  • Vardy stretches teams to create gaps for Maddison etc though.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy will undergo hernia surgery and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.

Massive blow for Leicester. He's the one player who seems to be irreplaceable for them
Only scored 1 in the last 7.

I would say Harvey Barnes and James Maddison are more irreplaceable atm
But he stretches the opposition meaning that Barnes and Maddison get more space to work in
  • Anyone else reckon Vardy is good at stretching the defenders?
  • De Bruyne out for 6 weeks.

    Good news day for United.
As good as he is, City probably have enough quality players to be able to cope. 2 years ago when they pipped Liverpool to the title he missed half a season.

They have Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez, Torres and Sterling, most of whom can play anywhere across midfield and attack, so they'll be fine without him for a few weeks.

Right now you'd say the only irreplaceable player they have is Ruben Dias.
  • I can't even picture Ruben Dias' style of play in my head. He just seems to be this sort of factory-built machine of defending who's young, fast, level-headed and extremely impassable. The sort of platonic ideal of a top-level defender: you barely notice him
  • Naby Sarr of course being his glorious antithesis :D
  • Hope @golfaddick is watching Villa v Newcastle as Villas first goal was offside BUT the Newcastle defender deliberately played the ball and that meant Watkins goal stood

Portugal have a hard group in euros but they have such a good side. Obviously Ronaldo wins gAmes on his own but the rest of their side is awesome.

  • Newcastle's slump continues. Another good win for Villa though. 3rd best defensive record and 5 points behind Liverpool with 2 games in hand.

I also love the fact that both Villa's manager and captain are local born fans. That has to be very rare in modern day football. I'm sure there are a few others but i can only think of Barca back when Guardiola was there and Puyol was captain.
  • Newcastle form is ridiculous.

Last 10 games in all competitions: 0 wins, 2 draws, 8 losses
  • Lampard getting sacked today by the looks of it.
  • Thomas Tuchel new Chelsea boss on a 4 year deal.

No manager lasts longer than two years at Chelsea since Mourino left the first time.

Maybe Derby wasn't such a bad job.

Danny Drinkwater posted a picture of himself doing a celebration slide:

He then deletes the picture, and starts denying it had anything to do with Lampard getting the sack !

Edit: Conte 3/7/16-13/7/18 if you want to be picky !

Although Lampard will have earned and be paid in compensation infinitely more than he would have accumulated at Derby - especially as Derby haven't been playing the staff!!

Derby are a mess now off the field, and managing Chelsea and getting sacked will probably make him over £10m.

Obviously he'd rather have done well, but was an opportunity to take.

Money is not the motivation for Frank or Wayne Rooney after having 20 year careers. but obviously Frank won't have to sign on down the Job centre and the extra multi millions will buy another house somewhere in the sun.

Lampard will be gutted that his many talented young players weren't given longer to Gel. He saw Stevie G doing well at Rangers (piss poor standard) and thought the time was right to take on the Chelsea job as he was a legend at the Bridge.

The odious ex Russian doll salesman owner doesn't do emotional ties. He just looks at the points accumulated.

It wasn't long ago that Man united fans and ex players were saying Ollie and Woodward should leave United when they were nearer to the bottom of the table.

I can't hear the Cornwall or Surrey branch of the United fan club saying that now.

I suspect that he looks at the £220m spent from July to September with the minimal expectation that they will qualify for the Champions League. The form of Werner and Havertz, being two of those major signings, hasn't helped the situation although giving them enough game time along with Abraham, Giroud, Pulisic, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech, Gilmour, Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic was always going to be a challenge.

Which makes the 4 year deal just bizarre and pointless.

It works though. No side in English football have won more trophies than Chelsea since he took over.

Because of the vast sums he threw at it. After Man City did the same they overtook them fairly quickly.

    I wasn't claiming he'd done it on a shoestring!

Not many sides are successful in the modern era for any period of time without throwing money at it.

Chelsea want Tuchel that bad, he wants a 4 year deal, so they've given it to him to get him.

4.5 year deal for Tuchel, he's signing a contract to summer 2025.

Still feel Lampard deserved a bit more time though. They went on a 17 game unbeaten run from September to mid-December. Since then they've lost 5 out of 8 in the league, but their next 2 games are at home and they've got Sheff Utd and Newcastle soon after that, so although they're struggling he could've easily turned it around. Also still in the CL and have Barnsley away in the FA Cup 5th round.

He's basically been sacked because of an 8 game bad spell. Bowyer would've had no chance if Abramovich was our owner.

    He's been sacked because they're 9th after spending £200m+

He's been sacked because he has the lowest win percentage over Roman's entire ownership.

Hardly just 8 games. Anyone could have seen his spell at Derby and known that he was bang average tactically. Out of his depth and it showed in every big game.

I don't think it would have taken a 4.5 year deal though. Can't imagine an out of work manager like Tuchel would have rejected a lucrativ 2.5 year one. Could be wrong.

I hate Chelsea more than any other club.
It goes back to their shit fans when they rearranged the valley.

Have no problem with Frank Lampard, though he was naive if he thought the talented youngsters including Werner, Havertz, Pulistic etc were a shoe in for the top 4 this season.

Mourino may not have rated Kevin De Bruyne(he thought the ginger one was a poor trainer) or Salah at Chelsea but the main reason was he didn't care how good they would be in 3 or 4 years time. Jose wouldn't be there then so he only cared about the present moment. Why would Mourino spend a couple of years building a team, then get sacked and someone else gets the credit. That isn't how his career has moved along.

I really hate Chelsea and so many of their fans.

I know why he's been sacked, but that doesn't mean they couldn't turn it round.

Was he bang average and out of his depth last season, or when they went 17 games unbeaten this season, or when they won 4-0 away to Sevilla to win their CL group?

United stuck by Solskjaer earlier in the season and now look at them? If Abramovich was City owner he's probably have sacked Guardiola a couple of months ago when they were sitting in the bottom half at the end of November.

    Yes.

Chelsea have been good at beating the bad teams. Haven't won a single big game this season. That includes Aston Villa, Southampton and Arsenal.
