I know I know there is a thread somewhere...
But just wanted to say that Nina Simone cover (if that's what we call it) of 'alone again'
    Leaves me speechless...
Is that the Gilbert O'sullivan song?
Yes - sorry, was a little bit shipwrecked last night...
    'Alone again Naturally '

I came to say Man Who Sold The World - Nirvana Unplugged. Massively prefer it to Bowie’s original.

Roberta Flack's 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' by George Michael, is an excellent cover (as was the original, of course).
I would say the best cover of this song was by Roberta Flack

    Feel my love - Adele

Original songs both by Bob Dylan.
One of the best covers of any song I've ever heard & one of the very few that are better than the original

Never had any time for U2, but Johnny Cash's 'One' made me overcome my perfectly reasonable predudice.
    Heart rending lyrics...
Never heard this, feel the same about U2 but JC can do no wrong, pisses all over U2 ( even tho it's theirs haha)

    Money - Flying Lizards.
Great version, best for me is by Richard Popcorn Wylie, a Motown release soon after the original by Barrett Strong also on Motown. Bizarre they thought they could get a hit so soon after the original release.

    I think I agree...

Didn't know how to classify it, was in tears so didn't care...

A bit like James Blake's: 'Radio silence'

and Bill Withers, 'Hope she'll be happier with him'

Too late to rename the thread, but good point.

Some great suggestions, some unbeatable, But stumbled upon this recently. It reminded me of how much I liked All The Young Dudes (Mott the Hoople) when it was first released.
This live version comes from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert and features Ian Hunter, David Bowie and Mick Ronson, who was seriously ill at the time.
