Then consider the arse backwards booking that made this match in the first place.
  • The OG bloodline

  • WWE have made a 3+ hour 2 part bloodline video. Best angle since Austin v McMahon.

    Superb.

Not enough credit is given to how well AEW did in that post pandemic run with Punk’s return. With so much anticipation for it built over 7 years, it could have so easily been an anti-climax.

I don’t think that story with MJF is done either. Wouldn’t surprise me if Punk goes straight back into the title scene.

Can see them doing a reverse Money In The Bank 2011 angle, where MJF is planning to take the title away from AEW and has to face Punk in Chicago.

I have watched that, I thought it was brilliant.  The bloodline reminds me of the Hogan Andre/mega bucks mega powers/mega powers exploed style of story telling.  That's a good thing by the way.

I think the problems with Punk were more Punk himself than how AEW used him. Although after the Darby fued they had him come to the ring to his entrance music before heading down to do commentary. For 8 years his name was chanted in Chicago and a year after his return he received a mix reaction there (maybe due to how incredible MJF is). What a return though. Definitely in the top pops ever discussion. Interesting how a lot of the interviews above are semi shoot saying they don't want him there.

After Punk's title win MJF revealed himself as the joker. The fued was meant to continue but Punk had to Punk and the media scrum is what he will be remembered for at AEW unless something happens during his new run. 🤞🏻

The thing is Punk got injured in the match so how long would he have been out if it wasn't for the media scrum?

I'm guessing it could continue as a secondary story. Punk relinquishes the strap,MJF wins it as occurred. Punk commentates during his injury and MJF antoganises him until he's back, punk just takes it, maybe storms off.. Punk later annouces he's cleared and MJF chicken shit heels out of facing him now he can defend himself. This all occurs in the background whilst MJF defends the belt in the primary story.

I was hoping for ZSJ and totally remove Daneilson from the mudshow combat BS.

    Was Mudshow not a clue?!

Cassidy will embarrassingly get a monster reaction at Wembley.

I'll use that match for a trip to the concession stand.

There will be quite a few matches like that.

Usually i'll fast forward the bucks, but seeing them do their stunt show live could be quite the spectacle.

Shitstain is my favourite. Bischoff (who is doing a London show in September) calls Meltzer the Tapeworm which is very good!

I can't wait for the exploding Canadian off the arch for a 2 count.
  • Jim Cornette’s analysis has become very sterile.

Ironic for someone who loves to point fingers when it comes to “laaaazy booking”, because he’s unwilling to have any nuance in his reviews whatsoever.

90% of a show is absolutely terrible, and he’ll only give praise when something is 10/10 perfect. There’s rarely any middle ground.

Unfortunately, that does seem to be the way with wrestling fans nowadays though. Criticise absolutely everything based on the most minute of details, show little praise towards it but yet still tune in each week to watch it.

I find his podcasts boring. 4 hours of him and Brian watching TV shows that they don't like. However, he's one of the most quick witted people in wrestling and can be hilarious in small doses, e.g. clips from YouTube.

Criticising things is the internet in a nutshell and is probably sticks out more in wrestling due to it's high dork fanbase. WWE released DVDs slating WCW and the Ultimate Warrior. It probably wasn't until just after the network came out that they admitted that WCW did some great stuff. They admitted Bash At The Beach '98 with Rodman and Karl Malone was actually really good on a show about celebrities in wrestling after years of making fun of it. They're spot on with Jay Leno!

His wit and humour are probably the only things that had me listening for a while. No doubt that he is absolutely hilarious when he’s got a bee in his bonnet about something.

It’s just frustrating that he seemingly actively chooses to lean towards the negative every time. Many other podcasts out there are more than capable of applying nuance in discussing what is great about AEW, and what is not so great.

Also, is there any particular reason his hatred is so heavily leveraged towards Kenny Omega? Is there some sort of personal thing there?

I get that Omega isn’t the sort of wrestler that would be on a Cornette dream card for obvious reasons, but there are far bigger offenders of the over the top style that he hates.

Wrestling the invisible man and little children is the underlying reason.
  • Yeah, that’ll do it I guess.
