Currently enjoying the Rays early demolition of the Yankees. 7-1 in the top of the third inning and the home crowd are not best pleased..!
Sox need to capitalise at the Nats tonight. Al Wildcard getting towards the possibility of a 4 way tie
Redsox beat the Nats to draw level with the Yanks (91-70). Both these teams now guaranteed at least a playoff to get in the wildcard. Mariners (89-71) play their game in hand in a couple of hours and need to win to be in with a chance.
It would then, on Sunday afternoon, need wins for Mariners and Blue Jays (90-71) coupled with losses for the Redsox and the Yanks to give us a four way tie for the two wildcard slots!
Oh and the NL West still isn’t settled with the Dodgers one game back on the Giants… There would be another tie breaking game there if the Giants were to lose to the Padres and the Dodgers win at home to the Brewers.

And whoever comes second will become the ‘winningest’ team ever to not win their division

As a Dodger fan (begrudging !) congrats to the Giants on winning the NL West in what has been a remarkable battle between the two teams. We now face a very difficult one off Wild Card game against the in form Cards although we at least have home advantage. We are the reigning champs however and won't give it up without a fight.
Yankee fans are seriously chucking their toys out of the pram. Started yesterday with an unbelievably whingy and one eyed blog post complaining about Raffy Devers pointing out that the Red Sox were written off pre and mid season: https://yanksgoyard.com/2021/10/04/yankees-rafael-devers-lame-postgame-red-sox-al-wild-card-game/ He was right. Redsox were expected to rebuild this year. Yanks were expected to win. Deal with it.
Now they’ve lost, they’re wildly chucking blame around like a chimp in a zoo flinging it’s shit at the onlookers. Most of the blame is aimed at Aaron Boone and his coaching team, but there doesn’t seem to be any real criticism of the players themselves, who frankly, with the staff and funding they have, should have strolled off into the sunset with the AL East safely secured.
Even when they do criticise players, it’s spun to be a criticism of Boone. One blogger blaming him for “Eovaldi performing like Cole and Cole performing like Porcello”. (Which, incidentally, is a ridiculously bitter and snidey dig at an opposition player and former opposition player, especially considering the current player just kicked their arse!😂[ - Eovaldi is an ex Yankee who pitched for the win last night, Cole is the golden boy of pitching who the Yanks picked up at the beginning of the season for an absolute fortune ($324million) and hung their hopes on him. He pitched for the loss - Porcello is a former Redsox pitcher who had a decent career. Some good and some bad seasons, but nothing bad enough to deserve disrespect]
Of course, no credit is given to Boone for picking up Anthony Rizzo, one of my favourite players until he joined those pinstriped ponces. Rizzo was a big factor in their push for the postseason. But Boone only gets blamed for the failures, never praised for the successes.
The Yanks and Yankee fans put me in mind of Arsenal. Powerhouses two decades ago, a hugely successful history, no real recent successes to speak of and an attitude of entitlement, blame and disrespect towards others. Every time they push for the postseason and fail I get a little bit of joy knowing they’ve disadvantaged themselves in the future.
Hopefully Rizzo will return to the Cubs or find a new home elsewhere so I can start liking him again and leave the Damn Yankees with nothing to show for their punt.
If you hadn’t noticed, I don’t like the Yankees very much. 😎
When will they just lie down and step back like every other team has to and rebuild. They have spent well over and above what they should do and have nothing to show for it. Any other team in their position at the deadline would have been sellers - yet there they were thowing their weight around like they were Billy Fucking Big Bollocks and where did it get them? Utterly nowhere.
Now I wanna see Rizzo off (that was a short term rental waste of money for them), Judge? Well they cant afford to give him a bumper deal on that payroll with the luxury tax threshold in plain sight. Cole? Good pitcher on his day but too much money in one part of the roster. Gallo? More swings and misses than a fight at the Millers Arms. Stanton is a tonne on the payroll hitting one run homers cos nobody else can get on base.
Battle of two of the best veteran pitchers in the game tonight. Wainwright and Scherzer match up both with nigh on identical career ERA's in the low 3's. Was gonna say lets see a pitching masterclass but being post season baseball, lets wait for the 10-8 result.

Blue Jays lead the Orioles 12-2. Red Sox down 5-2 against the Nationals. Yankees & Rays still scoreless in the eighth inning.
Blue Jays sweating on the Red Sox result… currently 5-5.
Closing has been their problem all year - gonna have to do it one more time to host the Wankees in the wild card.

Always good to hear that phrase.

Yanks splash the cash and still doesn’t work out - their farm system will be non existent in a few years. Shame!

Fucking hilarious.
Er no - its a single off the monster. "He's at first base - what did I do wrong, what did I see"
