Did the players that took out Williams and Oz even get a card?
Both, but particularly In Otzumer’s case were examples of constant fouling meted out by different players. Therefore they tended to avoid yellows. In our previous two home games Oz was targeted by cynical but fairly innocuous fouls. Refs have to be given the green light from the authorities to be confident in recognising when certain players are being singled out and get on top of it.
First half formation was unclear. Sometimes 4-2-3-1, then 4-1-4-1, then Christ knows, but their number 33 kept getting bags of space.
Matthews had a stinker in my opinion. That should not mean he's lambasted, as he has shown promise previously.
Playing Ledley and Pratley first half lacked ambition, but maybe that was the game plan. Then a stupid goal was conceded and that was that.
Gallagher showed glimpses of his usual brilliance. It was a shame him and Maloney got in each others way towards the end with a chance. It was a bit awkward in my opinion. Think Maloney should've just gone for it, but I thought it looked a bit like he felt obliged to let Connor take over.
Not a typical Bowyer/Jackson/Marshall Charlton battling performance overall, but another ground ticked off for me.

Just in, that was a pathetic display, spineless, effortless and Boro were marginally less shit than us, I suspect it will be a long time before I witness such a poor game of football as that.
What concerns me most if that at the moment we are consistently losing away to the average to poor sides, Wigan, Millwall, Luton and now Boro, when these are the games we should be getting wins in, or at least preventing the opponent getting the 3 points.
We've been poor in all of these games, but at the same time we don't have the defensive resilience to be rubbish but nick a nil nil.
A long time since I've been so cross at end of match. That was abysmal. I wonder if the future uncertainty is getting to them? V disappointed in the senior pros - Pearce, Pratley, Matthews. We miss Cullen so much.
What future uncertainty?
If you're talking about the takeover, I am certain it will not matter a jot whether it goes through or not to the players.
It will because some of them could end up surplus to requirements.
Footballers are mercenaries, in the main. They don't care any further than the next pay packet, it is how football has been for many years.
Was at the game - first half we showed no ambition and the faffing about with sideways passing between the defenders was infuriating . Second half there was an improvement with Lyle and Albie however we only really started putting pressure on Boro in the last 10 mins with some urgency at last. As a side note the stewards and staff were decent folks. Expected more with an 8 hour round trip

Terrible way to reward the faithfull 499
Just in. Blinding day out Best result of the day was me counting 499 as well. Only missed Fulham away this season but watched that on the Tele. The game was the worse I've seen us play all season and yet boro only managed to beat us 1 -0 Just had another £20 on us to finish top 6 Up the addicks
The whole day was a nightmare from start to finish. Took me four hours and four trains from Lincoln. Train coming back was also delayed which meant I missed my connection. Then to match.....Well they were absolutely awful for 85 minutes. No movement, no cohesion. no quality and the passing was dreadful. It just about sums it up when you have your first shot of any description in the 70th minute!...and your first corner some time after that. We only started to play in the 85th minute and could had stolen an undeserved equaliser. If Boro could shoot straight they could have won by a hat full!
What was Bowyer thinking playing Ledley from the start. There is no way he was going to be match sharp. Terrible decision. Nobody came out of that match with any credit apart from the supporters who made the long journey up and had to sit (stand) through that! Feeling very depressed this morning as I can't see us turning things around any time soon.
Half the problem, if we are being honest is we over rely on 3 players that, if we are being total honest, aren't up to it. 2 of them played at a level none of us expected in the 1st couple of months. Now they are playing at the level I would consider their norm.
That's why we can't keep clean sheets. We have a full fit defence and it's still the main problem.
Yes we missed Taylor, we will continue to miss Cullen and Williams but the defence needs sorting and that's not due to injury.

The defence are under lot more pressure because we those 3 players help us keep the ball, create chances and score goals.
In January we need to bring in more players of their quality.

