Wow, that doesn't sound good for them at all.
  • Unless this has a massive de-stabilising effect and they let players go they will see themselves clear of relegation this season

Am I right In thinking That Sheffield Wednesday players haven’t been paid fully this month too?

Is there not a Penalty for not paying the players?

  • Didn't they get taken over recently?

    EDIT: taken over last month..

BBC report says that players agreed to take a 3 month deferral of wages from April. Could be that wages were due at the start of this week & not enough money to pay not only June's but the previous couple of months as well.

Not sure. But maybe it was the ones who refused to play so they decided not to play footballers who didn't play football?

  • What a crazy situation football is in at the moment

Imagine being a Wigan fan at the moment, seeing your team in incredible form on the pitch, only for this to happen.
  • From the sun:

A top Manchester-based firm have been brought in to sort out their affairs while the EFL may be forced to dock them 12 points for the action.

Just when they thought things couldn't get any worse!
Must be mates with Southall.  Everyone in Manchester knows each other, it's only a village

And I'd guess if the players aren't getting paid, they won't want to play.

Is it a case of if they can't field a team against us, we'd get the 3pts due to their default?

    Very true.
  • Assuming it's an automatic 12 point deduction, it's good news in that it will put another side below us.

Bad news in that we have to play them in the penultimate game and now they probably won't be safe.

  • I am quite happy for us to benefit from clubs losing points due to financial irregularities which enabled said club to benefit but less sanguine about benefiting from a team going into administration.

Might explain why they are playing out of their skin though.

    It's 12 points, immediately.

Unless you are already relegated (or promoted even with a 12 point deduction which is less likely) that's due to Uncle Ken putting Leeds into admin at half time on the last day of the season when they were already relegated.

According to Sky just now, its 12 points, but in the current season if applied before March. Obviously Covid-19 stopped the season in early March  so I would expect Wigan to appeal (and win) by saying that C19 has been the major factor in them having no money.

99% certain they won't get punished this season.
  • I wonder if the authorities might be a bit more lenient with the points deduction give the current economic climate?
  • Begbies Traynor are specialists in Administration.  Feel sorry for Wigan fans/Paul Cook and who've done a very creditable job at looking like they were staying up.

On the other side they're part of the bonkers finances of the champ.  They've paid way over affordable wages for many a year.  Hopefully L1 L2 sort out wage 2 turnover ratios.  No chance in the Champ though.

Unless they temporarily amended/suspended their rules concerning administration as a result of Covid, I don't think their rules allow them any scope for leniency.
  • If as the administrator says the aim is to complete their fixtures, does that mean if they fail to do so we get the 3 points? They also have to play Hull and Barnsley.
  • 6 points this season and 6 next? Or is that punishing them twice
