Is Livingstone (note not Lawrence) our potential T20 finisher?
As I've said numerous times previously, I would prefer Root to be batting at 3 and Buttler further down the order. Unfortunately, I don't think the selectors are going to do either as they seem to want Buttler to open and Stokes to bat at 3 so could we see this:
Buttler (RH) Roy (RH) Stokes (LH) Bairstow (RH) Morgan (LH) Livingstone (RH) Moeen/S. Curran (LH)
Of course Livingstone could also give you the 2nd/3rd spinning option too
Great shame. Sam Curran batted superbly although I do wonder if, on that wicket, he really needed to protect Wood, who is no mug with the bat, to the extent that he did.
Massive choke at the end unfortunately. 15 runs from last three overs isn’t good enough after you’ve put yourself in a position to win. Turning down runs to keep strike isn’t smart cricket in that position.
Brilliant innings from Curran but as above he was winding me up turning down simple singles and even then next ball half looking (obviously it’s automatic ) for a tough one before realising. Whatever we lost , made a fist of it but being a completely harsh git maybe a bit more faith in Wood may have got the same result .... or maybe not .
Ashley Giles has rightly said that England can't stand in the way of players if they want to play in the IPL but "play" might not be the right word. Take the Sunrisers Hyderbad for example. With Jason Roy now enlisted to replace Mitchell Marsh, these are their 8 overseas players:
David Warner Jason Roy Jonny Bairstow Kane Williamson Jason Holder Mohammad Nabi Rashid Khan Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman
Now Warner is captain so unless he has a run of bad form he will virtually be a fixture. Rashid Khan will be too. So that leaves 2 places for the other 6 players. In a lot of games, one from the three other overseas bowlers will be picked so that leaves one place for Williamson, Bairstow and Roy.
On another note, Josh de Caires, Michael Atherton's son (though no one is meant to know that hence Josh using his mother's maiden name) hit a century against a decent Yorkshire bowling attack today for Leeds/Bradford Universities. A chip off the old block.

Agreed and they've payed more money for Bairstow and Williamson than Roy so I can't see the purpose for him going there.
I understand that there are still some murmurs about his suitability for Indian conditions ahead of the world T20. But I'm sure he'd be better served playing 8 County champ games rather than having the odd net in india.

Money talks and Roy's got no longevity in red ball. A central England white ball contract plus the Hundred, BBL, IPL etc etc will do the trick for him.

Great series for him so far.
