There's a quite good film about Joe Meek (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Meek), the bloke who 'made' the Tornados and the German pop star Heinz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_Burt) who played bass on this,
The film is called Telstar. It is very good.

    There are a couple of shows on at the moment that I've been enjoying. BBC doing an hour long Top of the Pops show on various individual years. Then Channel 5 are running through the biggest songs of the 80s year by year. Been some brilliant songs that I'd completely forgotten about and a couple of guilty pleasures from this;

    Hands Up - Ottawan
    Geno - Dexy's Midnight Runners

Why would Geno be guilty pleasure, it's a classic.

I mentioned when the thread originally appeared that people were including things that were not "guilty pleasures" at all. Might not be to your normal taste (mine would be "Would I Lie to You" - Charles and Eddie.) but it's not "Agadoo"...  :D

As has been pointed out earlier in this thread by Mr Thundercock music shouldn’t be defined as a guilty pleasure. Music connects on an emotional level and if you like a song then you like it. It doesn’t matter if some think it’s not ‘cool’ or it’s cheese. Music snobs piss me off and they should get off their high horses.

I can’t use my daughter as an excuse. She looks at me like I need sectioning when I’m belting this out.

    Wham - Club Tropicana
    The Village People - YMCA
Chesney Hawkes - The One and Only
Taylor Swift - Shake It Off.

    Bona fide classics indeed.
YMCA is truly dreadful and therefore a real guilty pleasure. It doesn’t matter if it’s a guilty pleasure for half the world’s population, it’s still a guilty pleasure.

Possibly the best song to come out of Ireland.
    And that explains K-pop.

That still looks like Taylor belongs on the sex offenders register.

    Guilty pleasure.

I don't know the current situation in regards to the with allegations.
I hope it's all not true. No idea.

As an artist, he's a genius.

Dont generally like Manic Street Preachers stuff as I dont particularly like his voice, that said 'If You Tolerate This' is the bollox.
agreed, a lot of their stuff just sounds like your average pop-rock songs made by a group of boring blokes. But it's a great song.
Wtf? Pop rock? You obviously have never listened to Generation Terrorists or The Holy Bible.

As for 'boring' - try listening to the lyrics.

But sometimes the guilt is related to the source. For example, being totally against the X Factor, everything it stands for and how it manufactures musicians/groups, but enjoying a song from an artist who was on it - that’s a guilty pleasure.

I once worked with a born-again Christian and he had to pretend he didn’t like David Bowie any more. I couldn’t stand him so I didn’t pursue it. He was also always saying that people were making a point of coming only to him and making the sign of Satan.

I hate modern pop music. The over-production, the auto tune, the mumbling - I find it offensive that it's allowed to be called 'music'. But, every now and then... Damn.

    https://youtu.be/ffxKSjUwKdU

PS: Don't ever find yourself as a 47vyear old man belting this out while sat at a set of traffic lights, to find three teenage girls stood at a bus stop, looking at you with a mixture of what can only described as mirth, pity and disgust...

So talking about the source I have to admit that in the early 90s I was a huge fan of R Kelly. His music, anything he produced for other artists, I thought he was a genius. Obviously my opinion changed about him after the revelations about his deviancies but I haven’t gone as far as getting rid of my collection of his CDs, 12” vinyl etc. I’d feel a bit dirty listening to his tunes but taken on their own his songs still stand the test of time.
