Attempt blocked. Charlie Austin (West Bromwich Albion) right footed shot from outside the box is blocked.

Oshilaja looks pretty tidy at CB. Surprised we haven’t tried him alongside Lockyer more.
Bowyer likes having a Leftie and a Rightie next to each other at the back though doesnt he

42' Another good block by Oshilaja on Austin, this time getting in the way of his volley. #cafc 0 #wba 1

43' Harper's shot deflects just over the bar. Sarr heads the resulting corner away. #cafc 0 #wba 1

Good point. Just think we’ve been so bad there it couldn’t hurt to try. Might change our style though.

Its surprised me when we've played three at the back

Abraham Odoh (Charlton Athletic) wins a free kick in the defensive half.

HALF-TIME | West Brom go into the break ahead thanks to Zohore's strike. #cafc

Been saying oshi at centre back for ages. Looks comfortable there today, has saved us a few times today. Just need to find someone to partner him!

Cant argue with the scoreline at present

Bit like Thursday, we've shown a lot of effort, there is just isnt the experience compared to West Brom's players

Best thing that can come out of today is for Williams / Hemed to come on with 20-mins to go

None of the kids showing they can step up for me so far, although it is a bit harsh as in a normal team (not blighted by injuries) you'd expect them to come in surrounded by senior players who can guide them through a match rather than it being a pure U23 team

Oshilaja been our best player; Green hasnt got involved enough

Henry looks a prospect, Oshilaja man of our match this half. Otherwise, men against boys.

Watching On the stream kindly given in the thread ..

not too sure what I expected from today’s game given how many inexperienced players are fielded however - some thoughts at half time

    - very disappointing that we are sticking with the ‘tactic’ of lumping it forward and playing long balls to the lone striker... lad up front trying his hardest to get onto it but alone he can’t do much

    - Sarr looking more and more out of his depth with the ball at his feet, even when surrounded by u23s!

    - midfield lacks an idea and continues to lump it forward rather than get it in the deck and play its way forward ... maybe Williams coming in may change that?

    - Stevenson at left back looks uncomfortable and not confident

    - Andre green looks good and direct but he’s having very little time in the ball and very little support arround him when he does!

Sarr again dragged out of position for that. Undone by a really simple one-two
Stevenson didn't follow his man, all round poor defending there.
You there or watching on the box? Replay clearly show Sarr drifting

Replay also shows Stevenson try to come inside, leaving his man and allowing the first pass of the 1-2 they both fucked up IMO.

Edit just seen it again Sarr and Stevenson both drift out of position.
  • Odoh is so far out of his depth it's embarrassing - contributed nothing and looks about twelve. Why is he starting?

Pleased enough with Deji at CB.
  • Definite handball from Sarr in the penalty area (comes off his fist) - Replays have just shown it from behind Phillips goal

Of all the youngsters Odoh looked the least capable to me. Would like to see Morgan for him second half. 1-0 is alright considering.

BBC WM said that WBA are playing their 2nd string against Charlton‘s 2nd string. I think they’ve overestimated Charlton as we are playing our Junior Reds team.
Oh how I wish our second string included Gareth Barry, Chris Brunt and Charlie Austin...

Davison been quiet so far but just chased a completely lost ball and did well to win it!!

Thought he did really well there. Shame Odoh looks a bit lost.

Considering vast difference of age/experience in the two teams, 1-0 down is a great effort from our boys.
  • Take off that Odoh who’s been a passenger so far (a brick wall would have a better first touch and more movement) and bring on Williams. The rest don’t look that bad but need a bit more urgency and realisation they need to make the most of the chance to show what they can do.
