I have been channeling Dean Kiely for a number of years now so the credit should go there but before him the wonderful Charlie Wright. Sam Bartram was just before my time.
Not sure how many keepers I've seen play for Charlton - Willie Duff was the first (also saw John Hewie play in goal that season). Its a weird position - playing football with your hands! That's why keepers are a different breed.
Having said that Dean Kiely was my personal favourite, the best save I can recall at The Valley was by Jim Montgomery of Sunderland (yes the famous Jim Montgomery of that save in the 1973 FA Cup final) in a 0-0 draw December 1963 - full length dive at the covered end about 2ft of the ground.
How does it work? Are there separate over-50s and over-60s squads? Which one have you been called up for? How many keepers in the squad? How many matches?
That's fantastic, Doc John - a man of many talents!
(I note we are all glossing over the final few seconds of the clip...oops!)
Fake news!
not really but they took several takes, I saved the first two - then she scored (yeah I was trying to save it sorry I'm not that much of a gent). They finished filming after that one and said they wouldn't use the final (scoring) take.

Journos didn't give much info
exactly -over 50s and over 60s England walking squads have been around for a while - now this season there is over 70s following the trials which were held in Romford, Sheffield and in Somerset.
The full squad is 18 players to cover injuries and availabilty (4 keepers - 1 from Romford trial, 2 from Sheffield and me from Somerset) then from the 18 - 9 were chosen for the match against Wales (its 6 a side).

Yeah but in the Leslie Phillips mould.
Sorry John!

Gutter Press eh ?
Great stuff and congratulations
I play walking football down here in bexhill.....I quite enjoy playing in goal .but I have a couple of questions
I find distribution quite tricky ..any tips?
Also do you wear knee/elbow pads?
Great achievement
None of our 'keepers have mastered distribution. John is much better at it than the ones we have.
