I’m sure we had a keeper called Jim O’Donnell on loan from Man Utd around 1988 that never played a game.
If we did, he didn't play for them or any other English league team either. Of the eleven O'Donnells playing league football between 1946 and 1998, none played in goal and none were called Jim. There was a James O'Donnell who played for Oldham, but that was in the 50s.

We did get a keeper on loan from Man U in the late 80’s or early 90’s. I don’t think @ricky_otto has got the name right but it’s close enough that I didn’t realise it was wrong until your post.
I think it started with Mc.....Mcdonough?
edit, according to google the goal keeper was .....Ben Amos!

McDonagh never played for United. The only other Keeper who played for both clubs was Paul Rachupka.

I might well be imagining it. I’m sure it was around the time we won the soccer sixes. I’ll have a look in one of the programmes around that time.
**Edit***in this picture, 4th from the left in the back row.
I saw Jim McDonagh a few times for the reserves when they played in the afternoon at Welling. He wasn’t that tall for a keeper but pretty decent and very brave, still coaching at the age of 68 at Mansfield according to that Wiki article.
We got a keeper on loan from Fulham about 10 years ago on a Thursday I think, and he didn’t get in the team on Saturday so Fulham recalled him the following week. Must be something of a short service record.
I remember Pardew making a lot of noise about the purchase of Martin Christensen as a youngster full of promise, I don't think he ever actually played for us and now retired and working as a youth coach.

Wasn’t there a big fee to paid when he did make a first team appearance?

Don't know why Stephen Hughes popped into my head this morning but got me thinking of others that never played. There must be loads. David Tuttle Luke Daniels Chris Maxwell Emeka Ifejiagwa Juan Cobian Paul Rachubka
Others?
I don’t remember us signing Daniels. Who is ifejiagwa

look at his goal scoring record! It’s nearly as good as bogles’s!

Weird bump but saw a familiar name on LinkedIn and it turned out to be him!
signed from Sherif Tiraspol- very left field, and disappeared just as quickly
I don't remember him ever putting in an appearance.
His penalty miss is unfortunately quite memorable for me.
Seriously though didn't he turn up at Sparrows Lane in some really flashy motor when most of the players had bangers with 100k miles on the clock?
