Bizarre cover versions that work

If we're straying into the World of Scandi folk, I'll start you off easily with this ... an incredible version of Leonard Cohen's 'Famous Blue Raincoat' by the wonderful Eivør.

She tends to do much more folky/techno stuff ... with the voice of an angel. Think of a Faroese Kate Bush.
And, if Finnish is your thing, check out Värttinä.
Here's a taste:

I know the bass player, Hannu, and was in Helsinki when the band recorded Miero in 2006. They make quite a good noise.

As nothing could possibly try and succeed to get any where near the beauty of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Blue’ I quite like this Cat Power cover as it isn’t trying to mimic but just using the beautiful pattern of lyrics to create something new. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jwzcBHDIqKE2

Ex United and Ireland Paul McGrath's cover of the Connell's 74-75 on Spotify is pretty decent. On spotify0

Eivor version enjoyable for sure but nowhere near as good as Leonard (not that you're claiming it was :-) ) Like her voice. An Arianda Grande cover that sounds amazing. Rozzi Crane is truly an astonishing vocalist....1 -
Is that the same bloke on keyboards from earlier in the thread that needs a smack in the mush?0

As a fan of the show, the song is all about the emotion of Fantine's situation. Susan Boyle's version lacks even a fraction of this emotion. The Crazy Frog couldn't do a worse version.Off_it said:
That version is absolutely truly bloody awful. There is absolutely no emotion in it.BassAddick said:
This is right up there in the "How to ruin a truly classic song by covering it with a (usually female) insipid vocal that adds absolutely nothing to the song" stakes. The fact it's such a great song is the only reason for anyone to listen to it, so even Susan Fucking Boil can't completely ruin it. Although she gives it a bloody good go.
As you can tell, I'm on the fence with this one.0 -

Was Fantine in the Rolling Stones then? Didn't know that ...MuttleyCAFC said:

Think I might have posted this at the beginning of the thread, but can't remember (video has been removed). Anyway, this really works, imo

Technically this isn't a cover because Albert Hammond co wrote ' One Moment In Time' .
It is completely different to the famous Whitney Houston version and I prefer it .
