Thoughts are with any hard working staff that may lose jobs, stuff the 10 points that may help us, rather good hard working people kept jobs and are able to support there family43

Wigan quoted on BBC News - "our major objective is to complete all our remaining fixtures for this season"0

Wow, that doesn't sound good for them at all.PeterGage said:Wigan quoted on BBC News - "our major objective is to complete all our remaining fixtures for this season"

Unless this has a massive de-stabilising effect and they let players go they will see themselves clear of relegation this season0

Is there not a Penalty for not paying the players?PrincessFiona said:

This. Also would rather Charlton stay up through our own volition rather than because Wigan have gone out of business. At a time like this as well, I'd dread the thought of losing my livelihood.leftbehind said:Thoughts are with any hard working staff that may lose jobs, stuff the 10 points that may help us, rather good hard working people kept jobs and are able to support there family9 -
Is anyone being gleeful? Seems like the majority of posters on here are actually saddened by the news, even though it could help us.Bedsaddick said:I wouldn’t get all gleeful too soon . That could quite easily be us in the very near future .5 -

BBC report says that players agreed to take a 3 month deferral of wages from April. Could be that wages were due at the start of this week & not enough money to pay not only June's but the previous couple of months as well.DoctorCharlton said:Didn't they get taken over recently?
EDIT: taken over last month..

Not sure. But maybe it was the ones who refused to play so they decided not to play footballers who didn't play football?sammy391 said:

What a crazy situation football is in at the moment
Imagine being a Wigan fan at the moment, seeing your team in incredible form on the pitch, only for this to happen.1 -
Not going to pretend I’m not happy about our survival hopes being massively boosted should the deduction kick in now.But firstly would like to congratulate the EFL on letting yet another dodgy owner in and within four weeks bringing down a good club.
And secondly it could easily be us some time in the future.
Very bitter sweet feel to it this.25 -
Must be mates with Southall. Everyone in Manchester knows each other, it's only a villagecarly burn said:

And I'd guess if the players aren't getting paid, they won't want to play.
Is it a case of if they can't field a team against us, we'd get the 3pts due to their default?

Feel really bad for the Wigan supporters, hopefully the club can get through this.7
-
Assuming it's an automatic 12 point deduction, it's good news in that it will put another side below us.
Bad news in that we have to play them in the penultimate game and now they probably won't be safe.

I am quite happy for us to benefit from clubs losing points due to financial irregularities which enabled said club to benefit but less sanguine about benefiting from a team going into administration.
Might explain why they are playing out of their skin though.2 -
It's 12 points, immediately.
Unless you are already relegated (or promoted even with a 12 point deduction which is less likely) that's due to Uncle Ken putting Leeds into admin at half time on the last day of the season when they were already relegated.0 -

It's a 12 point deduction, not 10. From what I can make out from this - https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-3---the-league/ - it's automatic when they enter administration, not something that you can appeal (unless the administration is caused by another club defaulting on a payment which consequently forces Club A into administration). The only grey area is that when a points deduction is applied (this season or next season) revolves around whether administrating occurs before or after the 4th Thursday in March, which is obviously based on a season running to May, not July. There's also mention of force majeur. Working at the moment so only skim read it.
Good news for us, but another club let down by the EFL. How can you go into administrating 4 weeks after being taken over?!6 -
According to Sky just now, its 12 points, but in the current season if applied before March. Obviously Covid-19 stopped the season in early March so I would expect Wigan to appeal (and win) by saying that C19 has been the major factor in them having no money.Cafc43v3r said:It's 12 points, immediately.

99% certain they won't get punished this season.2 -
I wonder if the authorities might be a bit more lenient with the points deduction give the current economic climate?0
-
Football is fucking broken16
-
Begbies Traynor are specialists in Administration. Feel sorry for Wigan fans/Paul Cook and who've done a very creditable job at looking like they were staying up.
On the other side they're part of the bonkers finances of the champ. They've paid way over affordable wages for many a year. Hopefully L1 L2 sort out wage 2 turnover ratios. No chance in the Champ though.0 -
Unless they temporarily amended/suspended their rules concerning administration as a result of Covid, I don't think their rules allow them any scope for leniency.Chris_from_Sidcup said:I wonder if the authorities might be a bit more lenient with the points deduction give the current economic climate?0 -
If as the administrator says the aim is to complete their fixtures, does that mean if they fail to do so we get the 3 points? They also have to play Hull and Barnsley.0
-
I wouldnt try and second guess the EFL they're a law unto themselves, making it up as they go along 😏.13
-
6 points this season and 6 next? Or is that punishing them twice0
-
Four weeks after being taken over as well...
fit and proper test my arse. Whole system needs overhauling.9
