Not sure why anyone is getting so hung up on these games. They’re meaningless and it’s all about getting through unscathed and building match sharpness and fitness.
A club could have the best pre season ever, but that doesn’t mean they’ll have a good season when it comes to it.
QPR lost 7-1 to Chelsea today. Doesn’t mean anything, just like our results don’t mean anything either. I am sure if you’d ask the players, they would say the same thing.

Well we would say that cos we lost, if we’d smashed em 4-0 you can guarantee the rose tinted would be saying how brilliantly prepared we are and ready to restart the season running .....
for the record I agree but we are shit no matter what amount of training we have , we are doomed I tell thee
Yeah these mean nothing. You never know what Bowyer wants the side working in from a tactical and fitness perspective, and you don't know what Parker wants his side working in.
I still worry about lack of goals in our side, but nothing this week has impacted that one way or the other. I just worry we don't create enough chances in midfield and don't have enough goals in midfield. Of our central midfielders JFC is the only one with a record of scoring and that was more so in League One and he's barely played in two years.
any prolonged exercise and competitive play, however contrived it may be is surely welcome at this time .. the players must be made as match fit as possible after 3 months off

People getting their knickers in a twist happens every single pre season/whatever this is. It's guaranteed and quite amusing it still happens.

Not scoring a single goal and conceding 10 - no matter how informal the matches were - doesn’t exactly bode well for everyone being “sharp”. If anything the informality makes it worse - if that’s the outcome when the pressure is off and the oppo aren’t really trying, what will it be like when it matters and the opponent really cares about the result?
I agree generally though - next Saturday is all that matters right now and fortunately Arsenal and Fulham are both much better than Hull. Can’t say I’m feeling at all confident though and it would have been nice to get a bit of a pep up from these two friendlies. I doubt it would have done the players any harm either -it’s a long time since we played well, even allowing for the enforced break in the season and confidence needs to be built up quick.
In my mind we are down so anything better than that is a bonus anyway - that’s not a defence mechanism, that’s my genuine view and however meaningless friendlies may be, to let 10 in and score none is an indicator of where we are at
Someone close to the team tells me that is was very much an informal game played over three 45 minute periods and the final period wasn't even played to the end as everyone just called it a day.
It was roll on, roll off subs etc.
To give you an idea of how informal it was Basey and Maynard-Brewer took turns at referring the game.
Both clubs saw it very much as a training exercise rather than a full game and nothing should be read into it.
Both clubs keen to keep line ups etc private so as not to alert other clubs who is and isn't available ahead of the first league game.
Photos were taken and records of line ups keep for future handbooks but there were no programmes or even team sheets.
@Covered_End_Lad is correct. It was 2- 0 at the end of the first period and 3 - 0 at the end of the second period and then Fulham scored late on. I guess that's when they packed it in and went home for their tea.
As said very informal and not a match in a proper sense at all, hence why nothing reported.
Training environment or not, if we should have been 3 up after 20 minutes and haven't put one away it still worries me. 2 games and zero goals, no Taylor..... things aren't looking pretty, BUT, we've had our backs against the wall before and defied odds. I trust Bowyer will have them ready for the season to resume.

But the lack of goals was a worry before the break and remains a worry. Us getting denied by a German international Arsenal keeper doesn't really change that. We could have had two in that first half, and against lesser keepers, which is who we will face in the league, you might score those goals.
As for Fulham, because we haven't seen the game, we don't know what happened. There are so many variable in a rolling subs informal three 45 minute "halves" game.
I completely agree that our lack of goals, lack of creativity in midfield, and lack of Taylor, even if he hasn't been nearly at his best since the injury, are all worries. But none of these are worries because of two friendlies.
I’m being dead serious when I say minutes in the bag for a lot of the squad and no injuries is as good as any friendly win.
Injuries in Germany were up 250% I read somewhere, and we certainly don’t need any help with them do we, every unscathed minute is a result for us as the usual suspects (Page, Williams, Aneke) bodies will be adjusting to it, worry about the result this Saturday.

Did not hear that about the injuries in Germany, i suppose it makes sense and assume its coz of the lack of warm ups and fitness levels but up 250% on what?
Certainly something extra to worry about as we will be playing 2 games a week.

Sounds like it was next goals wins if they packed up after that!

German clubs have suffered massively with injuries as players returned to training and now back to games. There's only so much fitness work they could've done and it's all running, no conditioning, no strength, no gym work. It really impacted their soft tissue injuries. Luckily, so far we haven't had that problem but it is definitely something we will have to manage very carefully going into these last 9 games in only 5 weeks.
The fact that things are having to be socially distant also restricts the amount of recovery work that can be completed. It's a challenge, but challenges not foreign to our medical team.
If players manage to get through the first 2 weeks unscathed, it will put them in a good position for the remaining games.

Sage How is the social distancing restricting the recovery? Massage? Also re the gym work, how are our team doing it. Can it not just be one or 2 at a time space dependent?

I believe it was on the amount of injuries before the lockdown. Understand it may sound a bit sensationalised but the point still stands either way.

Yeh it is worry mate. Just sounds weird that injuries are up 250% and wondered what that was based on.

I'm more interested in knowing what the structure of the training was and how Bow and Parker are now getting along.
I was trying to give some information and some context.
If you want to query the preparation regimes then please address you questions to Mr S Parker and Mr L Bowyer.

Can't argue with that!
Are we taking the North Korea approach where if we don't talk about it, it didn't happen.
EDIT: Just read Henry's post. Still pretty shit and nothing about these games will be giving the team any confidence.

Hull lost 4-0 to Sheff Utd. Then at the weekend Barnsley beat Sheff Utd 2-0.
Brentford won 3-2 at Arsenal...........then at the weekend lost 2-0 at Watford.
West brom played 2 friendlies against Man Utd. Won 2-1 and lost the other 3-1.
Just shows that you can't read too much into these games.
Also Blackburn lost 6-0 at Liverpool and QPR lost 7-1 at Chelsea.
