With the squad we have then Rochdale 2 Chsrlton 0. I have not seen enough of the two new boys and it is only two new players. That does not make up for the fact that most of the squad is just bulk standard league 1 players . To many people over estimate the quality of the squad.

I disagree about the quality of the squad. In fact I'd go so far as to say that, if Coleman had our players and Bowyer theirs we would have lost about 12-0 on Friday. I am not one of those calling for Bowyers head, but I would feel much more comforted and reassured if I could see some kind of obvious pattern or plan in Bowyers thinking. I can accept losing games to worldies, or better teams, or even the odd mistake, if it is just a blip in a clear upwardly mobile shift in performance. It feels like Bowyer has got so caught up in trying to cover every base in nullifying the opposition that he has lost sight of making his own team a cohesive, consistent unit. What I would concede is that this squad doesn't have the quality of the 2018/19 promotion squad.
It's difficult to have much confidence in Charlton, given our very poor form over the last 10 games and the lamentable performances in the last 2. With 6 or 7 out injured and Pratley suspended, Bowyer's selection options are limited and I'm guessing it will, of necessity, be largely be the same team as on Friday. I would like to see Matthews back in the side, whether as a wing back in a 5 or as a straight swap for Gunter.
Rochdale have had a predictably difficult season as, in addition to losing Henderson, Callum Camps left for Fleetwood in the summer, where he already has 8 league goals to his credit from midfield. They've been very inconsistent but winning 4-0 and 5-0 away from home shows that they can do it on their day and our defence at present is as porous as any in this division. A mate of mine is a Dale supporter and he says their biggest Achilles heel at present is the absence of a left back, so hopefully that is an area we can overload and exploit. If Done was playing there on Saturday, he is certainly a forward not a defender.
We desperately need a decent performance, failing which, I fear that we will start drifting down into mid table obscurity. There is a very long way to go but the team has unquestionably regressed and the current direction of travel is less than encouraging.
Great preview as always @Sage... Nice to be able to take a break for a game!!
Is the sort of team I'd go for - With such a shakey defence Id go with five at the back, not sure if I'd have them as wing-backs though
Only time I have to put the preview together.
I think we need to shore up at the back so 5 could be needed. How would you have them as a 5?
Exactly the same as how you've lined them up - With how Morgan was so ineffective yesterday I'd swap him for Gilbey
I had gone for the below in another thread but didnt think of Washington so would have him start ahead of Smyth
Amos Matthews . Gunter . Oshilaja . Pearce . Maatsen Forster-Caskey . Gilbey Miller Washington . Aneke
Only trouble (that I'm already aware of) is if you even go with that sort of formation where the wing-backs hold back as full-backs then you're already inviting a lot of space in front of them to the opposition - So think yours is better.
Other factor which isnt great though is the fact that regardless of who you pick between Gilbey / Morgan you're running the risk that both can go missing in games so unfortunately in the sense of protecting the defence Bowyer is almost picking the lesser of two evils
Does it not dawn on either of you preview guys to pick williams for one of the midfield roles? centre mid is his position and is the one you are saying we have no options in - as bad as bowyer - no wonder you're backing him

I cant talk for @Sage but my line-ups NEVER state what Id go with... Its a prediction so I'm trying to guess what Bowyer is going to select - Seeing that he's not picking Williams and wasnt impressed on Friday I dont see him changing that anytime soon
Seeing I was one of the few to predict Matthews at Left-Back against Hull Id say I'm not bad that doing guessing what he'll do
I even put in a disclaimer into my last Preview stating that, something even Muttley had to need to point out to you in that thread

what do u think of my team above sage / FA ? genuine question
that team i have picked above would beat rochdale and i know nothing about rochdale - don'rt need to - that team would create enough chances that we could afford the obligatory mistake from pearce and oshalaja and the occassional caught on the ball from williams and morgan - its a proper team line up with dangerous players - no blunt instruments like jfc, washington and gilby

Washington a blunt instrument as second top scorer lol
He creates chances and his work rate is phenomenal.

Agreed
What I'm finding most dispiriting is that with our recent defeats or draws with lesser sides, it's not as we were clearly the better team and only failed to win due to bad luck, poor finishing, an inspired keeper etc.
Or that we were the "footballing" side, and the opponents were all "dirty northern bastard" type sides, physically intimidating us, as that's not been the case either. Indeed it would be easier to take losing to Accrington if we had lost playing an attractive passing game, using our flair players from the start.
smyth on for schwarz if knackered at half time - get on the front foot for christ sake
i don't expect this, i expect another clueless line up and a defeat
I assume Pearce and Oshi position is a mistake. I would not put a young player making his second outing on the wrong wing for him, I think Gunter is better than Mathews, Williams is poor. I think our midfield would be taken apart.
Great preview as always @Sage... Nice to be able to take a break for a game!!

i don't read the words, its too depressing
Try not to read yours either. Too much sniping at others or too much nonsense.
As @ForeverAddickted said, the teams are only ever what I would expect Bowyer to do, just like what he does in his own previews. You would know that if you ever bothered to read them.
You would also never have Williams as a two in midfield, especially as the midfielders we have available offer next to no protection to the defence as it is. In a 3 yes, as I have mentioned I’d have him in a 3 man midfield.
So what do I think of your team? Attacking personnel but with no real shape or organisation and if you think our midfield is overrun now, I dread to imagine what that personnel would offer in terms of any kind of stability.
I have a feeling bowyer could make a few changes here after a few of his comments other night. For me what seemed a position we had too many players all of a sudden we don’t have any or any real ball winners and Cullen, bielek types.
Formation I don’t know if he will go 5-3-2 or 4-3-3 I guess Schwartz may not be up for start. I see the team being like foreveraddickted stated. personally if Schwartz fit enough I would like below but never see it happening
Maynard brewer purrington matthews gilbey washington smyth bogle
it will be a very interesting team selection and I can see possibly a few changes as said will be drop Morgan gilbey etc after poor games but limited options and Maartsen in midfield something Very defensive on paper would not surprise me with bowyers mind anything is possible only Amos I know I got right
That 1st sentence from you FULLERpromise made me laugh, think that’s a given no matter what the comments were....😣
need to get points on the board anyway we can,id settle for a point right now, because another defeat & another blame game ain’t gonna be pretty in the fallout...
il go 2-2
(but then pray in hope we sneak it at the death 3-2)
There are no really good or bad teams in L1 from what I've seen. If we can't improve defensively we'll struggle as the way we're set up it's unlikely we'll score many.
I think we underestimate how much better our previous squad was in L1 - nobody is really standing out in the present one.

I think this is the most disjointed team we've had in a few years but i think we will get the result on Tuesday . But only just
2-1
