  • Sadly I can't see any sport taking place for quite a long time, if us old ones are being banged up for months, probably means, hardly any cricket this summer and maybe the start of the next football season could be affected.
I have to agree i think we won’t see any football or other sports for a while.

  • I expect the Snooker will be cancelled in April

If anyone on here is over 70 (or high risk), and lives in the Charlton/Blackheath/Greenwich area and needs someone to get groceries or stuff for them, please let me know. I intend on doing a lot of cycling to stay fit to compensate for working from home and more than happy to help anyone on here.

Doesn't have to be a member of this forum, just PM me if you need help or know anyone that does.
First post from anyone suggesting positive action. We need a sense of community to come through and seen little sign  of this so far.

Maybe we can get a thread going for people able to offer help with this kind of stuff? I'd be happy to help anyone in the Lambeth area that needs it...
Perhaps we could get AFKA to put up a STICKY where offers of help and requests for help can be posted. ?

So, I know over 70s who are in work. Will the government ensure they don’t lose pay?
For some this might be the crux of the matter. No money or break this coming diktat.
Well that's their choice then, isn't it? But they will know the risks.
  • How strange to find out that @Johnnysummers5 and @ross1 are over 70! I thought you were both youngsters :)
  • A bloke in his fifties died of this thing.

This is generally a wider issue. People who need to work putting others at risk and themselves too potentially depending on their age and health
  • I am 73, have mild/moderate emphysema and mild/moderate Angina.

As ross1 has gruesomley but accurately catagorised ' no hope so don't take up a hospital bed '.

My 25 year old son has been self isolating in his bedroom at our house for the last 3 days.
Doesn't have coronavirus symptoms, he has a blocked up nose and sore throat and feels grotty.

Trouble is I have read at least 2  reliable reports of cold symptoms morphing into coronavirus after around a week.

Thinking of calling 111 but not yet.
Have made sure he has his personal cutlery, toothpaste etc, & regular hand washing.

I am 'sortof self isolating', so will still take the dog over Cray meadows to help my mental health.

Good luck to you and your son.  I don't think anyone would blame you for dialling 111 sooner rather than later.

Yes, but pre ex conditions like so, so many of the deaths.

Quite a few dying that probably wouldn't have in normal circumstances.
  • Surely this up to 4 month isolation will have a negative effect on quite a few over 70s

If I can't get my hair cut every 4 weeks, I'll be able to sit on it by August !
  • You could always try cutting it yourself Fanny :-)

  • This thread proving that no matter what the government suggest people will always find fault with it, Boris is a cnut for not making people isolate and now he plans to do that he’s a cnut because people can’t go out for papers.

Again, the 59 year old had heart problems and was vulnerable.
The facts are,  no one out of the 35 deaths  in the UK, DIDN'T have underlying health issues. It is still very sad for his friends and family.

  • Dear @Fanny Fanackapan

As a lady who I thought was 55 (why is my nose growing) and can still touch her toes and high kick like a Tiller girl, do you agree that you would go stir crazy if you had to stay in your castle with Mr F for the next 4 months ?

    Your ardent admirer

The problem is Sam until we get people dying in thier 30s or 40s some wont take any notice.
Talking to the father in law  yesterday and he said the same thing he wil take a lot more notice if a so called fit healthy late 30s died.

There are various tables knocking around showing the difference between coronavirus, a cold and normal flu. The symptoms of a cold definitely different. I'm not aware of a cold morphing into coronavirus but what I have read describes having a runny nose as a cold not corornavirus. That said you can have both at the same time.

I had a cold for a few days last week. I was a bit concerned what it was when it was developing as wasn't sure it was a cold for a couple of days until I got the runny nose etc

People will totally panic when this happens.
The press and social media will go in melt down but it will probably be an Undetected heart issue as we get when "fit and healthy" young people die from running marathons. ( The young Charlton fan who died running the marathon in Ireland springs to mind)

  • There's never a "one size fits all" in these sort of these. People are always going to unfairly disadvantaged, but at the same time the sheer number of people means assessing everyone individually is impossible.
Bloke who drinks in my local is in his early 80's still works and only gave up doing triathlons a couple of years ago. Nearly every weekend he goes for a long cycle regardless of the weather. He's way healthier, fitter and active than me in 40's.
Is it still the right thing to do for all over 70's? No-one really know for sure.
  • There are clearly going to be some younger people more at risk than some older people.
  • Am not 70 but in my 60's.  ENT Hospital Consultant has contacted me as have had cancer twice and suggested I avoid public travel and socialising.  So am only going out to shop.  Luckily working from home.  Will do social isolation to try and avoid it... plenty of books, work, Netflix, Amazon Prime.... lots of wine and beer in!
