Getting stoned in 2021

In April 2020 I weighed in at 17st 10lb and was horrified - it was the heaviest I had ever been.  (I'm 6ft and 60 yrs old). That fluctuated and I tried the 16hrs a day fasting diet (felt terrible in the morning with low blood sugar levels), the fasting completely for 2 days ( i put weight on, because I binged as soon as I could eat again) and finally in August I joined a free local NHS health promotion web service / facebook page with weekly weigh in.  I'm now down to 15st 7 and losing around 1 - 2 lbs per week every week.  I'm basically half way to my target of 4 stone 8lb weight loss and target weight is 13st 2lb.  The things I've changed are making sure I have a lunch to take into work, cutting out the excuse to have a pork pie or pasty, eating mostly chicken in place of red meat (which in my case meant casseroles, sausages, bacon), no more packets of biscuits in one go, I don't eat bread or potatoes every day (but i still have toast for breakfast at the weekend and pizza and curry and have fish and chips every couple of weeks), and consciously started controlling my portion sizes and my appetite has decreased.  On a curry night I could just keep eating til it was all gone, now one plate and I'm done.  I have beer at weekends and wine and generally don't feel like I am denying myself very much.  I see no reason why I can't keep doing this forever as it isn't really a diet.  Other than not letting myself have beer on a week night unless I really need it!

Meant to mention in my post that I have been doing the 16/8 fast as part of my weight loss. I get it's not for everyone but it's been great for me, basically no calories between 8:30pm and 12:30pm. Took me a couple of weeks adjusting but my body has adopted it now and can easily make it through to lunchtime (and sometimes longer) on nothing more than black coffee and water. There's a lot of pseudo science out there about how it works that I don't pay any attention to, for me it is just a way of limiting calorie intake which is the number one priority when trying to lose weight.
  • Last year I lost a Sharon from New Year’s Day to lockdown, then put on 8 lb whilst off work for 9 weeks plus another 4lb at Christmas so my starting weight is 2lb lower than last year at 13st 8lb.

I ran over 1600 miles last year so a 2lb loss doesn’t seem good, but strava doesn’t show beers consumed!

Looking to lose a stone by April ish and a bit more by October just in case the London marathon actually happens

Absolutely, just wasn't realistically sustainable for me.  My eating patterns weren't healthy and I didn't want to lose weight then put it all back on so it was more of an adjustment of those patterns and also a recognition that a lot of my eating was about stress and reward.  The low blood sugar thing just seemed not very self caring, feeling ill every morning but that's me - I have a couple of colleagues who do the 16:8 and they don't get that.  I tend to always be all or nothing - eat too much, drink too much or starve and abstain and what I really needed to change was that - to learn to be a bit more balanced.
  • The Covid diet’s worked for me. Lost half a stone in the last week or so. Don’t recommend it long term though...

I had stagnated around the above until last week. Suddenly everything feels easy from a dietary choice point of view. I have found it easier to make sure my meals have the right macro & micro nutrient balances and track calories over the past week.

As a result, the body fat is definitely coming off. Over a percent in a week feels like a good step.

    Weight 85kg
    Body Fat 17.9%
    Water 56.5%
    Muscle Mass 67kg
    Visceral Fat 5
Metabolic Age 27 (this is good news)

    How are others getting on?

  • I ironically have done the reverse and gained a stone, not lost it. Which probably means I now need to lose two stone!

Until last week I found it very difficult to be consistent from a diet perspective, I am not sure what changed. Something mentally has obviously clicked into place.

You know you can do it all, you have done really well before and hopefully the news that the country is going to start to re-open can be a motivating factor to kickstart you.

Body fat is going down (well so the scales tell me ) so thats good, lost 5 pounds of weight since New Years Eve, set a goal to lose 14 pound by the end of the year, 9 pounds left to go before the end of the year.
  • Down to 88kg this week, so about 3kg lost since Christmas (I'd gone up a kilo between Christmas and New Year so it's 4kg down on the year). Started to think about end goals at this point and what weight I'd be happy with maintaining, for my height 84kg is in the healthy BMI range, I know it's a slightly flawed measurement but seems like as good a range as any to aim for at this point.

    Morning fatso😃
  • I have also put a stone on and really need to lose about 2 stone.
The gym not being open is a major problem for me as I usually go about 4 times a week.
I got another dog back in November and am out walking every day but walking alone does not have the same effect as a good gym work out.
  • a bit stuck at the weight I've been at since November (still a stone and half less then it was at the start of lockdown V1). The running has been a bit hit and miss lately, so going to get back out and into the habit again, starting this evening.

Literally one bad day of food on Tuesday night...
    86kg yesterday

    85kg again today.

This is why not to weigh in too regularly. (I only use the body composition setting once a week)
  • Not sure what all this exercise and weight loss has to do with getting stoned ? Anyone got any vera’s ?
  • Well 'Getting Kilowered' does have a nicer ring to it....
  • No chocolate or alcohol for over two weeks, gently reintroducing exercise.

    weight loss - zero

    load of shite
Are you actually creating a calorie deficit? Just not eating chocolate or not drinking booze will have no effect if you're replacing those calories with other foods/beverages.
