Dear old Derek......what a wonderful ambassador for the club he has been and what a wonderful life he had. A real old school gentleman of the first order. Would like to see a permanent tribute to him in some way or another at The Valley.
One of the greatest players to step out at the Valley Boyhood hero for many of the veteran Lifers on here. Seasonal tussles with Trevor Ford were part of the football calender. RIP
Very sad news, he and my Dad knew each other well from school days at Dartford Grammar School and both played for Borough Juniors.
We often saw Derek in the hospitality suites and I last saw him at my Dad's funeral 4 years ago. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and send my sincere condolences to Derek's family.
Very sad day. I got to know Derek very well during the eleven years I worked for Kent County Cricket Club. He would come into my office most weeks and we would chat mainly about CAFC. He had so many stories about his time playing for the Addicks and for Kent, and never had anything bad to say about all those he played with. The word legend is far too over used in this day and age, but today we have lost someone who truly was a legend and a real gentle man. My condolences to Judy and the Ufton family. Rest in Peace Derek.

Both clubs benefited by way of his efforts.

Sleep tight, Derek.
I knew his name from cricket before I first saw Charlton (by which time he had retired from playing).
RIP to a great all-round sportsman.
