    THE best before Mendonca's arrival i m o ..  underrated manager, too strict, the players didn't like it (so the story went) .. he'd be managing a Prem club today if he was about 50 years younger lol

    He made one catastrophic error at the end of the “nearly” season of 68/69 when he elected to sell Matt Tees to Luton Town and replace him with Ray Crawford (who was only 3 Years younger than Eddie). He said so himself and regretted that decision as he struggled with a succession of poor recruits in our forward line (Riddick/Endean/Plumb) and we never recovered culminating in our relegation in 1972 under Theo after a couple of seasons where we survived by the skin of our teeth.
    Eddie showed in the States that he was eventually a wonderful and successful manager, but for us alas he could never recover from that one poor decision.
