In all seriousness, I personally find his commentary style patronising, overly opinionated, fawns endlessly over ‘celebrity‘ players, unnatural (in that he’s very scripted as opposed to reactive to events), trivia obsessed, thinks he’s amusing while being anything but, tries too hard to be ‘your mate having a chat’ while often rattling on about fuck all and passing moral judgement on anything that doesn’t fit his view.
But this only contributes to why I dislike him so much.
The reason I always refer to him as a ‘Cushion faced prick’ is because he has repeatedly, like a prick, made ‘comic’ references to how players look (examples being Luke Chadwick, Ronaldinho, Peter Beardsley etc) in his ‘look at how funny I am’ way, while being apparently blissfully unaware of his own distinct lack of supermodel looks and looking like he could be the illegitimate offspring of the aforementioned cushion and Bungle Bear.
Can't say I love or hate his commentating really but what a weird statement to make, particularly with what's going on in the country right now. Who does he think will give a shit with his predicament of having to commentate on the 3rd place play off at the next Euros instead of the final. In fact he probably has done more damage to his future opportunities at ITV by making that statement.

If I turn on the official international PL stream for a 3pm ko and he is commentating on Spurs, I tend to switch streams for NBC coverage now.
Sorry but what a prick. 22 years in the entertainment industry is a hell of a good run. He gets well paid to fly around the world watching football. Gets him a decent garden. Not even sacked, just doing the semi final not the final. He could say nothing, put out a jokey tweet asking if Sam Matterface can sort him two together for Villa on Sunday but he does this stupid whoa is me thing. Same moan that that prick from 5 Live Alan Green came up with.
At least Motson admitted that he was fed up travelling and was happy to carry on working wherever. (he's odd, worked with him a bit, hates foreign food and is amazingly nervous before a broadcast).

Steve Wilson who commentated on the Mendonca wonder show at Wembley was/is superb.
Clive Tyldesley's voice was fine, and becoming a number 2 at 65, seems a good idea as folk began to feel he was the reason England lost big games.
Think he said his name more then anything else during games.
He should just move over gracefully and give the younger generation a chance.