That's true, but it's not the replacements for those 3 that has been the biggest problem, it is also exaggerated by the fact that all 3 of their direct replacements are injured as well. We should still have been able to have been tight and well organised at the back, we haven't been.
The injured players will return, that won't sort out the defence.
At the start of the season we were conceding lots of shots, but managing to save or block them. Now the opponents are starting to score them more frequently
The Expected Goals table does show this, indeed on that basis we should have conceded the most goals of any team in the division, which suggests a lack of protection for the defence is as much of an issue as the defending itself
Kick off at 11pm local time so by the second half I was quite tired and emotional but I thought that was abject.
Have we ever played three up front before this match? Front three never touched it for first 45 minutes. Could have played for 194 minutes and wouldn't have scored. Doughty did well as a wing back last week, so why change it? Midfield weak as piss- Gallagher like a headless chicken and the new bearded one looked like he had won his place in a pub quiz. I knew we would miss Cullen but this is ridiculous. Another limp defeat to a poor side and totally different to the first six games.
I know there are injuries but we should have tried to grind out an ugly 1-1 not just hand it to them on a plate. We just look like are waiting to lose.

I made this suggestion on the Injuries thread.
.... I'd like to see a second ref following on video, with the increasingly impressive stats on other screens , telling the on-pitch ref : "third similar offence by X, third similar offence on Y", etc
Currently VAR is not used this way at all. Why not? I think the authorities are wedded to the absolute primacy of the Referee's Decision. The on-pitch ref should be allowed to focus on what his eyes tell him. He should not have to remember how many times Oztumer has been taken out, or who did it, when somebody else can track that and tell him over the radio earpiece.

The more I see of EG the more I think what a crock of shit it is.
Please explain to me what the fuck it matters...?? The above table tells me that Bristol City SHOULD be 2nd bottom.....but they aren't. They are in the top 6. Does that mean they are crap or excellent..?? EG has NO bearing on what happens in a match. Page scored a screamer 2 years ago & Mo Salah can miss from 5 yards. Should Liverpool have Page & us have Salah. If not, then EG doesnt amount to a hill of beans. What matters is what happens over 90 mins. No more, no less.
It's not just that we've been missing the 3 players we have who are top end championship players (Cullen, William's, Taylor). Its that we've also been missing the players brought in to be their replacements Kayal and Oztumer. And their backups/alternative options Field and Aneke. And other players who can do a job there JFC and Lapslie. Add to that Both Galagher and Pratley missing games through suspension and it's one big midfield clusterfuck.
Games are won and lost in midfield. We simply haven't had the strength to win that battle for the whole match for a while - it's been most obvious since we lost Cullen.
Weve been forced to do some seriously ridiculous stuff in midfield of late. Like having a utility defender filling in at DM a 36 year old DM trying to go box to box. Using Gallagher as the 10 which takes away from his best attributes. Starting a 32 year old who hasn't played in 18 months etc. And that's before we even get to looking at the involvement of Morgan, Doughty and Vennings.
It's not good but it's only got really bad in the last few weeks. We've been stuttering since before then. And I have to say that some things in my view have been avoidable. I think the injuries have got to Bow and have led him into making decisions he wouldn't usually make. He's always been a horses for courses man but that seems to have completely left him. The Millwall game is the best example of this one. It was clear before the game that it was a 442 game and not a game that would suit Sarr. Other decisions like not giving Ozzy a run of games when William's first got injured and instead using Gallagher as the 10 meant we got less out of Gallagher and lacked creativity.
Now things have got so bad we dont really have the luxury of that sort of decision.
Bow needs to go back to basics. Find a way to get the best out of the players he has available. William's coming back and the transfer window can gove us a boost.

There's no denying we're in a terrible run of form right now but the positives are that Taylor is back and the bottom 3 also lost. People clearly got carried away with ideas of promotion after our great start but we have the leagues lowest budget (for now) and as others have said, this season was always about staying up.
We just lost to a side who have a 15m striker and their goal scorer cost 7m. Some of our fans need to take a step back for a second and think about what we're competing with.
