I'd take Matthews or Gunter tbf. No moaning from me if we get either of them.
Prefer Mathews as he is younger and would help us stabilise in the coming seasons. But if he does not want to stay, Günter is a great alternative.

Bow's jumper is not available in the club shop, unfortunately 😔 #cafc
@Ollywozere Can you as Bows where he got the jumper when you have a moment between all the incomings

    Gunter over Matthews....not for me
Same here. I can't remember much about Gunter but he'd have to be something special to be better than Matthews, who was my POTY last season.

Not sure about Gunter, he’d definitely be good at this level but I was hoping for a younger option. I trust whatever Bowyer wants
What Bowyer wants is to get out of this division.

He'll try to do whatever it takes.

  • I’m in the Matthews over Gunter gang. I don’t see how that’s an improvement

Would prefer Matthews but not particularly disappointed if Gunter signs on, international breaks off if he signs?

But Mathews isn’t our player and wants to move to a Championship club.

If Bowyer has a choice between Matthews and Gunter, and he thinks Gunter is the better option, then so do I.

I’d personally choose Matthews but bows is ten fold more qualified to make the right choice, so again, IBWT.

Matthews had an excellent season but he didn't create/assist a single goal. That's how you analyse a player's attacking ability and not just intent.

Lee’s jumper isn’t as bad a stinker as Maddison’s watch...
Have we all turned into Gok Wan?

Matthews isn't an attacking full-back either
I'm sorry..???.  He was our best attacking treat second  half of last season. Put in more & better crosses than anyone else.
  • Surprised Gunter is only 31, remember singing him on FM all the time, and it feels like that was about 15 years ago.

He started 28 games with one sub appearance, contributing one assist and creating two “big chances”.

Gunter would be a very good signing in league 1. He is in front of Matthews in the Wales squad! The issue we’ve got is we know what we will get with Matthews but would be happy with either or even better....both!!!

Doughty's amazing volley against Wigan. Where to be fair the cross was hardly threatening

Contrast to Chris Gunter who started 18 games, contributed 0 assists and created 0 “big chances”. I’m not sure either option jumps off the page at you!

More fool Wigan then as we scored from it

    Blimmin' stats again.

Straight off the top of my head, home to Wigan, 93rd minute losing 1-2.
Matthews charges down the wing and slings over a well weighted cross, Aneke knocks it down, Bonno moves on to it and strokes it home.

Stats say: assist Aneke. But Matthews was key, without his run and cross the goal would never have happened.

They'll be other instances like that also. Stat's, eh? They never tell the full story.

Not really, I’d use stats as you have if I hadn’t seen the player play much or at all.  It’s more than that.  Williams was our attacking spark second half of 18/19, got a few assists and no goals.
  • Matthews was by far and away our best defender last season
  • I'd be happy with Gunter. The guy's got 96 caps for Wales, which says something about his consistency. Over 300 appearances for Reading and 155 for Forest, if he's still fit those are impressive numbers

Bowyers very good at dropping little things into press conferences to get his own way. Bowyer could be putting pressure on Matthews to sign

    Reading at home for doughty
  • I think Matthews, good player though he is, messed Bowyer around too much in the end. He knew we wanted him but him and his agent wouldn’t commit. No idea if true but I heard that Matthews was given a deadline to sign and didn’t. Fair enough. That’s football but Gunter is going to be very steady at League one level. Our defence was very motheaten.

I think Bow is assembling a squad of players aimed specifically to get out of this league this season. Gunter is 31, Schwartz is 31 and Watson is 35. Not building for the future but certainly should be very good at the level we are at.

It was, he was 16 at the time

Stands by the photocopier with paper in his hand. I worked with a guy who photocopied a book and sat at his desk reading the paper, making him look busy. Clever

    Stats say on Transfermarkt,:
Matthews got 1 assist. He played 29 games in all competitions last season.
Gunter got 2 assists in all comps. He played 24 games in all comps last season. (Includes 3 PL2 games)

I'd personally prefer Matthews, but if he's not willing to commit then Gunter will do a good job at right back in L1.

To be honest I will always want players that WANT to wear the hallowed red and white kit over want-aways.
