/1.5 mile walk.

You've got a 10/15 min walk before you get to the bridge.

Yes if you're coming into Victoria it's as you say above or get tube from Victoria to Hammersmith.

It's equi distance from Putney Overground or from Hammersmith.

    Exactly.

Too many lazy buggers on here.

Surely, as the LU notice  states, it’s just the edgeware road section of the district line that’s not running Saturday. ie, you can still get a District line train that originates from another part of the line.

I don't really understand the question, but I do know there are no tubes running to Putney Bridge.
It's the Kensington stations to Wimbledon that is closed.
If you click on the link I provided to show what is not running you will become enlightened.

So......Swanley to Victoria......Victoria to Clapham Junction.....Clapham Junction to Hammersmith.......bus to the ground.

    OR

Car all the way. No changing. No fuss. Save around £20 on fares (me & Golfie jnr - neither of us have oyster cards or railcards). Diesel will cost less than a fiver & then just need to sort out parking (£6-£8 on a meter)

Christ Golfie, that is clearly not what was said.

It's Victoria to Hammersmith & walk or bus or Victoria to Clapham Junction & change there for Putney !
  • That Putney option is the way to go. No faffing. No sitting in traffic wishing you'd gone by train. Despair for anyone that travels into Charing Cross only to get a tube to hammersmith, instead of getting off at Waterloo for Putney.

One thing is for certain......I wont be travelling into Charing X   !!

    Ok....got it. My bad.
  • Golfie is so gonna drive... :-)
  • Word of warning to allow more time if you're planning on driving or getting the bus from Hammersmith, cos everything takes longer since the bridge has been closed.
  • Postcode is SW6 6HH. With the excellent public transport links on offer, it is advised not to drive to Craven Cottage. There is no street parking close to the ground so you would have to take your chances further away and walk.
Due to engineering works, the District Line is not running to Putney Bridge Underground station on Saturday. Therefore, the closest option is Putney overground station on the opposite side of Putney Bridge, which is at least a 20-minute walk from the ground. Trains run to Putney from London Waterloo.

  • That paragraph is such a contradiction... "with the excellent public transport links on offer"..... then goes on to say the district line is shut and it is AT LEAST a 20 minute walk from Putney bridge.

    Tsk.

Exactly. Public transport is good when it works......when it doesn't I'd rather drive.
  • Would advise against driving. Traffic in the area a nightmare since Hammersmith has been closed. Putney Bridge, Fulham Palace Road etc all rammed at busy times
