Good luck to Macauley Bonne. Really surprised that someone came in for him and that we received such a large fee. I don't think he was a great player, but I thought he did really well to get the most out of his very limited talent. A very "Charlton" player.
I hope this is a portent for the next few seasons of Gallen-Bowyer business. Find an unpolished diamond, get him for a low fee, get the most out of him for a short period of time, sell him on at a big profit, invest in someone better.
Players like Macauley Bonne won't ever play for Charlton in the Premier League. But business like this will be vital to get us there sooner.
Good luck to him. Didn’t do bad last season considering circumstances. Played a lot more than I think everyone expected and scored a reasonable return. If we paid £200k and have reportedly sold him for 10x that, then to me it’s a great decision.
I hope it's a good move for him. Don't think he did any wrong at Charlton, just didn't have what it takes at this moment in his career to be a lead striker. Hopefully he'll be playing with more experienced partners at QPR and they'll get the best out of him.
More importantly, I hope it's a good move for us. We need someone who's going to be more of a goal threat. If the £2m is invested wisely, we can do pretty well out of it.
I do think given the number of quality midfielders we have that a big lump that can put himself about a bit and knows where the goal is could benefit us. Who is that player though? I hate to say it, but somebody like Taylor!
Yes it sounds but if he starts scoring loads of goals at QPR then maybe not. I feel we should have given him a little more time But maybe he did not want to play in league 1? It would funny if both him and Taylor ended up a total flops in the Championship 😂😂😂👍👍
I wouldn’t say Bonne was naff, he came from non league on the cheap and scored more a lot more goals than most Charlton strikers have in the last few years. Good luck to him!
Decent business. He certainly was a project player that had to step in when Taylor got crocked then threw hit toys out of the pram and did well all things considered. 11 goals in the Champ for a relegated team is not to be sniffed at and that's why he's gone for £2mil.
There's a lot of talent in there but just as much frustration. He missed some absolute sitters in the last few games of last season (many of which would've kept us up if he'd taken them) and that will likely stick in a lot of fans memories. For where we are at the moment, we need a striker we can rely on to click with Bowyer's style and to finish the chances that come his way. From the first few games, there were clear signs that that wasn't really going to happen.
What I will say is this...Macauley stepped up to the plate and got stuck in when others (i.e. Taylor) didn't/wouldn't. For that I thank him and I think it's probably best if we both move on.

2 Mil is brilliant business.
He actually said his head was turned!!! haha
Pretty sure we will replace him. Getting him for 200k and selling for 2 mill is pretty good business.

Doesn't bode well for them if he does well and a bigger club come for him then

Hope he's not knackered.
Personally hope he does well and it's not surprising that his head was turned. Story has been taken down from QPR site... 404 error.
He scored one goal in 3 matches in the championship in a team that got relegated.
Thank Fuck, the Ipswich game is off!
Steve Gallen over to you.
Bet his agent is happier than he is.
